The PG optimization skill for weapons should decrease the pg by one pg instead of a percentage. |

This would mean that the skills is FAR more useful for some weapons over others, and in some cases put some weapons into the negative PG cost if memory serves, which is just silly.

Well actually you're not really using your head then, because if the weapon in question uses say 3PG, under your system levels 4 and 5 of that skill would be completely pointless. That being said you would have a situation where certain weapons would take less SP to fully optimize than others. That's really not fair to those weapons that would require Fitting optimization V, now would it?

There is still your Porto gear and right now the skill is not very good for the sp investment 5 pg would make a lot more sense than 3.5pg for all the sp invested and it does basically nothing for the adv and basic. |

So what you really want is a larger percentage so your SP investment feels like it's worth it. A move to an absolute -X PG per level causes far more issues than simply increasing the % so you get a larger benefit.

I want a solution that actually benefits all types of tiers of gear better and has more of a benefit for the investment. Some flat pg reduction would be ideal. |

Except a flat reduction benefits certain gear more than others.

Well the current system assures little benefit if at all. Skilling tier one is completely worthless. |

Well we could make it 2pg for basic 3.5pg adv and 5pg proto. |

I understand that, Im not arguing with you about your interpretation of benefit/cost. I'm saying that flat bonuses are bad for several reasons, and that you can achieve your end goal through less problematic means.
Also note that just because the game only displays whole numbers, doesn't mean decimals don't exist behind the scenes, so even if that first level doesn't shave off a full PG, it's still taking off a percentage of a point and those values are not rounded until all skills, weapons, and modules are taken into account.

Well, there is a fair amount of precedent for flat cost reduction. There used to be a ton, but aren't there several skills in game now that do that? I think Scrambler pistol is +1 bullet in clip per level or something like that. |

Don't you get cute with us and use that logic of yours!
I agree with him though that the optimization skill is pretty much garbage. It is more beneficial across the board to increase the suit pg upgrades over the optimization. They need to think how to make optimization more effective as a skill is the real approach.
There are other far more useless skills though, lots of the general unlock sets.
Heavy with a massive bullet hose called Lola (Burst HMG).

In extreme cases yes, a flat bonus may be more appropriate, but a flat -1/level for all weapons is just silly.

I don't know how it would work either. Some guns get WAY more bonus from the current incarnation than others because they cost more PG. (it's rounded up I believe after modifiers)
But I can kind of see the point? I mean -- since PG optimization is weapon specific it could easily be tailored to match the gun and make it solidly useful without breaking one gun more than another I think. I'm not sure this NEEDS to be done -- depends on what CCP wants us to have on our suits :s |
