Ok. Faction warfare is the primary EVE/DUST link right now.
Unfortunately it's completely random and very hard to coordinate With capsuleers.
So for Faction Warfare Instead of doing short matched like pubs, make each district battle static. The districts open at the beginning of the day according to which systems EVEside Faction warfare was most active in.
Let the battles run constant and when a person wants to leave they can queue the EoM screen, collect theirbrewards and head out. When one drops out the district opens on the Faction War menu with the number of slots open. Players may attempt to queue directly into a known match or choose random placement in an active warzone.
Objective: Capture and Hold. The MCCs aren't being destroyed, both empires at war have effectively unlimited resources. No clone counts, just an unending battle to actively control the district.
When a team holds more than 50% of the planetary defense nodes, the district flips to that faction. Districts with 50/50 control are listed "contested" and these designations color the results.
Holding one hack point for an hour is approximately worth a "win" in the loyalty ranks, with LP/standing increases added per minute if there is a hack point controlled by the friendly faction.
CONCORD has allowed a bounty placed by the empires upon enemy soldiers, offering a small amount of ISK for each clone terminated or vehicle destroyed.
Overall effect? The more hack points you control the faster you earn LP/Standings.
EVE side benefit: Local faction militia andparticipating mercs receive additional LP per district controlled during the day, calculated at downtime. Militia players conducting planetary interaction will gain bonuses to output for each district in system under friendly control. Manufacturing jobs in the system can be accelerated for militia members in that system according to how many districts are controlled.
Militias who do not control districts will simply receive no additional benefit over normal activity. The idea is to reward them for supporting planetary control, not penalizing their normal activities.
Each district held should, rather than contributing a flat rate to local sov, provide a bonus to the allied faction to "flip" the system. So instead of the single planet in a system being 40% control, it can be +40% to flipping/consolidating.
Faction warfare has the potential to be the main veteran activity center. Just needs to be able to coordinate and pay well.

"Let the battles run constant and when a person wants to leave they can queue the EoM screen, collect theirbrewards and head out." +1 This would also allow for players to do 'random stuff' on uncontested districts, would be really neat.
"The more hack points you control the faster you earn LP/Standings." +1 This should be adjusted by the 'level of activity' on the district. In no way should sitting around in a 16v0 match give anyone a reward. If 'hacked control points' added a modifier to the LP/Standing you get from killing enemies it could work.
"Faction warfare has the potential to be the main veteran activity center. Just needs to be able to coordinate and pay well." +1 If it would be possible to see which server hosted which district that would be awesome. Just add a tag [AM / AS / EU] on the district so that players can avoid queueing into a lag fests, and make Scotty take that into account as well.
...
EVE side LP gain per OB would have to be adjusted as the farming possibilities of simply sitting on a district would quickly become obscene. Perhaps making them LP per ISK destroyed instead? |

Some ideas from other games that I have seen that have a "constant battle" premise like this one:
Different controllable objectives form a type of web with each other, the more interconnecting objectives you hold, the more resources you build up over time. These resources are used to build up defenses or acquire goodies
Each controllable objective is worth a certain point value.
The game has a 15 minute timer counting down, when it reaches 0:00, all controllable objectives for each faction are tallied up and added to their respective scores, and the timer resets. This basically creates moments of intense action as people furiously try to defend a point till 0:00 or lone wolves try to snag undefended objectives at the last second. On the contrary, holding more ground permanently rewards with a lot more resources then guerrilla tactics, because resources are gathered over time, per second, based on the network of interconnecting objectives.
What the resources could do in Dust? Perhaps free Factional pre-fits are dolled out to players for immediate use in match, or vehicles, war barges strikes, or MCC tricks, something or anything that affects the live battle right there, and is only usable in that fight. Other possibilities could be something that affects the factional struggle as a whole.

Yeah, faction warfare has been pretty much declared as not not being fixed until he gets PC worked out.
And we all know you cant fix PC while there are obvious game flaws going on.
As long as 4/5 (80%) of infantry AV weapons are Anti Armor based you're never going to achieve vehicle balance CCP

I like Breakin Stuff's idea. I've tried numerous times just to get into a Factional fight. After 5minutes of waiting i find it pointless and, drop into a reg match. I'd like to start earning LP, and if i'm not a proto vet slayer; I CAN hold installations and Hack points.
Pew, Pew, Blam! See i caught them all :)

Since Matari pilots are hardly ever available due to the dominance of Amarr pilots currently, I would love to see the Orbital Artillery come to fruition. Might encourage a few more pilots to brave the shark infested waters if they knew they could actually get ground support. Especially with the Minmatar foot soldiers doing their thing.

You had my same idea for makong FW a constant, never ending battle. But you detailed the it much better than I could ever had. Tho my idea had something a little different in terms of Theater Of War.
In the distant future, when (if) Legion comes out or Dust gets a PS4 port, Public Contracts should stay as they are right now. Why? Because CCP said long ago that Publiv Contracts was a more casual place made for people that don't feel like dwealing to deep into the New Eden Universe, or just simply enjoy one battle or 2 with some friends and go leave to do some thing else. Same battlegrounds, same map size and same player count.
For Factional Warfare, the doors that pubs had layed out should open. More open maps, bigger player count with massive battles going on. Since this battles actually matter in the New Eden universe, hardcore players would be wanting to go all out, not giving any mercy. This will turn off any casual from jumping into Factional Warfare for the giggles unless he is serious about it. Of course, bigger player count in a battle, more open maps and a never ending war will sure attract quite a lot of people. Making Factional Warfare THE game mode for veterans other than PC.
This is how Factional Warfare should evolve in the future. With your idea, Breaking Stuff, and my idea melted together (tho my ideais for the future of Dust/Legion) Factional Warfare will be attracting the hardcore crowd and stirring them away from pub stomps and have massive and epic battles while at it.
But your idea sounds more than enough for now. I love it +1

I very much like the idea of fixing the contested districts and showing those as selectable options in the FW-screen.
I'm not too keen on the continuous battles. The 20 minute structure has it's advantages, but I feel these are two different topics.
I see two options for fixing contested districts: A. Contested districts are determined during downtime based on planetary control. For 23 hours the same districts will be available for selection in the battlefinder. This makes it very easy to organize orbital support. I'm not sure what would happen during the off-hours where barely anyone plays. Also, if the contested district is in the wrong system one faction will have orbital support for 23 hours straight. B. Districts are contested until a certain criteria is reached. Then a new district - preferably in the vicinity - becomes contested and shows up in the battlefinder. If more mercs queue for battle, more districts become contested - if less mercs queue, less battles will become contested. A district stops being contested after it has been held for a certain amount of time by one faction continuously - in terms of the above suggestion for 1 hour, in current gameplay terms for 3 consecutive skirmish matches.
I like B a lot. You can spawn matches based on current demand - more players equal more matches and faster conquering. Battles happen in the same place until one faction won decisively - that helps interaction with capsuleers but also allows the losing faction's capsuleers to get to the next district first once a new district is contested.
It would be very important to transparently show where battles are happening, what their current status is (how many players are there currently, how are the teams performing) and where other people are queuing.
Finally, sorry for going off on the tangent of fixed districts. Your original post mainly aimed at continuous battles. I think that's a fairly big step that has both advantages and disadvantages. Fixed districts is a much smaller feature that can help the game a lot too. |

Also, I think faction warfare (and PC) maps should be at least double the size of regular pub maps.

Do you have any source on this? Why is it that when you have a system to 95% there's never battles there even if the other faction has the full modifer?
