When i started Dust 514 back in beta after waiting years from the original announcement at a fanfest. I thought dust was going to be a huge part of the new eve universe.
Like when wormholes came out.
So i jumped at it thinking it would be a great way of making isk one day. And that having a dust/eve corp would be super important.
I believe Goonfleet, Eve university, Dark taboo, etc all thought the same thing. Hence the push to get dust players. Major alliance became worried. They cried to ccp we don't want console gamers ruining our eve experience. Our empire we built from our mothers basement.
So as it stands in eve for estimates to make isk 10 mil hour high sec mining in a skiff 50 mil hour WH running 30 mil lvl 4 high sec marauder 20-500 mil hour low sec ratting depending on drops EVE-Dust ISK and hour Priceless.
Yeah you can argue LP from faction warfare OB's or Planetary interaction on owned district planets. I don't do faction warfare, for P.I. i would have to own the customs office on the planet to make a profit, but i don't want to do PI in low sec and the district could flip so there goes bonus.
Current EVE Profit from DUST negative thanks to OB ship losses. I think i would of had more fun AFKing a freighter through null on my eve toon. There is no benefit in eve to having anything Dust related.
I wish i would have sat mining in eve instead of playing dust at this point. I thought i could combine the two and it would be a benefit to each. I even talked corp mates into buy PS3's to play with me back in the day.
Anyway I would love to hear from other's. Thoughts or opinions. Did you invest in dust to help your eve toon out?

No. It should definitely be the other way around roll EVE to help your Dust character out...
But.... Till something is announced with Legion. Dust is no longer CCP's "flagship shooter"
So if you want to invest in something full time under CCP's control, EVE should be where it's at.. |

I will stick with DUST and hope for legion. but most my time will be spent back in EvE. Not knocking it but how much aurum in dust would i have to buy that having a 14.99 USD eve account would be worth it? And if the eve toon doesn't make isk i would need a second plex to by OB ships every month thats now 30.00. Sorry but i think logic of eve to support dust is backwards

Nope.
I knew it was doomed to fail the moment it was announced as a PS3 exclusive (the disconnect is just too strong).
But I still held up hope that maybe, just maybe, they could pull it off; or that they would release it on PC or as a career in EVE at some point.
The moment they did the right thing, with Legion, PS3-fanboyism killed it again.
The EVE pilots were right. PS3 console players ruined their New Eden experience. I seriously feel that CCP will write this whole thing off, and never dabble with FPS again... that's as good a way as any to ruin someone's experience.

we were fooled by the hype machine at one time thinking this was going to be the birth of some sort of revolution in FPS.. "but bro they're bridging the gap between PC and console!"... was our mantra. our local LOL'ed some EVE pilot noob out of the channel the other day when he asked us how does it feel to play a game where he and his buddies could glass our planet.. we were like "bro seriously do you live under a rock? noobs these days.. didn't you get the memo? GTFO noob etc." some of these high sec miners are beyond delusional still under the impression of old info.. i felt embarassed for him.. even his other EVE pilot's got a good laugh from that.. |

yeah i like that consoles are cheap gaming computers. i got one just to play Blue rays. And my PC is old so other PS3 titles that were ported from PC run better since lack of high end graphics card.
With all these dumb current consul games with pay extra expansions you think people would learn to break free.
If CCP endorse a cheap gaming computer that could handle legion/eve/dust maybe they make a profit and provide a needed service to non-pc owning consul players. Thats the biggest issue i hear dusties say is they have to spend 2,000 USD on a gaming machine.
Oh if only they added up all the prices for there console.
Sorry thread might be getting to political. It frustrates me. tho the lack on oneness when thats what EVE has always been about. The worlds greatest sandbox

****, with nowadays technology you can build a gaming computer that will run all the high end games on ultra for right at 1000..
The only time someone has to spend that kind of money is if they don't educate themselves and they go with Alienware...
The partnering with Steambox type setup idea, would be sweet. They can promote a couch and controller setup for Legion so it won't scare to much of their console fanbase away.. |

You should never make a pilot leave. that hurts you and ccp. Instead be like code and milk them. And miners do the job nobody else wants to. I think I speak for many when I say that it would be much more benifical to improve this game to the point where people want to play it before trying to connect it to another.

That's not to say I don't want the link, but there are more important things to be done first.
.
So your saying dust isn't ready to be part of eve? I mean if you look at hacking sites in eve i could say the same thing. that it needs fixed to the point where there fun to do. they suck. they only reason people do them is for the isk. Dust is fun but if you made it worth eve isk then more people would do it.
I like fun but being rich in isk i can have more fun. I wish there was a link that made an eve dust relationship profitable for both accounts.

my ninja salvaging career was destroyed overnight by that stupid mass salvager ship drove the price of salvage into the ground.. i used to get epic hatemail every hour for that now i have to suicide gank a cov op scanner ship who parks at 0m to the sun.. you ever go sun hopping? you can find a lot of cov ops parked at 0m in high sec.. they usually have sister mods for loot.. no cov ops around to suicide gank then with a little cloak and a lot of speed there are always other peoples wreckage to loot especially during a battle.. bottom feeding pays waaay more than mining.. with cloak, speed, NPC corps and an overall apathy you can **** off whoever in New Eden you want to i'm like oh boo hoo i just lost a cruiser but i wasted 30 minutes of someone elses time in doing so. |

well no the minmatar destroyer was awesome for suicide ganking (which is the dust equivalent of ramming an expensive ADS with a cheap ship).. the minmatar cruiser is very fast and was good for trolling pirates.. they would give up on attacking me after a few days because they would figure out that I was there for the chase and was just wasting their time.. the more i would do this then i would be able to run cargo thru that zone them assuming i was just there trolling again.. i would establish myself with the locals in that sector as a low value target. also the more i would get chased the better i got at running so there was that bonus before i started moving stuff thru their sector.. the minmatar had the fastest ships and a theft based ship could be built for very cheap to go after high value wrecks in a battle. they introduced a super suicied ganker.. iirc it was called the cyclone, could fit large artillery, could gank some pretty big stuff. was basically a destroyer on steroids i forget the class possibly battle cruiser. |

The whole Eve connection thing died the moment Dust was released it was never going to happen under the current circumstances that Dust was in. It is impossible now because the focus has shifted in Dust development, the team probably do not have any resources to do an eve connection, and the Eve team do not seem interested either. People should ask themselves since the game released in May 2013 what has CCP major and minor thing they had done to connect the games and what was the last time they did. Also take in consideration that the Dust team is smaller now.
Even if Dust was on a different platform that doesn't mean any real connection was feasible. Dust was being designed for a long time, about 4 plus years and in addition to the time the game been out and CCP still didn't know how to achieve their goals. Imo it was never going happen to begin with. |

The switch from Carbon to Unreal is what I blame. I think the "Link to EVE" is an old relic of when it was using the Carbon engine and they were testing before it melted the PS3.
It made sense to do an FPS on a console as those always have done better on those, but a sustainable game is impossible on consoles due to the life expectancy and limitation on "upgrades."

wow that just makes me feel like ccp is miss managed or too afraid to take a big step. Innovation is always more important then maintaining. good things should never be killed. Maybe they should open development to third party volunteers with UDK experience. It would give some people a great portfolio reference letter and allow ccp to do more with less. I think the game has great potential but with out new maps, better graphics any game will wear out.

agree i always hated UDK. its texture/ effect layers never mesh right and you have to make so many invisible box's that its just a fail. unless its used for flat no vertical terrain games.

Yeah i mean afraid of integration. forging the frontier and pushing for dust on pc and ps3 at the same time. It could have been done with alot of server work. both markets would have been stronger. Its the same reason why fast food restaurants do better next to each other then off by themselves.

Well, I may get ripped apart by others, but here goes...
I quite enjoy what little link we have.
Said it.
Yes, it is next to non-existant, but there is something very satisfying about having an impact on another game, while still playing my own.
It is just a shame that it cannot work the other way (EDIT: on an opt-in basis, I must add), and I firmly believe that if my corporation/alliance did not play DUST, we would not involve ourselves; there is next to no incentive for Capsuleers - think DUST warbarge style as of this writing, where the bonus is far outweighed by the effort required to get it.
That said, DUST has bigger problems than this link though, and they need addressing first.
But that is just my 0.02ISK. |

Well, if Dust was an expansion to EVE instead of a separate game, that could have opened the door to a totally different type of gameplay within EVE. A whole new career choice.
If it were a separate game, but still on PC; updates, patching, and content could have been easier to keep up with, and they would have had less tape to cut through to release a major patch, update, etc. CCP developers regularly complained about the PS3's limitations. But if they started on the PC, they could have made the game they wanted, and then scaled back where necessary for a PS3 port.
Either way, CCP could have established more meaningful connections between the games, if they gave themselves the time and platform to do it on. But going on about what "could" have happened, is irrelevant at this point.

If it was an expansion of Eve? I don't think you know what that entails. Dust is an FPS game it would need an engine to run it Eve's engine isn't capable of that, so it would have to use an different engine or the Carbon engine and also work with Eve's engine so the players can transfer back and forth. Either way it would have to be designed as a separate game because Dust is a FPS and EVE isn't . There also a bunch of questions you need to ask yourself for that even to work.
Updates isn't much of an issue the only obstacle is Sony certification system. But CCP seems to be doing fine with it because they still update the game monthly and they did so for 8 months straight in 2013. Lastly CCP imo had very little direction for this game I don't even think they even knew how dust is suppose to turn out. Depending on how they do it their 'vision' probably could be achieved( whatever it actually was) . But it doesn't matter if they can't do it on the ps3. The ps4 is already out; they could have just ported the game over to a more powerful system. |
