being that the KB/M can make an extreme change direction instantly, be it a 90' turn or left right at a speed which cannot be closely matched by a controller. maybe its only fair that some sort of slowing of the change of direction is introduced.
i am not going to lie i can track controller players well enough at reasonably close range but i cannot compete with the keyboard instant change of direction. its a huge advantage and so obvious who is using it by the instant right angled turns which simply can't be done on the DS3 |

KB/M suffers a penalty in return -- no Aim assist. The controller is hugely advantaged over the KB/M in this game due to the way the Aim assist works. KB/M is only better at forgegunning and sniping. |

i am used to PC games and unfortunatly my current KB/M will not work with the PS3 - i am going to build a new gaming rig so i guess the first thing ill do is buy a new KB/M and compair notes. personally i find aiming ect on PC games alot easier aswell as clicking the mouse over the controller, i can do it alot quicker with less movement.
IMO dust should not support KB/M as its a console game |

I play with kb/m beacuse it's what I'm most comfortable with. I am playing the game on hardmode because of it. Try turning aim assist off and see where that puts you. This suggeestion is stupid,because in order to slow down turn speed like you want, you would have to turn down sensitivity so far that kb/m will be unplayable. And you know what? If that happens, I'll buy a m/kb converter and have m/kb AND aimbot.
If you think its 'unfair' anyway because reasons, petition them to increase turn speed on controller. |

ok bought the KB/M and played one game before downtime.
its going to take a bit to learn, and ill need to play with the settings i feel. really can't get used to zooming and firing both with the mouse buttons from that match. Always fired and took my finger off the zoom staight away
i strafed like i never have before, and did better in close combat than ranged surprisingly. really need to change some of the buttons to something a bit more second nature to me. i did pretty bad 2/4/9 i think, i was basic vs advanced and proto for the most part but it was a very bad score and one i would not expect to usually get.
in all honesty its like playing a different game - ill keep you updated on my progress.
on to the point in hand though - I have never stafed so fast in my life although i was in an armor tanked Ammar assault. i can't talk yet of the overall balance of play but it does seem excessive the stafing

IMHO KB/m is in a bad position. No aim assist which seems to help immensely with lag / hit detection and specific weapons. Also the controls get squishy and unbearable in lag. Plus horizontal and vertical speed is not the same....
KB/m to controller adapter ? That souns s interesting any link?

If you've ever used it, you'll admit that native KBM is much harder than using DS3 -- all things being equal.
And it's not even close.
The only thing you have going for you is strafing -- and the advantage is barely noticeable in side-by-side comparisons. Don't believe me? Hit me up in game and ask me to show you like I've shown 20 other people.
And on the other side of the coin: You lose aim assist. You lose the ability to move in a circle. You introduce input lag or "running in sand" feeling to the controls. Changing equipment and issuing squad orders become problematic. Heaven forbid you hit the tab key in game and die while looking at the damn scoreboard.
All of the above said, I've heard through the grapevine than using a macro keyboard with this DS3 emulator: http://xim4.com/ makes for a much more useful MKB experience in Dust. I've got one, but haven't had the time/inclination to experiment with it yet. |

Thanks! I didn't know that...but I tested it like this video and sure enough, you're right.
This explains a lot as to why the wireless DS3 feels the smoothest (even if my right thumb isn't nimble enough to be effective).
I'm going to play around some more....like in the video...I've got more than a few input devices around. But damn if I didn't just get rid of my old tube Sony HDTV. It would have been the perfect test monitor. :(
I intend to test:
Wireless DS3 Wired DS3 (direct & through external hub) Penguin Eagle Eye (never could get to work well for me) XIM4 (just got, haven't tried) FragFX Shark (never truly felt good to me) Aimon PS Elite (this is what I use today, direct connected into the USB port of the PS3) |

This. The controller styles have asymmetric balance. KB/M excels in some roles, DS3 in others. And to be honest, you guys probably get the better deal with aim assist. KB/M used to be beastly a long time ago.

ps... while I strafe I often have insane lag so I can't even use my "super strafe" properly. Maybe that is partly due to not having reinstalled the game once yet :P

Reinstalling really helped me. In fact, I wiped the entire hard disk and reformatted it with only Dust. The performance increase was quite noticeable. MKB still sucked. lol |

Aim assist IS really crazy, almost as bad as Destiny in fact. It's super magnetic capabilities are astounding........ until you pull the trigger. Then it has next to no magnetism whatsoever.

Get something like a XIM4 or GIMX to work with your PS3. You won't regret it. Turning on AA doesn't really interfere with your aiming but makes hit detection about 10x better.
So you get a nice smooth experience using a better emulator and you get aimbot, best of both worlds.
I use a Corsair mechanical keyboard myself, which of course is not an HID compliant device either so I personally used GIMX. Since you run the control scheme through the PC you can use any m/kb device your PC can use. Additionally, you also never suffer from changes to the m/kb controls in the game.
Honestly, they should remove the stock mkb controls and force people to use emulators, its a much much better experience. |

While it might be nice, that is just too much.
Is that why trigger-bots are so effective? I mean the guys which press the fire button 1000000 times a second to empty their rifle instantly (SCR).

No, the aim assist in Dust is NOTHING compared to Destiny. It is difficult to MISS someone's head.
But the Aim assist in Dust works despite lag, strafe speed, hit detection issues. It's less cross hair magnetism (although it exists) than...something else. Basically, and this is completely an off the cuff guess, seeing as dust is mostly hit-scan weapons...
Actually I'm not going to go into that. Not enough evidence even anecdotally. Much less tested. Much LESS ratio between complementary mechanics. Much MUCH less with not understanding why hit detection breaks as bad as it does during high ping and high speed movement. I'm just going to drop it before I look stupid.
I will say this, I played FPS games on computers in the mid/late 90s as a job. It payed for college. It payed for a car. Sundays spent, with the team I played on, practicing strafe jumps just around 1 particular room to take advantage of a small lamp to hop a wall you couldn't normally reach super fast. Literally quit video games for a couple of years after.
I am no where near as good with the m/kb as I used to be -- but m/kb is, for me, more comfortable than the controller. Far and AWAY more comfortable.
And I use the controller unless I'm forging, laser gunning, or sniping in Dust. That is just one guy's perspective, but I find that when running a rifle, sidearm of any type, my KDR is significantly higher when using the controller.
I think Whale said it best -- "you make a move, and dust sits around thinking about what it was." (or something to that effect.)
So OP, I will be very honest with you. Be GRATEFUL that the controller has a split second deadzone when it comes to linear strafing. One that can be over come by circle strafing, figure 8 strafing, jesus fish strafing, whatever pattern keeps you moving. Because if the controller didn't have this (what is considered but may not actually be one) disadvantage (again that is so easy to marginalize) , they might have to buff M/KB to compensate.
Actually come to think of it, they should fix m/kb so that at least the reticule moves with your mouse <.<
Also, if they ever can/decide/do put inertia into the game to patch the hit detection issues, M/kb will lose their different (I can't honestly say superior) strafing. So there is that possibility as well.
EDIT note: Use a PS4 controller. The sticks beat the hell out of the ps3 controller. You can pair them up via bluetooth just fine, and you will fine it to be much more responsive. |

Being KB/M you can take more bullets on at one with that stupidly fast ankle breaking strafe. Even a KB/M heavy can strafe faster than a DS3 Min Scout.

It does help a little when the target is only strafing a few steps to the left and right. The original video is longer, about 9 minutes, I only posted the first two minutes on YouTube as it showed the effects of aim assist quite well.
IGÇÖll check the rest of the video tonight, I remember there being a good section on burst fire too. If youGÇÖre bursting the effects of aim assist are more pronounced but you have to time your bursts well and that can be hard when your enemy is strafing and shooting back.
But the point is; aim assist is nowhere near as strong as a lot of people make it out to be.

There are cheaper ones but here is an example
I am considering one just to try to use to adapt to KB.M. I really want to make the jump to PC gaming but I have always been a console gamer leaving me very bad with KB.M.

Between the DS3 and KB/M I have to say they both suck utter ass.
The side to side wiggl is a pain in the ass but is easily matched and beaten for hit detection evasion by the circle or figure 8 strafe.
For whatever reason hit detection seems to be worse hitting targets moving at oblique angles than it is with the side to side jitterbug.
