CCP rattati has said that he has tried to make the AR compete with other rifles in 5 different hotfixes with little success. He is continually working on making it a good rifle. As a gallente fool who has stuck by the race through thick, and thin I sincerely hope he gets the job done.
I hope you can fix this thing before I respec away from it. Currently the rail rifle is the best rifle to use with the gallente abilities. The SL4 out performs prototype AR's. The AR sharpshooter is a waste of points, and rifles without a sharpshooter perform better for less points. Maybe you can start there rattati.
I will stay gallente as I do not deny that you you have once again made the race worth running. Alot of guys have respec away from gallente dropsuits and weapons because the bonuses suck, and the weapons under perform overall. The breach was good briefly, but instantly knocked back down by the community. Funny the scrambler hasn't received that treatment.

I run the breach and Burst short to mid range. Generally 15 to 45 meters. Pass that I go with the assault rail rifle. The assault rail just works well with the suit. I don't use the Tac AR. The dmg profile says use it as much as I can, but idk it doesn't seem to draw my appeal. It's not that it doesn't work statistically. More that it doesn't fire in a manner that I find advantageous to my play style.
I find that the suit itself( gal assault) is actually better at range for me. Being in AR ranges with the gal assault tends to be bad for the suit. That puts you inside CR range, and in a gal suit that's a no go! Those things shred armor. Before I can put out enough dmg out of an AR my suit is toast unless I'm proto.

This is true for all laser weaponry! The laser and scrambler are beast against armor! -20 means f*ck all because of their dmg profiles.

Jack McReady wrote:the problem here is not that the AR is bad. the issue is gallente is supposed to be second fastest race with short ranged weaponry but yet for some reason they share stamina and movement statistics with caldari which is supposed to be long range and second slowest. the TAR on gallente assault works great because it features long range, huge dps and lessens the TAR kick by alot. every other AR works better on a minmatar suit or scout/light frame.
PS: dont respec, slap a TAR on gallente assault and go to town, you will be surprise how effective it is.
Agreed. I can get the gal assault up to speed with mods, but the min assault and cal assault can get just as fast and faster. When I go for speed I lose armor protection. I can run shields with the suits versatility, but lose the dmg and precision capabilities for shield and shield regen.
The suit is mad versatile, nothing like the min assault, but still extremely versatile. The issue is surviving engagements at close range with the other rifles out performing the AR in it's optimal range. The AR has no multiplier like the laser rifle. Once I'm through the shields of a suit the dmg drops off drastically! AR's aren't particularly good against armor. By the time I get the enemy low on HP I myself am in a world of hurt!
Shield regen is faster than armor repair so a shield suit being faster can takeep cover and regen faster than I can. They run faster, regen faster, and deal better dmg against armor than I do. That's why the weapon may be good in cqc, but the dropsuit isn't with the weapons in question. The suit itself is better at range. As you say it is slower than the min and the the same speed as the cal.
I think I'm explaining my dilemma correctly. The suit and weapon synergy isn't there in their proposed primary zone, and range is a better option.
I will give the Tac AR a fair shot over the next week or so to prove myself wrong, but in PC it will have to be the assault rail.

Sgt Kirk wrote:With rifles it should go like this when it comes to range dominance progression:
Assault Rifle - Combat Rifle - Scrambler Rifle - Rail Rifle
Instead you get Combat Rifle - Combat Rifle - Combat Rifle and Scrambler Rifle - Rail Rifle.
This exactly!
In a close range area where the gal assault is supposed to be pushing the hack I'm finding myself in a long range fight against multiple CR's. My reps are too slow, or I don't have enough armor. I have either dmg or shield. Not enough shield, but it is needed aagainst the CR. No shield is death so I forsake the dmg mods and precision.
I usually never get the point because I'm busy trying to kill of constantly spawning mercs with better performing riflesh and suits. It's great for my kd ofcourse, but we're losing the match?!

Also just to be clear, I have 4 of the 5 gallente dropsuits proto. I've also tried running the AR versions on the commando dropsuit with the 10% bonus to dps that the assaults desperately want. The rail is still a better rifle to use because the dropsuit itself is too slow. You need that distance and armor based dmg to survive.
When mercs think gal commando they think some green rock in a room with a PLC and a shotgun terrorizing the bravo area?! It doesn't work that way. It's too slow to chase tanks with a plasma cannon, doesn't have enough slots to be great in cqc just so-so, and again you're in min assault territory?!
Running the AR on gal commandos is ok 1v1, but that's against rookies. That extra dps won't get out the barrel before a min assault takes you out.
