Hardeners are only aids in escape from AV. The problem with tank v AV is there are too many variables. The mistake CCP made is using a 1 tank v 1 AVer scenario. They didn't accountil for whole squads going AV on their next spawn.
The fact that they double nerfed tanks simply to quiet forum complaining. They should've buffed AV, and left tanks be. The small adjustments they used on everything else wasn't afforded to tanks. We got the nerf sword instead of the bat lol! If they had gradually brought individual parts of the tanking aspect down gradually as they gradually buffed AV to match the changes to dropships it wouldn't look so one sided for either side.
The problem seems to me that rattati is swamped with all sorts of complaining from different areas of the battlefield, and they quick fixed AV/tank/ADS to buy themselves working room for light weapon balancing work. Seems they're short handed, and can't find time to work on AV/tank/ADS. It was insta-fixed with no follow-up adjustments. Isn't that a little strange?
Let's talk about AV/tank/ADS for just a second shall we. You may ask why I put them in the same category? Well it should be obvious as they attack each other in a bit of a cycle all day long. You can't balance swarms v tanks, swarms v ADS, and vice versa seperately, but that is what was done. In trying to get swarms to kill ADS better they buffed them into god mode against tanks inadvertently. Nevermind the effectiveness of the Plasma cannon, AV nades, remotes, proxies, etc. All of this effects tanks primarily before the swarm buff that didn't effect dropships nearly at all.
Sure 80GJ blasters were too much on infantry. I still say if you want to kill infantry add a 20GJ blaster. I would however agree that at 20 meters a 80GJ blaster should kill infantry with decent accuracy. Shorten it's effective range against infantry. The further away the more dispersion it should have. Blaster tech is inherently short range is it not?
As far as tanks v AV goes with AV you must include ALL AV weapons. The PLC, nades, swarms, remores, and proxies. Then you must include the very effective ADS. When adding these to the equation you can see why tanks need better defenses. Hardeners, and the useless shield booster, isn't enough. There is no cover from swarms as they bend corners at 90-¦! They follow low terrain without striking it, and slide right oover into the tank no matter what route you take. At the first sign of them you either run or explode.
Side note: while we're on the subject can you (CCP) please extend the reach of the supply depot for tanks? It works great for infantry, but poorly for tanks. If it's so much as 1 ft in elevation above my tank I gain no rounds. I practically have to be on top of it.
I think bringing proto tanks into the picture would be good with how strong AV is currently. I'm just afraid CCP will do it half-cocked?! If they don't use ALL variables when balancing vehicles (dropships, LAV's, and tanks) v AV (PLC, swarm, explosives, and nades) the proto tanks will come out too strong, and be nerfed?! |
