Now that I have the pissy out of my system...
Earlier I made a post in GD about quality of life fixes. I listed things that need to be fixed because core playability should be priority. I don't advocate the devs dropping plans to fix everything all at once.
But one core problem tackled in each development cycle would be nice.
Now that that is out of the way I have suggestions for potential culprits to the loss of fps.
I trust the current devs to at least humor the idea and look wheas certain other parties would have sooner bathed in fire ants before admitting something might have gotten buggered up.
Both of these changes happened in uprising 1.0. Uprising 1.0 was the first time the loss of FPS was a widespread issue.
As we know stuttering frame rate affects hit detection. It also creates lag-like artifacting.
The above explanation is mostly to put this into perspective for newer players. Chat lag has been brought up and being evaluated so it is a nonfactor.
But three potential culprits in the framerate problems are:
1. The graphical update introduced in uprising 1.0. The "improvement" was marginal and in many cases hardly noticable. But the framerate stuttering introduced by the 1.0 update for a long timecould only be mitigated by setting the ps3 to 480p. Even so, this doesn't always fix the issue even today.
2. The controls. The controls in uprising were supposed to have been "improved" from chrome to uprising. The dev who did the work was proud enough to announce he had done it himself. Unfortunately the consensus was that it was infinitely worse for both ds3 and m/kb.
3. UI. The UI was altered to move the charge indicators and there have been multiple false start fixes on tge scanning in the game. This could be an area where something went hinky.
It's entirely conceivable that something in either of these major feature improvements could have created an unexpected issue.
Despite all arguments to the contrary, CCP doesn't historically hire idiots. Riot games is loaded with CCP devs who moved on.
But I'm willing to bet the infamous "decimal in the wrong spot" problems every development company encounters might be creating misallocation of ram, processing and graphical resources.
DUST graphics are outstripped by Destiny in both smoothness, but also animation, particle and polygon clutter. I imagine something is up in the graphical scripting that is causing framerate stuttering.
Also likely is a minor error that could actually be holding back what should have been improved controls.
I don't recall updated netcode in uprising so I'm doubting that is the culprit as I had clear ping to the buckingham server during beta and my net is remotely located and arguably crappy.
The two things I feel are most likely to be causing issues are these two core alterations to the DUST client.
Call me crazy but the DUST maps aren't much worse than level design in any other PS3 shooter.
The FPS and hit detection artifacting is thusly something I consider weird.
EVE Online is what you get when engineers attempt to create "fun" without consulting someone who comprehends the word.

General investigation of these progamming anomalies would be a really good way to see if we can improve the game's performance, +1. |

In descending order of effect-per-manhour I'd put these as: 1. Controls 2. UI 3. Graphics
Apart from that I completely agree. Improving the basics even just a bit will improve the game dramatically. |

+1 for core mechanic improvements addressed with updates
bonus +1 for well thought suggestions for investigation to improve core mechanics

I haven't really noticed, but I'm also not a very good judge of any of this.
