With Uprising 1.9, your Character will gain a Loyalty Rank based on your Lifetime Battles, Wins, War Points and Aurum spent.
However, some of us aren't happy with a simple description. We want to know exacts and specifics sometimes. Fortunately, Toadfox BlacKen, Cornelius, and myself set out to figure out the exact metrics that raise your Loyalty Rank.
Firstly, many people read the points as a total of how many Loyalty Points they have in total. This is not the case as it instead measures how many Loyalty Rank Points until your next rank. This means that the numeric given will go down as your reach your next rank, not the other way around.
2 Aurum = 1 Loyalty Rank Point(credit to Toadfox)
For example, Aurum spent on an item that cost 1,000 Aurum would grant you 500 Loyalty Rank points. Note that the text does say "purchasing Aurum", the actual purchase of the Aurum does not raise your Loyalty Rank. Only after spending the said Aurum will it contribute toward your Loyalty Rank.
Logging In = 5 Loyalty Rank Points
Pretty straight foward, when you login, you are awarded 5 points. This is logging in for the day; further consecutive logins during the same time period (between regular server downtime) will not increase it. Similar to the Daily Login Skillpoint bonus.
Fighting in a battle = 2 Loyalty Rank Points
When you fight in a battle from beginning to end, you are awarded 2 Loyalty Rank points. (We didn't test if you join in the middle of a battle; each time we tested, they were fresh battles.)
Winning the battle = +2 Loyalty Rank Points
This means, along with fighting in a battle, you can additionally earn 2 more Loyalty Rank points by winning the battle for your team for a total 4 Loyalty Rank points. (As above, this was tested in fresh battles and we haven't tested joining in the middle of a battle.)
Every 500 WP earned in battle = +1 Loyalty Rank Point
This means, on top of participating in a battle, you can further earn Loyalty Rank points.
Some examples:
275 WP = 0 Loyalty Rank Points
704 WP = 1 Loyalty Rank Points
1052 WP = 2 Loyalty Rank Points
(These are not arbitrary numbers and this exact amount of WPs were taken from the games I played. After subtracting for participation - and winning if applicable - Loyalty Rank point gains, it seems to grant you a Loyalty Rank point for every 500 WP milestone in a battle.)
Pretty easy and short guide, but hopefully this sheds some light on the Loyalty Ranks and how to further their Loyalty Ranks.
(As a small closing note, you may have heard some people, including myself, reference this as an "Aurum Bar". This is because of how heavily skewed this is toward a user who has purchased and used Aurum on this game.)

If anyone comes across other figures like how many Loyalty Points you get for buying a booster etc. that would be very beneficial to add as well.

Buying a booster would be the along the same lines as using Aurum. For example, if you purchased a 7-day Active Booster for 5,000 Aurum, you would receive 2,500 Loyalty Rank points.

I'll see what I can do, but I haven't invested heavily into Warbarges so I still have a Level 1 Warbarge with a Level 1 Mobile Factory. The Warbarge is something I see I'll be able to max out eventually without having to spend Aurum on it. I'm a patient guy. 
That said, if a Warbarge guide doesn't appear soon, I'll whip one up.

No, those are points towards the faction loyalty store, not loyalty ranks.

Because, either the Loyalty gain is bugging,

Just a quick update, Loyalty Rank Points are not being given anymore due to a big that has popped up today. This means Loyalty Ranks are frozen at the moment.

The effect of AUR was fairly easy to figure out. I am glad someone went to the effort to figure out some of the other factors that effect Loyalty Rank.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

I know alot of people (myself included) thought it was bogus that the only practical way to boost loyalty ranks was through buying AU (sure as pointed out above you got points for SPENDING it, but the only way to get it TO spend was to buy it) but with Warlords 1.1 when they start handing out the daily AU bonus (and with the Triathalon event getting it for certain daily missions, hopefully that means that bonus AU will enter the rewards rotation even afterwards) this rule now makes more sense, since we'll be able to earn AU for free.
There is no joy like plasma blasting a guy in the face during the middle of his dramatic monologue.

Contrary to my previous report,
as of Warlords 1.2 (just before hotfix foxfour)
Rank is no longer accumulated thru spending AUR.
It is now thru buying AUR.
(confirmed by my two alt accounts to whom I bought elite packs when they were at discount. Both instantly hit L6 if I recall correctly)

Recently, there were reports of Character Loyalty Ranks being lost (points shown actually INCREASING instead of DECREASING), so I decided to put it to the test. Here are my findings:
First, I used two characters that I already have. My main character, Kaze Eyrou, and a quickly made alt.
Kaze Eyrou Loyalty Points:
4 Oct: 248,025 to go
5 Oct: 248,025 to go
6 Oct: 248,020 to go
7 Oct: 248,015 to go
8 Oct: 247,982 to go (I had played some matches the preceding day)
9 Oct: 247,955 to go
Alt Loyalty Rank:
4 Oct: 280,333 to go
5 Oct: N/A (Control Variable)
6 Oct: N/A (Control Variable)
7 Oct: 280,333 to go
8 Oct: N/A (Control Variable)
9 Oct: 280,333 to go
As you can see, even if you miss a day, YOUR CHARACTER LOYALTY RANK WILL NOT DROP (increase points shown) BY 250 POINTS. If this happens, this is most likely a UI bug. If you have taken pictures of it and there was a discrepancy, please FILE A SUPPORT TICKET to have them look at your account.

Highly theoretical progression of LRP required per rank:
Rank 15: ~6 million
Rank 14: ~3 million
Rank 13: ~1.5 million
Rank 12: ~750,000
Rank 11: ~325,000
Rank 10: ~150,000
Rank 9: ~75,000
Rank 8: ~38,000
Rank 7: ~19,000
Rank 6: ~9,000
Rank 5: ~5000
Rank 4: ~2500
Rank 3: ~1250
Rank 2: ~500
Rank 1: ~250
Really rough numbers but it appears to follow a rough progression of doubling every rank.
I've got confirmed numbers for a few of the higher ranks but if anyone has data that doesn't fit this model, please speak up.
Fun fact, by the way: This would suggest that to reach LR 15 you need to spend approximately -ú10,000.

Getting reports of more people experiencing Loyalty Rank fluctuation. I will update this post and put it down as a "plausible" bug, meaning that this may or may not affect your character.
Should it affect your character, please document it with numbers and/or pictures and file a ticket with CCP to have them look into your character.

I have a 4 mil Sp alt and it's at same Loualty Rank as my Main. So guess it doesn't matter as far as SP amounts,
any alt on that account is same Loyalty Rank
