So far its been somewhat of a crap experience. When on recruit phase matches it was ok. Maintaining a high KDA ratio is cake walk. But then after just a measly number of matches they throw you in with people of all levels, which most of them are on bloody proto fits. That is when the cookie crumbled. KDA when down the toilet and grabbing objectives is pretty much suicide since everything can kill you in split seconds. I though: "Damn maybe im just a very fking bad player". I then proceeded to follow guides and shet. No change at all.
Then a friend lent me a fully build character. Result? Everything withing my line of site pretty much dies. So in the end the game is pretty much a P2W grindfest. If I had to point out the biggest problem it would be that players with low amount of skill points are forced to play with players that pretty much have everything already. If you want to progress at a good rate you pretty much have to spend AUR, which would allow you to get SP much faster and on top of that you have access to high level weapons earlier. Also SP usage is pretty tight. Meaning you can't enjoy the variety the game has easily. That said, the game has good gameplay and mechanics, the only thing if you are not willing pay don't expect to be good at the game. It's not that I am unwilling to pay for a game, but games like this always try to lure you in like that and then you have to spend more money than the game is worth or get rek.
I am still playing this game every now and then (with my friend's acc of course, otherwise not) but the way game progression works is pretty unfair and don't recommend this game to anyone. Keep in mind if you are getting into this game don't expect much if ya ain't paying. You will probably are better playing off another FPS like Killzone, Destiny, CoD, Battlefield, ect.

It can be a little bit rough starting out. You never *need* to buy aur to succeed however. Invest in your dropsuit, then your support skills (prettymuch anything to do with hp or hp modules) before doing ANY leveling of weapons.
Work on some of your daily missions and find some friends to play with, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable. It's really a 'long haul' kind of game. They are working on making some positive changes to the new player experience.
As an FYI, I think I've only ever spent about 25$ on dust in about two years. Once you get over the 5 / 10m sp hurdle the game becomes a lot more accessible.
That should get you: Dropsuit of choice to 5 (~2.1m sp) Armor & Shield upgrades to 5 (~1.4m) Armor Repairers + Plates to 5 or shield extenders to 5 (~1.4m for former & ~ .8m for shields) Cpu & PG skills to 4 (~1m) Electronic warfare skills all to 5 (~2.1m sp) Weapon of choice to level 1 (~100-400k sp based on weapon)

That said, I'm not discounting your experience either.

I like to think of my NPE so far as less of an FPS style game and more Survival Horror.
It's tough and I think one of the main issues is the focus on K/D and the general feeling that if you can't get a good K/D then there's no point in playing the game. I like the mixed ability battlefield but running around dying for 20mins isn't much fun. |

The New Player Experience is horrible. It's a very known thing and unfortunately, it's hard to correct with such a low player base, yet we have a low player base BECAUSE of the poor NPE.
Squad up when you can. It's one of the most important aspects of this game. Solo playing can be done, but generally not very well. A proto can still fall to 4-6 STDs. This game was always a social game and I don't mean that you have to talk to people and become friends. Just jump in random squads, stick together as a group in game and you might eventually find that group you just click with. That's how corps are found/made.
This game is not p2w...everything you buy you can earn through grinding, which most of us have done for the past 2 years. Therefore the giant skill gap.
I don't know how many lifetime SP your friend's account has, but depending on that and what he's skilled into, would greatly influence your survivability. That being said, gear is not the clear winner in this game. Tactics are. Great tactics can destroy the best gear in the game. Many veterans have become great in STD gear just from experience. My corp used to run experiments one weekend a month where we ran ambushes non stop is our starter fits. By sticking together and being very clear about where we were going, we rolled in 80 million for our corp in 2 days. It's how we funded stuff and improved our gun game, teamwork, etc.

New players who run solo are punished for that poor decision over and over and over again.
My advice: Find someone to play with, or consider joining a corp. Get a mic and use it. Your only chance at this tender age is to use numbers and teamwork to your advantage -- because the skill gap combined with the SP game is simply too large for solo noobs to overcome. |

Yes, don't buy AUR and don't buy boosters. Be lucky to get 3000 SP a match, only 100 matches to 300K SP, and before you know it you'll... Still be wishing you bought a lot of boosters. |

First, as others have said, the New Player Experience (NPE) for this game is awful, but that will hopefully be changing in the near future.
That being said, this game is not P2W.
What you are experiencing is a combination of poor NPE, in addition to veterans who have been around a very long time being able to acquire significant amounts of SP and ISK.
Sure, you could catch up quick if you pay a lot, but that isn't always an option, or a satisfactory option for people.
I would suggest taking a break, and letting your passive SP accrue to come back to at a later date.
I also recommend this post here for beginners.

I mostly use the sniper rifle, I go with Charge Sniper Rifle, Scout vk Dropsuit. I usually am changing the modules when in-game so they fit the way I will play in the map, I got a few presets but sometimes I feel like experimenting. I like staying as close as the objective as possible since its less obvious for getting countered sniped but some maps have really good faraway spots that have great visibility on objectives but you are begging to get counter sniped since they are very obvious spots. If the team is reliable I prefer going with the Tactical Sniper which I can easily peel multiple enemies quickly. I NEVER EVER use drop uplinks, I hate it when ally snipers come to my spots and pretty much place themselves completely exposed revealing our position, besides it really rare to die as a sniper. |

I thought the same thing when I first played then quit when I was head and waited it out, best thing I can tell you from my experience is to just go heavy, saves you SP and headaches, you can actually be a threat as a militia heavy than a starter mid frame when you have a HMG,the fear is there and it is good. The game is "age" to win,the older characters have more resources(isk,SP,connections etc.) than the younger ones and know the ins and outs of the game and the money used to accelerate "age" in this game and only used to get over that SP hump before you can actually start having victories against there more mature players.
edit: under the hood of the games works it all just sounds like an system to place new players in a harsh environment, see them break, and make then consider to buy Auum for boosters and such since yeah know the game is so hard |
