Additionally the shield tanker benefit more from using cover than armor tankers assuming they are using proto mods on both suits or the same tier, eg: both use std suits but with proto regeneration mods and minimal hp mods.
Shield tankers seem to be incentivized to use dampeners more than armor tankers by the arrangement of low slot mods and high slot mods. Despite the caldari having less low slots.
If you want a shield tanker to succeed (in CQC) against a SCR armor tanker, use a std medium caldari frame with 2 proto dampeners and hp shield mods in the high slots, while using a assault combat rifle, so you can flank your opponent while he is busy with other players. Or use a std shotgun. or an assault rifle. Or an assault rail rifle. But you must be extremely accurate with one long burst of bullets. Otherwise you may fail.
Did you know that the std assault rail rifle has a higher damage per clip compared to the std assault rifle? lol.
Or use a adv caldari medium "assault" suit with 2 proto dampener and 2 shield hp mods and 2 proto precision enhancers, with an ACR or shotgun etc. (getting a value of 20's in scan profile and precision with high hp is easier in an assault suit than a scout) You should make sure you are not discovered until you attack up close. This can be very challenging in proto stomps. You may get unlucky by being killed by scouts. DUST 514 is very chaotic and even if you do everything right some things can go wrong.
But scouts are able to get better max ewar than assault suits but with less health and more speed and cloak. Both are very good at some stuff.
The current breach and assault rail rifles do not significantly outrange the scrambler rifle, not only that, but their long range performance is hampered by how they jitter around while firing, making it hard to stay on target without repeatedly stopping and recharging the weapon. The scrambler rifle is actually way better in long distance fighting due to pinpoint accuracy and virtually no kick. Im fine with this as a general concept since it is a tactical rifle, but I just want to make sure this idea that the rail rifle somehow does better in long distance encounters compared to the scrambler does not go unchallenged, because its a misconception. The scrambler is better in long range combat.
Basically what you are saying with the rest of the post here is never get shot at if you are in a shield suit. This is not helpful. Shield suits are supposed to do very well in long range head to head or flanking encounters, but due to the dominance of armor tank and the overpoweredness of the scrambler rifle, 9/10 you would do better to just use a scrambler on a gallente or ammar suit for your long range needs. Right now I actually feel more safe fighting a scrambler rifle up close with a shotgun than at max range with a railgun. I think thats an issue with the game balance right now and is indicative of how the tanking philosophies are not working correctly (or are just poorly balanced in general). |
