If you have that mistrust in a person to send the item of question to and expecting isk back maybe you should invest in a broker there are quite of few of those around heck I think ChibbaX would reprise his most vaunted role from Eve side.

or you can try to be constructive and make player trading the best it can be, instead of being a d1ck. yet again i ask how in duh fukk did you get re-elected.

pretty f'n simple to me I see no room for scamming here so you have it all wrong. That is unless merc x can quickly cancel the order and remove their items and then quickly accept right?. What if merc x could just shoot the merc that is trading with them?.
You can still sell your officsr gear for 4x market value, then buy 4 more officer guna and repeat.
you can still give a noob 1000 Mlt SMGs for 5 million Isk.

Having it just be 'send item' would be a terrible thing. Sure scamming is a thing in New Eden, but making it this easy is pretty silly. Requiring players to go through brokers for just sending single items will create a huge logistical burden on the community.
Heck, even the Eve window of direct trading can be scammed but at least it takes a bit more effort. Dust has sorely needed a player market in order for many subsystems to actually work. Seems like a shame for the first implementation of trading to be so bare bones.

Simply have it operate liek the EVE online Contracts
i goto my Market section goto contracts and click 'Create Contract'
it brings a box up where i can select which person the contract is for either from contacts or by typing (like sendng mail)
i click a drop down menu which asks how long contract stays acvtive. 1, 3, 7 or 30days
i click the box underneath which opens up a simplified view of my assets list.
i click an asset and the 'quantity' box comes up asking how many of an item to add to contract. i clcik ok.
if i require ISK for th eitems i click the box below which says 'i will receive..' and i type in amount i'm selling for.
if i'm adding isk as well as the items i click 'i will pay...' and type in my amount.
i hit create and there you go, a private contract. the items and isk are removed from your char and await collection
now on the other end, when the person logs in they receive a notification on their welcome screen that they have a contract waiting for them, they either click it or goto contracts and click 'notifications'
check the awaiting contracts.
check the tiems, isk to pay, isk to receive is correct,
click accept and the isk is taken/added to you wallet and items added to your assets
