Over the last two years, several things related to core game mechanics have been requested fixed by the playerbase since closed beta. These things have, in combination, reduced the enjoyment of the game and caused players to seek greener pastures.
I'm going to be blunt, because I disagree with certain parties who believe "jesus features" like improved planetary conquest should somehow be more important than the baseline playability of the game.
The following complaints have been brought up and not even commented upon or acknowledged as a problem that I have seen.
1: Lag. Since the closing of the oceania server the lag in the game has gotten steadily worse. The amount of rubber banding, cornrr shot kills and general unplayability is often more common than playable matches.
Whatever is causing this problem should be made a priority regardless of whether it is network code, hardware or chat lag. This is a basic thing that affects everyone in the game.
2: Hit detection. The hit detection in DUST is spotty, unreliable and entirely too dependent upon aim assist as a fix. Part of it is related to lag, but not all of it. It is most notable if you play with m/kb or the aim assist off. You will have periods where it doesn't matter where uour reticle is, you aren't going to hit.
3. Controls. Since DUST changed from Chromosome to Uprising the controls in DUST have been sluggish, unresponsive and allow little precision. In any other game the controls have to be fully functional and senitive, and adjustable. I'm not talking about remapping buttons or keys, I'm talking about x, y and z axis controls.
This one is a particular peeve of mine because I've had a cpm member tell me it's not important enough to make a priority. Both the m/kb and dualshock controls are heinous.
4. Devs following up on promises or actions when they say they will. This one speaks for itself and has cropped up numerous times. Even a response of "this isn't feasible" is better than three months of silence.
5. Real matchmaking. One sided fights are only fun for the victor.
6. Rewards system. This is only considered ok by people who are chosen by their PC corps as ringers and are able to continuously enjoy PC EoM payouts.
The combination of the above has had more to do with people leaving and badmouthing DUST more than any other factor in the game.
Three of the listed factors would represent immediate quality of life improvements in PC and FW.
These are the reasons most cited why friends of mine IRL eefuse to play this game again. These are the most common reasons I see derided.
People don't quit snd hate on a game because it lacks jesus features. They do it when the game is considered unplayable by modern gaming industry standards, even among F2P and freemium games.

All good points, but 1 and 6 resonate with me.
The lag in DUST 514 is, at times, some of the worst I have seen in any online FPS. I can't describe with words just how frustrating it is to die to someone, not because they had the high ground, better fitting, or even superior numbers, but because they weren't lagging as hard as I was.
The rewards for public contracts could be improved with increased salvage rates*. FacWar needs to have the losing side earn a tiny bit of standings, and probably needs another increase in LP payouts. Not matter which approach it taken, pubs and FW are deficient in rewards and something needs to be done about it.
*: and I don't mean more f*****g strongboxes. Enough with the strongboxes!

You mention lag and hit detection, as well as clunky controls or words to that effect. Both are solid points that seem key but I am surprised that you have not mentioned game performance and optimisations, as they too are some of the biggest problems people talk about.

those three things are the primary issue as far as game performance and optimization goes. the lag affects framerate, the hit detection is affected by framerate and lag, and the controls restrict the player's ability to compensate for these handicaps by being better than his opponent.
when people talk about performance and optimization, when you read their posts you see "crappy controls" or "lousy hit detection" or "poor FPS" or "insurmountable lag."
The frames per second are heavily affected by lag.

Alot of people say that us Vet's look at Chromosome with starry eyes only seeing the good of the patch and not the bads.
We remember and full well know what the bads where of an Open Beta for DUST 514...
What Made Chromosome magical was that there was some consistency in competition.
Meaning two decent players could fight against each other and it didn't feel like for either side that the games inconsistency decided the victor.
When you died or lost in Chromosome.. Not very often did it feel like it was directly attributed to poor game performance.
There was consistency in competition between mercenaries. That is gone.
You feel you die to poor mechanics consistently in DUST 514 of today . This absolutely RUINS immersion... it RUINS game enjoyability.. And when you spend a decent day of playing DUST your collection of poor experiences with game performance just leaves you full of disdain.
DUST has AMAZING content, AMAZING concepts... But the worst inconsistent core mechanics to a FPS game I Have played.

The question I really wanna know even if its a vague answer..
Is the current CCP Dust crew even able to fix the quality of life stuff ? It seems to me they just want to add features and post lvl content to continue to bring in Aurum sales before end of life...
Because honestly I think a real "Quality of life improvement" would be moving Dust/Legion to a "Nextgen system".
Although as interviews have already stated Dust is not going to be ported to the PS4, so where do we really stand on quality of life improvements because we as a PS3 Dust community have a shelf life.. |

Our biggest complaints back then were legitimitate dropsuit and weapon balancing issues. Back when the assault rifle was laser beam accurate and 100% lethal at long range, in excess of 110m (because of the Sharpshooter skill); and Laser Rifles fried everything, damage profiles be damned.
But issues like poor sensitivity and bad controls have always been with us. Too many times have people left the game, then came back to say, "They STILL haven't fixed the controls?" "The sensitivity is STILL this bad?"
We have better weapon balancing than we have ever had before, but core gameplay like sensitivity for ds3, and proper acceleration for kb/m STILL have not been implemented
Priorities are still backwards. Why are we installing fancy hot tubs in a condemned house?

Agree completely Breakin.
Rattati is dressing DUST up in layers of pretty clothes and perfumes, but none of that can hide the smell of rot that comes from underneath.
I smell it every time i load into a match. Pretty sure CCP smells it too, hence the pretty clothes and perfume.
It's slowly, surely making the game unplayable for me. Looking at the concurrent player graphs i can tell that other players are bothered by the smells of rot and perfume as well.
Do you think you can fool peeps, CCP?

This has long been resolved conclusively. The root cause of all the control issues is low framerates. Low framerates in DUST are not caused by network lag (which is almost impossible, and not something Unreal Engine is known for), nor by CCP being entirely incompetent, but by Unreal Engine running extremely poorly on the unique PS3 architecture.
To fix this, aside from drastically reducing world detail (which is unlikely to happen), a major rework of Unreal Engine would be required, and considering that PS3 is near the end of its life cycle and that this work would be completely useless for any other platform, we can safely assume that CCP will never make this significant investment.
In other words no, DUST will never run significantly better on the PS3 than it does today. It's useless to press CCP for answers because they can't give any. They (and us) can only make the best of DUST on PS3 while it lasts, and look forward to a better future on another platform (read: PC). |

I honestly dont care too much about new features if we dont have these mechanic fixed.
I'll put it this way. When I started the game I made it my quest to make every gun at prototype, and the be the first to do it. 40mil SP later I finally accomplished that feat and to my knowledge was the first and only to do it. Go me. Anyway, as a sacrifice, my gun skills were low and so were my core skills. So I bit the bullet, respec'd, maxed all core skills, maxed 4 weapons with 3 others halfway there, got similar fittings and oh my God. I've loved the game so much more from that point onwards.
You see, I built all fancy things ontop of foundations that limited my ability. But once I went back and fixed it, the end result was phenomanally superior.
Theres a reason my first line of my signature is as it is.
