Im sorry CCP, but i have to be honest with you. The boxes are trash.
Let me put it this way - if i pay money to open a box, that box better not contain a middle finger on a spring that pops out like some perverted jack-in-the-box. Thats basically what it is when you give your paying customers a handfull of fancy starter fits or a skill book they already own, or some basic gear - lets face it if i wanted basic gear and didnt have the SP for it i'd be better off getting a booster and playing like, 2 matches, tops. Lets not kid ourselves, a key is far more valuable than even a specialization skillbook (800k isk)
Rattati, in another thread (regarding skillbooks) you chastised players for their (rightful) anger at receiving a skillbook, and claimed that these players must not care about new players very much - this is far from the truth for several reasons.
First off - how many new players are going to open them? Lets be honest here. Additionally, what use do new players have a handful of basic fits? Chances are those 15 suits wont last 1 game.
Additionally, with my previous point about new player life expectancy in mind - what use do these players have for officer weapons?
ADV gear i can understand as being useful for new players... if it was rewarded in numbers greater than 60 at a time (more for modules) and proto gear can be occasionally usefull for mid level players that frequently run with a squad but arent skilled into proto. Aside from that, the only other things useful for new players currently in the boxes are BPOs and boosters
most times i open a box i end up dissappointed. Spamming players with 6-10 boxes full of trash that just clutter their inventory isnt how you monetize a game, and it isnt conductive to getting players to buy more keys in the future or respect you as developers. Now im not saying that every time i open a box i should get a BPO - what i am saying is that the current rewards simply dont measure up.
As far as solutions go, the only real solution is to increase the quantity and quality of the contents.
-No more basic gear (suits, guns, mods)
-No more skillbooks.
-No more starter fits.
-Advanced gear should be 50-70 for suits and guns, 200ish for modules.
-Proto should be 20-25 for suits and guns, 75ish for modules.
-As far as BPOs and boosters go, the current rate is fine ( i say this having gotten no BPOs after opening 16 boxes)
-More reliability in officer weapons. Ive heard of people getting up to 4 from one box (can someone confirm?) But ive only ever gotten 1 from 4 separate crates and 2 from one other crate.
In closing i just want to be honest - i planned on buying keys after this event, depending on how much i wanted the BPOs. After getting starter fits and basic suits from the vast majority of the free keys i got so far, i wasnt so certain. Then i got a skillbook. a ******* caldari medium frame skillbook (that i already had trained) and that settled it - the keys simply werent worth my money.
The ball is in your court, CCP, but all your players agree - skillbooks and basic suits arent worth the effort needed to buy the damn keys - atleast not when they are worth AUR.
Sir Dukey-
