Hi there! Just a quick message to tell CCP that the new exchange deature we'll have in february will have to be done in a way that prevent scams. Not just a "Send a stuff to the player" button.
Look at other MMO, both parts have to agree the trading otherwise it is canceled^^
We've been waiting for this for a long time, don't waste this tool please ^^

I think large transactions should be frozen for 1 hour (or longer if the transaction is a very large one), in which time either player can cancel the trade. This will give players time to realize they've been scammed and take it back.
Perhaps a security fee could be paid to wave the waiting period.
High ranking FW players could also have the perk of waving that fee for free among fellow soldiers

I see no room for scamming here so you have it all wrong.
That is unless merc x can quickly cancel the order and remove their items and then quickly accept right?.
What if merc x could just shoot the merc that is trading with them?.

Personally I am hoping they just copy the station trade functionality from Eve in some way.
Open trade window > select items > select isk > both players agree > trade complete.
OR maybe the contract system.
Player 1 selects character and hits create contract then selects the items and isk price. Player 2 receives mail and has the option to accept contract. Contract options include isk given, isk received, items given, and items received so that the person on either side of the deal can create the contract.
The station trade option would be far better in the long run. I am only curious on the mechanics of any of this since we are mostly in different stations and nothing on tranquility is built for cross station trades and item inventory being teleported from station to station. It seems that no matter what the Eve team is going to have to get involved which worries me on the time frame. This is just another reason I always felt like Dust should have been on a separate server with simple API interactions to handle the links between the two. Running two games on two different platforms from the same base server cluster was a bit over ambitious to say the least. |

Brokers exist where incompetence in programming exists. If CCP gets it right the first time, we won't need "Trusted" Brokers. Does it add more depth? Sure... but players could RP that **** anyways... no one is stopping 3 people from pretending Dust is Mos Eisley even without a trading system.
The power of imagination! It's only lame when the player base has to pretend with the rpers due again to incompetence in game design. I've seen it in MMO's before especially some of the text based ones. Those Devs had the excuse of being one man teams with very minimal programming knowledge. I would hope after over a decade of developing EVE CCP can get it right the first time. |

Um, scamming is something entirely different to what some of the people in this thread seem to think it is. Scamming is not trading and then switching it at the last moment, that's simply theft; scamming is convincing someone that the item they are selling is worth far more than it's actually worth; or convincing them to trust them to take the money and give them the item later.
Scamming is entirely possible with the trade window notion, you just seem to have a dumb idea of what scamming is. Scamming actually takes a mild amount of skill at its base level. Look at Con Artists; they don't sell you something worth a damn then take it away, they trick you into thinking they have something valuable that you want.

Runescape item trade scams would disagree with you. Scamming is a broad term, and really just means a misrepresentation of the terms agreed upon between two parties, however that misrepresentation may occur. |

When asserting a tautology (In this case that a scam can't be implemented through a trading system) only one example is necessary to prove the assertion false. |

Right because two people agreeing on a trade and then one person running off with it all isn't a scam........

I didn't create this thread to talk about scam techniques.
It is meant to lead CCP in the golden path :3
How I see trades working: 1 and 2 are players -1 ask for trade -2 comfirm -1 and 2 both put a price/item/whatever in the trade window -1 and 2 accept the deal. -end of the trade.
Assault, Logi, Scout, Heavy.. What do you need?

Nobody said anything about item sending needing agreement of isk exchanging.
It is what it is; sending an item.
which is no different from sending isk to another player either.
If you have that mistrust in a person to send the item of question to and expecting isk back maybe you should invest in a broker there are quite of few of those around heck I think ChibbaX would reprise his most vaunted role from Eve side.

Ho c'mon they still have 2months to program a proper item/isk trade window!
Why doing half the job when you could without much more coding do something way better ?
You must do something IWS. Trades in MMO are the most basic things. And all of them gives a proper exchange system. |
