Right now it is in a weird place. It's suppose to be the best Rifle for CQC, but in all honesty ties with all the other rifles. The top Rifles for CQC are the CR, ACR, BAR and ARR. At least that is the way I see it. At best I think it is tied with the ASCR, but the ASCR is still stronger in CQC because of its EXTREMELY low dispersion and low recoil while hip firing.
Right now I don't fear having to fight an AR in CQC. That's a problem. I don't fear it because I know that it has wide dispersion.
I fear all the other Assault variants, but not the weapon they are copying. I can't help feeling that this is wrong.

Welcome to my life. Every other Assault Rifle variant has improved tenfold since the dark ages but the Vanilla AR is still very close to what it was back then.
It's better yeah, but other rifles perform way too close to its intended racial role and more it's not really worth it.
Maybe if we made the optimal range longer but with immediate maximum range to where there's no falloff then maybe it was be good and balanced.
I always thought the best balance to the previous breach would just to greatly decrease its falloff range.
CCP holds the Caldari's hand so this doesn't happen again.

AScR is in the weirdest place. It is the worst rifle of all of the rifles to use at range, by far. Even the AR is better... Anywhere past 30m just becomes silly because of the shaking. Its practically impossible to track someone in combat with that crap.
When I'm using my AScR, I find myself switching to my SMG for mid range combat.

I've fallen a bit back in love with the original AR on a Gallente assault. I find the tight hipfire to really extend the range of the weapon and combined with not slowing it down with ferroscale allows you to strafe at rather long distances fooling a lot of folks into getting into a firefight they lose. That's the fit I've been playing around with recently, and it's been pretty effective...

ScR's wreck armor faster than RR's, in my opinion, or atleast ties for armor wreckage. Which is pretty absurd since it's a shield weapon.
I hope we don't buff these rifles back to short ttk insta-kill days. They all wreck everything currently, and I must agree that really small tweaks are better than super buff/nerfs right now.

The AR id in a fine place but still out performed by the BrAR.
If you are an Armor based suit (Gallente and Amarr) and your opponent is using an ACR, CR, ARR in another armor based suit, of course you will loose. Not much for the AR being outperformed if not because the AR is an anti-shield weapon and you are using it against an armored oponent while your opponent is using anti armor weapons.
Unless you are using the BrAR. That thing is just too powerful.

The strength of the AR is just sustained damage. 70 clip size ain't no joke.
Problem is that in CQC you need raw damage, otherwise you won't last long enough to unload the clip. Engagements are the shortest because weapons are dealing their max damage, so raw power is needed.

CQC isn't face to face shotgun range when referring to rifles. If you're in the building with it trying to out shoot heavies you're wrong. It's good for quick strike flanking in my opinion. If I need to I can go in the building if needed. That's what I love about the AR. Multi-purpose!
Not trying to win any 1v1's with any ScR's. Take his shields, and get the assist. The standard AR can take on multiple targets in an area forcing all to take cover. It gets your guys closer to the target, but also has the ability to finish guys if they're careless. As it is a shield weapon I don't try to engage amarr or gal heavies head to head in close quarter's. Flanking snipers, added dps, taking shields and shielded enemies out, and suppressive fire is what it's really good for.
For actual fight finishing power I would suggest some Tac and burst AR practice. Now those can drop you where you stand, but I find that it does take some getting used to. You need a good sidearm and a flanking position for sure. The burst is a great go between for hipfire, range, and CQC.

AR is fine, just alot of people are still mainly armor tanking and it gets a noticeable penalty against armor.
you have a sidearm though, switch to flaylock or SMG once shields are gone. |

The ACR is the most abused rifle besides the RR. The AcR has low range and easily out-ranged by the AR and all other light weapons. The fact I was getting hit by a MD and I could not return fire do to range is BS. So no the AR is not underwhelming.

I really don't see any problem with the current AR, hell I used it in PC for 5 months straight til 1.1 and I've never felt it sucked compared to ACR and ARR, and it didn't have all the buffs yet.
On a sidenote you can confirm it's not underperforming by seeing a lot of minmatar assaults running it instead of the ACR and beasting with it.

When I'm using my AScR, I find myself switching to my SMG for mid range combat. Fizzer, it's all visual none of that recoil is real. Or in actuality it is real but the sight comes back to its starting point do fast that it serves no purpose outside of confounding people like you who try to fight the recoil.
