Well, if Dust was an expansion to EVE instead of a separate game, that could have opened the door to a totally different type of gameplay within EVE. A whole new career choice.

If it were a separate game, but still on PC; updates, patching, and content could have been easier to keep up with, and they would have had less tape to cut through to release a major patch, update, etc.
CCP developers regularly complained about the PS3's limitations. But if they started on the PC, they could have made the game they wanted, and then scaled back where necessary for a PS3 port.

Either way, CCP could have established more meaningful connections between the games, if they gave themselves the time and platform to do it on.
But going on about what "could" have happened, is irrelevant at this point.

EVE is chugging along fine; Dust has been on life support for at least the last several months.

Imo it was never going happen to begin with. wow that just makes me feel like ccp is miss managed or too afraid to take a big step. Innovation is always more important then maintaining. good things should never be killed. Maybe they should open development to third party volunteers with UDK experience. It would give some people a great portfolio reference letter and allow ccp to do more with less. I think the game has great potential but with out new maps, better graphics any game will wear out. If they was afraid they wouldn't be talking about it for a long time including the time the game has been out. It was mismanaged more than anything.

Dust is an FPS game it would need an engine to run it Eve's engine isn't capable of that, so it would have to use an different engine or the Carbon engine and also work with Eve's engine so the players can transfer back and forth. Either way it would have to be designed as a separate game because Dust is a FPS and EVE isn't . There also a bunch of questions you need to ask yourself for that even to work. Updates isn't much of an issue the only obstacle is Sony certification system. But CCP seems to be doing fine with it because they still update the game monthly and they did so for 8 months straight in 2013. Lastly CCP imo had very little direction for this game I don't even think they even knew how dust is suppose to turn out. Depending on how they do it their 'vision' probably could be achieved( whatever it actually was) . But it doesn't matter if they can't do it on the ps3. The ps4 is already out; they could have just ported the game over to a more powerful system.
