I feel as if Commandos are the least useful and most gimmicky suit in the game. No competitive value against good players and a place that people that ran out of things to skill in go to burn their ISK. They have low HP, no EWAR despite their namesake and no speed despite their name sake. They are about as useful as a Militia Minmatar Scout with a breach Flaylock Pistol and no modules.
Am I wrong?

The problem is that they are heavy suits with heavy hit boxes but with the HP of Scouts.

Respectuflly, yes you are wrong. After the aurum respecs were made available I respecced into the Minmatar Commando and love it. I have two fits - CR/Swarm and CR/MD. High ground or LAV make this a deadly combo, able to stand my ground against all comers one on one, and often 2 or 3 on 1.
To be honest as with any suit, it's really about playing to your skill set and playing to the advantages of the suit. My suit has about 1000 HP so it sits perfectly between Sentinel and Assault suits. With an LAV, I can hunt down any HAV on the field, and stand a 50% shot at killing it before it gets away - great pilots do better, poor pilots do worse.
When I use the MD fit, I find I can dictate the engagements just fine - open fields are the challenge, but I am used to shield tanking which requires cover near by. If you stick to areas where there is cover, you can do great even against multiple hostiles. Pop your head out to take them down with the CR, if they push you back, use the MD's AOE to keep them back as your shields/armor come back up - you'll even net some kills.
In the open field it's a little harder, but as long as you are paying attention you can use the CR to control the range - at further distances you don't have to move a lot to successfully strafe - high strafe speed is needed in CQC, not mid range fights. Also, the MD shines here as well, making the reds dance to avoid the AOE.
I can't speak for the other Commando suits - I'm a Minmatar boy at heart - always will be. I will eventually get into the other suits but for now I'm happy with this one.

All of them are good except the Amarr Commando. I mean, who would take more damage over longer shooting; a gimmick that the Laser Rifle uses. Longer shooting on AScR and ScR is just nicer than more damage. Plus You can stack 3 damage mods to make up for damage. Compared to other roles, they are weak due to the slots and hp. Or maybe it's kind of like the scout where it gets better at level 4 where it could actually use the cloak.

Amarr is bad because the laser is still in CCP's nerf jail for what it did nearly a year ago...
With the SCR? and a logi at it's back? It's deadly Walk into groups of people and mow them down tanking them long enough to kill them.. Just needs that crazy long range laser and it will be a very effective niche suit.
The Gallente.... How can you explain the problems around the PLC and suit combo. the day they went over the concept of this suit was obviously a Tuesday morning after a long weekend of binge drinking.
"Hey guys I know!!!!! A Slow armored up Heavy Gallente suit with a one shot shield damage based weapon. I't makes perrrrrfect sense."
But it's fun as helll.. So i reserve that they where stoned.

Other Commandos

Caldari: -Good light weapons (only in range) -Rail Rifle -Regular-OK ranged weapon mostly good for suppression/ open field combat -Assault-OK in close range, better in mid range -Sniper Rifle-Good in long range and for pinging people from afar This commando is the long range specialist. High ground is your friend, and if caught in CQC situations, most of the time the battle will be lost.
Why is the Minmando superior? -Best mobility -Good regen for HP -Rediculously great weapon versatility -Can be used as a Super Slayer with CR+MD or a master of AV+AI at the same time with SL+CR
Self sustainability is where the Minmando is great. It's how the Commandos are supposed to be.

Like people say the Min is great , had it maxed ... along with MD's , Swarms and CR's of course .

Amarr is good , one could do a lot with the slots ... much like the Gal but there weapons like someone mentioned earlier , leaves them to be situational . Had Plasma Rifles maxed before along with LR and Scramblers which are all assault rifles . You could use swarms or sniper rifles along with Plasma Cannons but again , these weapons are situational and more for assaulting and with there slow speed , large hit boxes and mediocre stamina ... leaves them wanting . Can't take advantage of any e-war with any of the Commando's . I use to triple complex damp my Amarr Commando to snipe with and I think the lowest I could get is somewhere around 24 .

Caldari is like Min where it is adaptable with it's damage output but having only one low doesn't give it much room for it to play outside the box of being the damage administrator that it is by having the most highs . E-war on that would be useless .
What they need is a mixture of things to me , a grenade slot would be useful .
Might not like the idea but it would help but if not that then maybe two eq slots , could give them some flex ability but they could use greater stamina and stamina rep and lower signature's or just better e-war stats as far as seeing and not being seen but then how could one justify there hit boxes or how that would effect Assaults .
It's kind of a hard suit to help stand out without nerfing or buffing another class in some way .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

The only time I like the Commando is when I don't know what role will be needed. I can run a RR for long range and a CR for closer, or have swarms and still run a CR but mostly I use it with my MD.

minmatar is nice for obvious reasons.
gallente isnt bad either, you can play it as an assault with bigger hitbox (dual rep with kincat, tripple rep, or single rep with double kincats). the shotgun plus damage bonus destroys everything if you fight at objectives and chokes. |

I have 3 out of 4 commandos and I can tell you without a doubt they suck. I can do more with an assault and die less. Having the same body and hit box of a heavy is asinine. The commando needs major rework. They are fun for a week then they get old. I thought it was one type, no it is all of them. Some like the Mimando but I do not even feel like trying to skill into it. I went mim assault and it is by far the best assault suit.
Can the other voices in other peoples minds hear my voices in my head????

one of the biggest misconceptions in this game is the one that says commandos are AV gods. The average difference in damage between a commando and assault runs about 40-60 points of damage. Not enough to make any difference in Time to Kill because shots to kill is identical.
EVE Online is what you get when engineers attempt to create "fun" without consulting someone who comprehends the word.

In the case of the amarr and the gallente, their respective assaults do about 1-2% more dmg if triple-stacking damage mods, this is *before* the performance buffs that the assaults get.
That said it *is* nice to carry an av weapon alongside a rifle and there's a lot of utility to be found there, but ccp screwed up hard with the ewar nerf.
Honestly I'd like to see commandos lose some base stats and get 2-3 more slots, simply because with so few slots you operate largely on what your suit has for base stats. Also swarm 'bonus' on min needs to go, that **** is really throwing av out of whack (hurr 25% extra damage on swarms before proficiency!). Gallente can keep plc bonus though.

keyword: assistance. Having some area effect splash weapons raining down on reds in a firefight is very useful. Otherwise, extra fire power would always be useful

Well, i was running yesterday with the Calmando them last few matches. I did ''Ok'' (like 15-3). But still lacking as i was usually the proto one.
Using a Proto Anything else (except logi) wouls grant me at least 25 kills against randoms.
I say, Give This to commandos:
+0.4 SPeed +0.5 Movement speed +1 Slot (Cal +1 Low, All the rest 1 High)
AND: CAl : Shield recharge rate changed to 30Per sec Min:Increased stamina Regen +15 and base stamina by 30 GAl: +2 Armor rep per sec Amarr:+50 Armor
LOL im out before the burns...
