Commandos need a buff or something extra as unique but both exciting AND useful flavour. I know dudes like Attim here will probably defend the Commando 'as is' however I am sure we can all agree that there is certainly room for improvement within the Commando class.

If the Commando had a "problem" it would probably be how specialized of a class they are. They really depend on the player having high amounts of SP in Cores to be truly effective. Basically, they seem like a ****** suit to anybody not at level 5 in EVERY module on the Commando. A solution to this "problem" would be to simply increase CPU/PG qualities to favor a lesser SP Merc. However, if you did this, higher SP Mercs like me could make some scary as **** OP as **** fits. I stand on the "Commandos are fine, leave them alone" part of the fence.

My idea has always been:
Light frame -Scout -Pilot
Med Frame -Assault (Balanced hp and damage; all around good suit) -Commando (Slightly more base tank than a scout, low fitting space, but huge buffs to weaponry)
Heavy (think Eve roles) -Sentinel (Dreadnaught; mostly unchanged) -Logi (Triage Carrier; mobility similar to current commandos, eq and weapons slots the same but perhaps a few less highs/lows)

And yet you forget about logi frigates (light) and cruisers (medium) . Analogs from eve would be better served with vehicles (or lack there of currently. ) play style and roles translate better that way.

Amarr and Minmatar Assault bonus=great Gallente=Meh Caldari=Needs improvement

Their fighting stats aren't too bad. I agree that their auxielery stats are crummy.
I imagine a proto commie would be worse then a proto assault, cause they get to stack more plates and xtenders at proto.

Another thing to remember is that how good the commies racial rifle is is a big determiner of its effectiveness. I def wouldn't think a CalMando is very good because the RR is not particularly amazing. It's very kick heavy, just for a breach AR.
The MinMando is great because it both has a good rifle (CR) and synergizes well with it and the bonus.

I don't know about the caldari or ammar but, the minmatar and galente commandos are decent suits.
Scenario #1 You are playing a DOM and are trying to defend the point on the bridge. incoming is a tank and 7 red berries. With your gallente commando and you take our your forge gun and double tap that tank to oblivion. You then switch to your breash and push back those wannabe thiefs trying to take your letter.
Scenario #2 The enemy put up links high on the ledges and nobody have a direct line of sight to them. They keep spaning and soon enough they will overwhelm the position. You take out your minmatar commando with your mass driver andmass drive the hell out of those links taking them out and weakening the enemy. Then you finish off the few stragler with your combat rifle.
Scenario #3 The enemy is entrenched inside a building and are not letting the team get in close. Take out your tac and start picking them off or keeping the red berries head down giving your time some mobility. You then move inside the building with your shotgun and clear the room.
Scenario #4 You are up on top top of that bulding with a clear line of sight of the objective. in comes a ship weakening your team with its aerial bombardment. No problem!!! out comes the swarm launchers and watch that ship hall out of dodge. probably to no good since those heat seeking missiles are hot on its trail. You then notice that a sneaky scout is trying to steal the objective but nobody is close enough to protect it. Mass drive that bastard to smithereens.
These are but a few of the scenarios that can be played with the gallente and or minmatar. I'm sure there are other scenarios where a commando could come in handy especially when the terrain changes. |
