Alright, so its been a bit since the patch, Ive played a bunch, and Ive decided to compile a list of who benefited from it and for whom it was detrimental. Im going to try to be as inclusive as possible, but if miss any examples of benefit/detriment, let me know.
-ADS (winner): The changes has reduced the number of forge gunners present on alot of maps, and consequently, this has resulted in more ADS ships buzzing around. Before, forge gunners on roofs or among infantry on the ground harried the ADS enough to keep it jittery and focused on hit and run. Now, often, the only choice a bandwidth beholden user has is a single swarm or a PLC, neither of which scares the ADS like a forge does.
-AV (loser): In addition to losing forge gunning capacity, the bandwidth on remotes has also curtailed their use against vehicles. i see much more tanks out now. in some games, they even do what looks like "racing" like that the LAVs used to do. Fact is, a dedicated AV person cant put out proxy remotes and then switch to Forge. Even Scouts, which were being used in a light AV role before, have been curtailed by the bandwidth constraints when attacking using remote mines.
-Spammers (winner): Since the changes, there is perhaps a little less nanohive/triage nanohive spam, but still plenty of uplink spam at ground level around objective, and the equipment gathered around the underground supply depot can still be heard from the distance. Because the two favorite outfits of the slayer, the Assault and scout, are able to drop some equipment, its possible to drop proto links/hives with a pro assault and then switch to an Apex one. Or pro assault with scanner switches to pro assault with links, drops them, switches back to pro assault with scanner, ect/
-Rooftop uplinks (loser): While still around, they are not around as much as before, and no longer enjoy the impunity or even fortress like status that it had before. (if a team of snipers and Forgegunenrs were up there, it was impenetrable without an OB strike). Now roofs have less defense, more threat, and require more frequent revisits to keep it in service.
-Heavies: (winner): Some logis feel that they have no choice but to repair heavies all game. While thats not the case for everyone, there has been a increase of logi following heavy. Especially now that the system is set so that people with APEX/FW logis can deploy equipment in a ADV suit and switch to the Apex suit. All the Apex logis are good for heavy support, especially the 2 most popular, (Shaman/Chiron), so overall, this has been a good move for heavies.
-New players: (loser): Logis that have been playing for awhile know how to adapt. Before the update launched, I was sitting on 127,000LP Gal waiting to see what the damage would be. After the patch, i concluded that id go with the Chiron logi instead of the Centurion commando I had my sight set on for the longest time. But a new player doesn't have that luxury, and also might not be doing bandwidth calculations in their head as they play.
-Snipers (winner): With less "sniper nests" being created up high, there is much less risk for the snipers at the few ones that do exist. Combine that with the nerf to sniper rifle range and you have rival snipers that are covering the map but arent a threat to one another. I can be up in a nest and looking out into the enemy redline. i can see the guy. He can see me. But neither of us has the range, so we go back to shooting enemies near us knowing that the one guy prepared enough to counter me is out of reach.
So was the change for the better or for the worse? I guess it depends on who you are. i would suggest the following tweaks:
-Bandwidth meter on HUD (essential for new players) -10m interdiction zone around supply depot for equipment drops -2 min suit change cooldown timer at supply depot -Make all remote/proxy bandwidth 1mbps or even remove it from proxy mines.
Feel free to correct me or add your own suggestion! |

spam is almost extinct now. i don't know your experience but its never been better to be a logi. uplinks, hives always in constant use if used correctly. as for roof uplinks they were only ever needed as a counter to ground spam. as that is lower now these roof uplinks are needed much less.
you do still get organised teams who planned their equipment between them in order to get a nice spread of equipments but its far from the spam we have seen in the past.
new players will have no dire effects from bandwidth as they never had to not deal with not having it in the first place.
bandwidth has made all my equipment of use. i dont have to fight for space to use it anymore

Ecery game I was in last night still had uplink spam just as before and the team wasn't always the losing team.
The uplinks are still being put up high and glitched under stuff. Fracture Road is the worst.
Luckily I have moved mainly to ADS so I can remove some uplinks.

The triage Caldari Logistics has been nerfed directly. I can't lay out a full load of 6. Instead I have to switch to a Minmatar logi for laying out a triage station.

My only major gripe is the bandwidth cost of nanohives; it sucks that I can only place a combination of 3 triage/ammo nanohives at a time (while also giving up any uplinks that I may have placed previously.) Definitely noticed fewer uplinks in battle now, though.

I agree with most of the OP. I have also experienced more lag recently than ever before. I don't know if it is related to BW. I still see plenty of equipment spam, especially during stomps. I am playing logi more and it mostly involves repping.
AV is affected because I no longer will play forge and I am even reluctant to throw down a hive because the only uplibk my team has is mine. Rooftop camping still seems common.
BW isn't huge but I still think the better option was to remove the ability to switch suits at SD.
Because, that's why.

why would you lay out 6. why not lay them out 1 at a time when people actually need them or fit other equipment also. its not all about maximising the suit bonus. you don't see any mini logis running with 4 repair tools do you

I think the OP just proved BW was a good idea on paper but not much else.
I didn't even think of how it affects forge gunners
RE's and proxies should not have BW
It does cut down on some spam but as the OP pointed out, spamming uplinks still happens and is easy to do
It is very hard to spam nanohives however
Imo BW does a mediocre job of what it was intended to do and affects the game in other possibly unintended ways like having a steeper learning curve for new players
Would it have been easier to just make a max nano/uplink deployed limit ( ie: only two uplinks can be active per player)?

I dislike any swapping suit timer proposal.
We made it balanced by keeping the same hitpoint levels so people cannot just switch to a full hp heavy. That being said we must keep the ability to switch suits, a timer would really stifle gameplay.

" because he's prob doing it as a forward base in a high traffic area where troops are suppressing attacks and if that's the case then laying out multiple's are suggested .
Can't lay out hives if your dead and it might be the hives that keep the troops around alive long enough and staying in the fight .
I totally understand the formula Luk .

considering triage hives already have higher fitting cost (and isk cost?) I think its been an unfair nerf to give them a higher BW |

Must be me, but I never adapted my logi fits since chrome, and have no issues in regards to my equipment and play style. I still rack up 1-4k wps per match. Still got my rep and needle (may switch needle to scans from lack of revive opportunity's) allotek hives and stable uplink. I set up a link outside the area I plan on pushing, a hive closer to the obj, then rep and shoot to the obj and hack.
