This weapon is the most underrated weapon out there. The only thing negative about it is that the visual recoil is lethargic and so it does not "appear" to be accurate. Though, anyone who knows, knows not to fight the recoil.
Don't change the ASCR CCP! It is awesome!

It's underrated, but there's a excellent discussion of why it underperforms in Aeon's thread. IMO, it's mostly the stats being (only slightly) lackluster compared to other laser weaponry - but with the same drawbacks.
Plus a small component of the visuals (muzzle flash and phantom recoil) making it a little tricky to use.

Before you demand nothing be done give this a look.
Even if you could make it work, the data shows the ASCR has the largest penalty drawback of all the rifles. When the Proto rifle is worse than every ADV rifle there is a problem that needs to be addressed.
I say once you tweak the damage profile to a +/- 15%, buff ROF by 4%, the ASCR keeps the same damage vs shields you love, and does the nearly the same damage to armor as the combat rifle does to shields.

The true problem is there isn't a shield stacker out there on almost any battlefield for it to massacre, everyone stacks armor more than shields and can do so easily with just one complex armor plate over 2 complex shield extender, it's not so much the weapon but it is its environment

Also, let me set you straight.
I have the Scrambler Rifles, Scrambler Pistols and Amarr Assault to proto. I only have a basic tier one Gallente Assault and a proto AR I have lying around since last year.
What's that about me only caring about Gallante gear? I don't even use it a tenth of the time I play. When I use the AR it's usually on the Amarr or Minmatar Assault I have to proto.
So why don't you silence yourself. Spreading slander about my character is a very ignorant thing to do as it makes both of us look bad.

I could live with a very slight change, but the reason I love it is because it is an EXTREMELY precise weapon and has amazing hipfire. I don't want it to get buffed so much it becomes OP and then nerfed into ablivion. I'm a passionate user of this weapon who uses it regularly. So I'm trying to make my voice heard.

I would like the Proto ASCR to have its damage raised but that's a glitch not a buff.
The change would be -1.9 HP (from 580.4 to 578.5) damage per second less against shields but + 40.6 (386.9 to 427.6) damage per second vs armor.
Comapare that to the current Six Kin Assault Combat Rifle that does 602.5 dmg vs Armor and 426 vs Shield.
Could you live with this change?

Except its a feature of the Assault variant rifles to be a bit easier to use. They are they first weapons a new player will ever hold in their hands in most cases. Making them artificially difficult to use isn't helping new player retention at all. Remember than most newbros will be coming from games with simpler gameplay mechanics. Slapping them in the face with the complex mechanics of Dust, and a weapon that is deceptively difficult to use will just end up turning many people away. Its already enough that the weapon does overheat at all to confuse and frustrate some newbies.
The Shaking and Flashing needs to be reduced or removed in some combination. I'm not sure how much, but it needs it.

Then we must also reduce the mathematical effectiveness of the weapon because this obstruction is the only thing keeping the weapon in check.
Let us also note that many weapons in COD have this same recoil peculiarity. The Kalashnikov series of weapons exemplifies this visual recoil pattern albeit with a vertical bias rather than a horizontal bias. Yet, the AK's in COD are seen as some of the best weapons in the series among skilled and unskilled users.

Prove it, mate.
Prove that pretty much the only thing keeping the currently under-performing ASCR in check is something that is cosmetic.
I recommend using maths. Or spreadsheets. Or video comparisons. Something more than your mere word.
And never mind that making something visually less obnoxious does not equate to complete removal.

You could only test it through polling the player base pre patch and post patch. I doubt that CCP wishes to go through this complex process to make a suitable choice.

I use the ASCR. I find the visual effect obnoxious. Want to know what keeps me from getting a kill, 9 times out of ten, with my damage modded, 3 proficiency ASCR? The damage profile. I would say that the +20/-20 does a helluva lot more to keep the weapon from being OP than some cosmetic recoil.
Even still, it is entirely possible to alter the effect to be less obnoxious while also retaining any potential "visual balancing thingamabobs."
So I still say, make it less obnoxious. I want the act of firing to be more enjoyable.

I think the weapon is fine as is; the hipfire is excellent, the mag size is huge, the reserve ammo is plentiful, and it absolutely shreds shields in CQC due to the combination of full-auto and good hipfire.
The -20% to armor is the only thing keeping it from being op tbh. |
