Um... Valkyrie's in more direct competition with Star Citizen than Legion is. o_o
No! You got that wrong here, StarCitizen is more like EVE Online, Valkyrie, and Dust 514 combined. It offers the big capital ship fleets, sure not as massive as EVE ones, but still. All of the trading, mining, pirating, economy stuff, etc. Its got the little fighters, so Valkyrie, AND its got the FPS aspect on the ground, on space stations, and on board of ships!
Of-course you can argue StarCitizen is not even out yet, and its all for most part on paper. But at-least thats what the concept is. Only big difference between the EVE universe and StarCitizen universe is that EVE is mostly player influenced (which I prefer btw), StarCitizen is going to be 90% NPC, and 10% player driven. |

The funny thing about concepts... is they look nice on paper and in scripted non completed demo's but are a totally different animal when deployed. I'm betting 90% of what people think SC will be, will be gutted. And SC is instanced, sharded, mess.
EVE is not. *shrugs*
I totally agree with you here. And Dust 514 would be the PERFECT example as to how concepts can look amazing, and then turn out half ass. And how demos and trailers can throw us off, CCP proved all of that. BUT, I will disagree with you when it comes to StarCitizen, with 68 Million dollars and counting, open development directly with the fans, its hard to fail. Also, everything they promised so far, from hangars, to the Arena Commander module, they've delivered on.
You're right about SC being instanced tho, they just simply can't have everyone be anywhere at the same time, CryEngine limitations, especially with the level of fidelity they're going after. But, in-case you didn't know, the universe WILL be persistent, so if you find a jump point, or if you kill this badass NPC pirate, or claim a piece of territory, it will be YOU and just you who did it. That NPC won't respawn, that territory won't be there for others to capture, etc.

Soraya Xel wrote:SuperMido, personal opinion, the FPS gameplay won't be the core of it. Hopefully it'll be solid, I'll probably be playing it, but I'm not expecting it to blow away dedicated FPSes either.
That's true, FPS is not the core of the game, they're classifying SC as a First Person Universe, but more because everything outside of your ship will be handled in FP mode. Will see how it turns out eventually, and as far the FPS part is concerned, that module will be released very soon, within a couple of months.
I'm excited for StarCitizen, and I love the approach the devs are taking with the open development. I wish if CCP was doing the same. Sure, I understand that CiG is forced to be open because the game is funded by fans. But still, I wish CCP would be a little more open with us.
