I just don't think it's fair that they are forced to play in very weak suits against some of the top dogs and if we made the Academy longer it would drive most of the fluff players in the matches, who are really just there to die, into lobby's that are pure militia and make matchmaking WAY longer. CCP knows this, that's why they won't do it, and it's also a matter of time till all the fluff players leave and the daily player count will max at only 20k a day, like it's already starting to. The game is dying and this small effort, that may not even mean much, is just to try to keep Dust breathing longer. The daily player count for dust is no where near 20k. Those are EVE players. Dust only gets 3-4k players per day. That's bullshit, those numbers are peak concurrent, meaning the peak amount of people playing at one point in the day. Plenty of people log on and off in a 24 hour span. I would estimate anywhere from 15-20k people play this game daily.

This way, players learn as they progress rather than just have everything served to them on a silver platter.
I agree in the idea that it is more about matchmaking than boosting or fittings. I've mentioned in another thread that the fact that there are different levels of players and fittings on the battlefield is what gives Dust its character as a game. Losing this battlefield mix will, in my opinion, be detrimental to the game as a whole.
The secret, again in my opinion, is to make sure that the teams are balanced across the board which they clearly aren't always at the moment. The number of variables involved make this very difficult in this game though. Better suits will always do better but that doesn't mean militia gear should simply be ignored in the game.
No one likes a stomp, on either team, but restricting fittings etc isn't the way to fix this. If strict meta levels are introduced you won't ever see people with lower meta fittings in higher meta matches as no one would be dumb enough to potentially be the only STD suit in a PRO match and you are rapidly heading towards the point where you may as well do away with the tiers and progression and just stick everyone in the same lightly customisable suit from the get go. It's just not as interesting overall. At the moment you go in with what you have and do your best with what's put in front of you. I personally like this, as deeply frustrating and depressing as it can be.
NPE does need work still because being thrown into a FPS where there are other players that you are just not going to be able to kill is not what a lot of people expect and playing in a way that isn't necessarily running and gunning on the front line isn't something that people picking up a FPS want to do. DUST needs to help people play DUST not make DUST into a poorer version of the rest of the AAA shooters out there because it just can't compete.
Things like moving to an ISK destroyed vs. ISK lost mechanic over the standard K/D one cold help for example as new players in starter suits would potentially feel that they are doing better as they would have a good ratio because initially they wouldn't be loosing any ISK. Rebalancing war points so that lower meta suits get slightly more for killing a higher meta suit and higher slightly less for a lower meta kills etc might also help.
To be honest I don't really have the answers and maybe the simplest way is to just tier everything by meta but I just worry it's not the way to go. |

Interesting thought.
Reminds of an idea I'm sure some of us put forward ages ago along the lines of the certificates in EVE.
For those that may not know what certificates are (and assuming they're still part of EVE) they are something you earn once you've completed a pre-determined set of skills.
For example, there may be a set of certificates for Armor Tanking:
- STD Armor Tanking -- Dropsuit Armor Upgrades I -- Armor Plating I
- ADV Armor Tanking -- Dropsuit Armor Upgrades III -- Armor Plating III
- PRO -- etc
And perhaps a set of certificates for Armor Regeneration:
- STD Armor Regeneration -- Dropsuit Armor Upgrades I -- Armor Repair Systems I
- ADV Armor Regeneration -- Dropsuit Armor Upgrades III -- Armor Repair Systems III
etc...hopefully you get the idea.
Perhaps then what you could do is grant some leg-up NPE rewards or something that allow you to choose a few free certificates
You must learn honor, or you deserve to learn nothing at all.

A better recommendation would be to implement a version of Eve Online's ISIS (Interbus Ship Identification System) which gives new players a clear visual roadmap of what modules and skills are recommended for any given ship as well as a clearly defined role that each ship is meant for.

Kinda like the apex fittings give an idea of what they are meant for? I respeced my 2 scouts to follow the roadmap the apex suits defined. Well sort of Cal scout fully Gal scout I prefer Tac-ar over Shotgun. The other 3 scout have high ranged weapons why should the gal scout be any different.

Never give free SP for new players to use. If anything have the 10 mil go exclusively towards core skills, and even if they respec it stays core skills. People seem to constantly ignore something that will consistently help you in the long term...
Don't think about that, think about all the money.

Trust me, this will not help in the slightest.
I spent the first year of my Dust career doing nothing but restarting, and I still have not hit 10mil sp. I understand what it is like to have a huge disadvantage when it comes to gear. I know all too well.
Give the newbros more sp, and they will just lose more isk. Having proto isn't even a quarter of the battle. Gameplay knowledge and experience, map knowledge, and teamwork make up 90% of what is needed to win. Put 16 new guys in proto gear against 4 vets in basic gear, and the vets will probably win, if not at least come close to winning.
Giving players this sp off the bat also ruins the feeling of actually earning your gear. I hated my character after the million clone challenge, because I jumped from basic gear to advanced without doing any work.
You also stated that this would lead to more respec purchases due to new players making mistakes in there skill choices, but this just enforces the creation of alts. Coaxing a new player to have to make purchases right away is a good way to lose some new player as well.
Dust is a free game, and most free games are pay to win. We don't want newbros thinking that this is just another pay to win game, we want them to realize that they can earn their way into a position where they can stand up against the same people who protostomped them in the past.
To summarize, having new players start at higher sp amounts will only cause more distress and problems than it will fix.
Hopefully some people understand where I am coming from, and can see why this is not a good idea.
Sincerely, Glantix / Ice, o7

Geo Esp wrote:Bring up anyone who has the game for at least a month to 10mil sp.
I don't think that the problem is pubstompers, I think it's militia suits fighting guys in Pro gear.
Pros: - More active players everyday, since they won't die as much and stay longer - Less pubstomping since the people who originally fought in militia gear can now put up a fight - A challenge to Vets - More Corps and More PC/ More People who can participate in PC since they have good gear now - A smaller chance of one sided FW games, no more militia in FW - More players to recruit into corps - New players who get this sp won't be able to run pure proto since they probably have little ISK - More sales in sp restarts since a bunch of people will probably not be satisfied in what they skilled in after a week or to try out other play styles
I can't think of any con's rather than someone making a bunch of alt's and getting a bunch of 10mil sp accounts so how bout any account made before December gets it
Why 10mil sp? I have an alt with that much and it's perfect to put up a fight with anyone Give me 10 mil more sp thrn its ok

10mill sp sounds reasonable, the game seems too easy for those with already established characters and teams, while others cant even play or hope to attempt win as most of your team is composed of militia tin cans. |

Assuming of course that this isn't what CCP is intending for Dust 514 at this point. They've made no commitments to what kind of game they're trying to make, so providing feedback for or against it being anything is sort of flawed.
For all we know this could be the most tactical/strategic lobby shooter in the history of gaming.

I disagree with 10 million that's a free proto suit to start with
2.5 mill -5 mill max ..and if they do this whatever number they decide all existing mercs should get the difference
And new mercs should start at that sp level to begin ..
I do think 500 k sp is to little
but 10 mill is way to much

While I sympathize with the OP I believe a better solution would be to hotrack new characters with 3 125% active and passive skill boosters for three months. That way they earn SP faster to ease into the game and they have the option of buying full power boosters if they wish.
