Don't waste your SP on random skills. Skill into your cores first. They increase the amount of stuff you can fit on your dropsuit. Max out Electronics and Engineering first, then you can focus on the others. Also be sure to try out all of the different suits and guns. Find your own playstyle and stick to it. Good luck.

SKILL YOU CORE SKILLS.
Muchos importante that you do this. They make everything you do better.
AVOID FACWAR
Your too green for fac war. Very competitive , with people pulling their best gear.
BE PREPARED FOR FRUSTRATION
This game has terrible matchmaking. There, I said it. You WILL get thrown in matches you can't win. Frequently. Accept it and roll on.
DONT SKILL PROTO UNTIL YOU LIKE IT AT STANDARD
Unless you know you want to have a piece of gear, do not skill to proto immediately. Even then, don't skill so fast. Play at standard gear level for a bit and determine if you like it. It'll be 20$ to get back your SP if you don't like your skills you dropped them in. Don't be that guy. Get a feel for what you're walking into.
I'm sure there's more to say, but that's all I can recall off my head.

Okay about your core skills, get Armour Upgrades to 3 along with Shield Upgrades. I don't have the game right now to look at the others but you should look for the ones that give you increase to pg/cpu(press triangle to see skill description). Core skills benefit you no matter the suit!

Too many god damn people saying 'core skills" without telling the poor bastard what core skills are...
In dropsuit ugrade skill tree, try and get Core Upgrades to level two or three for now (eventually five will be your goal when you get Proto suits). Electronics and Engineering you want to get to level four, eventually five when you have really nice stuff that is hard to fit.
There is a pair of skills called "Armor upgrades" and "shield upgrades" or something like that, the skill should say "Increases base armor/shields by 5% per level" you want those at level five ASAP.
Try out militia gear to test out crap, be very careful spending your SP unless you are absolutely sure that is something you want to do (besides the above stuff). Don't skill into a weapon unless you love the militia version, don't get anything "Complex" or "Prototype" until you have a prototype suit, and don't get a prototype suit until you feel like you do pretty damn well in basic or advanced gear.
Avoid investing in any dropsuit until you get a good feel of the game, read the differences between the dropsuit skills and the suits themselves carefully, and see what's on the battlefield.
Find a corp to help you out, as in talk to you properly with more then vague unhelpful off-hand comments, really walk you through stuff.
EDIT: Also do your best to avoid the forums, they are toxic and may contaminate your own ideas... Please for the love of god learn to think for yourself before jumping on any bandwagons.

They are both militia, thus cheap (50% normal cost) and requiring zero skills (All militia items require zero skills, just a bit worse then the normal stuff in both performance and fitting costs).
Honestly I'd say try them both, hell, but a dozen of each and see how they feel. The AR has terrible range but is a CQC blessing if used properly, and won't blow up in your face. The scrambler has a ridiculous bonus to headshot damage and a nice scope though, and has that nice "charge" ability which can open up unaware targets nicely.

A bit more: You might just one day find yourself skilling into both if you like them that much.
Also take note:
In my experience, once you exit the academy...
Ambush generates the fastest isk but is also extremely punishing to people with poor gun game or tactical sense, and will trash your KDR if you're not careful as it does have some issues that can be exploited. There are two kinds, one with a clone count of 50 which is infantry only, and one with a higher starting clonecount that allows vehicles...
Domination is fast-paced and can be a hellish meatgrinder if you throw yourself in the thick of it, but staying and supporting around the edges can be a very useful learning experience and is much more balanced.
Skirmish I consider the most balanced game mode of all, but some of the maps can make the gameplay rather slow for 16 vs 16 gameplay, but it allows you the most flexibility and provides the most diversity, it can take a bit longer to find matches though...
I personally greatly prefer Skirmish, and have both Skirmish and Domination toggled on (Press Triangle when in the battle menu to toggle modes on and off, available only when you exit academy).
I never play Ambush besides on a separate account that I use purely for giggles, and transfer 100% of my proceeds to my main. I don't like the spawn exploitability with Ambush, but hey some people love ambush so much that they play it exclusively.
... ..... .......
Now for Faction Warfare... In Faction Warfare, MATCHMAKING IS NOT ON and I DO NOT recommend this to any new players. Stay out of it, avoid it, forget it exists until you are 100% comfortable with the game. Factionwarfare is for squads filled with people who want to win the match, WP is a secondary concern, winning comes first in FW and people bring their A-game.

Welcome to Dust. First let me direct you to this thread. It is very extensive. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=136343&find=unread
Next, pick a gun and get it's operation to level 3
Next upgrade Shield Upgrades and Armor upgrades for free Hit Points
Then upgrade Engineering and Electronics so that when you unlock modules for your dropsuits later they will fit.
Go from there. Have fun! |

Xocoyol Zaraoul wrote:?..The scrambler has a ridiculous bonus to headshot damage... This is false. The scrambler rifle has the same headshot bonus damage as most weapons. The scrambler pistol does get a large headshot bonus though.
OP, both of those weapons are strong against shields and weak against armor. The scrambler rifle (a laser weapon) gets +20% damage against enemy shields, but suffers a -20% damage penalty against armor. The Assault rifle has the shortest range of the 4 main types of rifles and has smaller bonuses/penalties to shields/armor (I'm pretty sure it's +10/-10) making it more balanced. I'd lean towards the scrambler personally, but it's trickier to master the heat buildup. If you do go for the scrambler, you'll probably want to skill into Amarr Assault eventually, because their bonus reduces heat buildup and it's very useful.
Best PvE idea ever!

Thank Imp but since i'm liking the game now. (btw i'm off the Academy matches and I really wanted to try the both guns out )
First off the Militia Assault Combat Rifle I went 25 - 7 its pretty good while in close range. { if you guys asking how you went 25- 7 I used a heavy frame Amarr suit & its pretty bad ass}
Secondly the Militia Assault Scramble Rifle although is good mid/close range. on this gun I went 23 - 11 not bad for a beginner right but so far the Combat Rifle was really good.
P.s I found out that there a skill book called Amarr Commando suits and I thinking to my self should go for that cause I see a lot of people using assault suit n scout.

yes armor upgrades is good to first skill into and you have enough points. you want it so you can fit enhanced armor plates(level 3). running dual repairs is also good but you want level 5 for those, so it's best to start with armor plates. the gallente MLT medium suit you can already use that and put 2 enhanced armor plates on it (shields are not as much as a payoff to a new player) and a MLT armor rep (MLT items take no skills to fit)
this will allow you to survive outside of the academy (the first matches where your matched with other new players) fit with a level 2 (level 5 is always max) breach assault rifle. this will give you a fighting chance vs high level players but you will also have to fight very hard until you skill up more. remember that no points are really ever wasted, as their is no cap on how many skill points you can gain, the only thing wasted is time- being skilled into something you dont really use, yet. those points could have been better spent on something you use a lot.
from here you can keep skilling into core skills and you can always change suits since you haven't invested any points in the MLT gallente medium suit, but gallente is pretty straight forward and a stand your ground type of suit, familiar to most FPS players.
commando is good but not the best for lonewolfing but in a pack they really shine.. it's kinda the DPS class.

This is what you should do...legit.
Get on your playstation 3 and make 15 more profiles outside of your own and name them;
"Shotguns" "Heavy" "Tanks" ect....
Create PSN accounts for them and sign up for Dust, create a character and make sure passive SP is on (yellow title bar) and then leave them all alone for 12 months
Use the additional two slots to play in the battle academy. This will let you choose militia gear weapons, have ISK to easily afford them and get used to them and you can decide what you like and what you don't like. When you max them out in the battle academy (5,000wp) biomass and go again. Send the ISK from that character to another character and rinse/repeat.
Continue to play on your DAT QUANTUM account and get ruthlessly slaughtered by protostompers like someone said earlier. Consider using only militia gear, so you're saving tons of ISK. Build a BIG BANK and then when you're pissed off...go outside. Lift weights, get a girlfriend...take up woodworking, build model cars, play other games.
Come back this time next year and you'll have roughly 10 million skill points built up from passive SP gain. Transfer about 5 million isk to each character in profiles and start building your skill tree.
Immediately skill up your core skills, your proto dropsuit and then as far into the weapon tree as you can possibly get. Do this on every account.
You can skill one for shotguns, melee, tanks, dropships, combat rifle, rail rifle, etc
15 profiles, 15 different aspects of the game....
By the time a year has passed and you've been protostomped to death thousands of times, if you pay attention you'll know the battlefield, you'll know what weapons you like and what weapons you don't like and then you too can step onto the battlefield almost fully proto'd out and start stomping the ass of the next newberry like yourself because the matchmaking in this game is messed up.
That's my advice to you. |

Michael epic thanks but really im not going wait it out for the next years but although your guides are very good.
there a lot people that are tell me to wait a year worth of not playing the game BS bro. just cause I got the game doesn't mean I going delete that fast.
I took the hole day of playing the game 24hrs non stop and now look at me im already at 2million ISK and building more as I type this post
Thanks Michael Epic but the waiting for year worth of game ain't going happen bro I win some or loose some but like I said its just a game .

one last thing since I'm an Amarr region ( no clue what that means ) but what should I mainly focus on Welcome to Dust. First let me direct you to this thread. It is very extensive. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=136343&find=unreadNext, pick a gun and get it's operation to level 3 Next upgrade Shield Upgrades and Armor upgrades for free Hit Points Then upgrade Engineering and Electronics so that when you unlock modules for your dropsuits later they will fit. Go from there. Have fun! Thank Imp but since i'm liking the game now. (btw i'm off the Academy matches and I really wanted to try the both guns out ) First off the Militia Assault Combat Rifle I went 25 - 7 its pretty good while in close range. { if you guys asking how you went 25- 7 I used a heavy frame Amarr suit & its pretty bad ass} Secondly the Militia Assault Scramble Rifle although is good mid/close range. on this gun I went 23 - 11 not bad for a beginner right but so far the Combat Rifle was really good. P.s I found out that there a skill book called Amarr Commando suits and I thinking to my self should go for that cause I see a lot of people using assault suit n scout. what do you guys think ? Amarr commandos are fun and go a long way to help shore up the inherent weaknesses of Laz0r weaponry, but they are one of the slowest suits in thegame and have some trouble relocating. however as others have stated you really should be focusing on your core skills before getting too invested in suits
yup right now im save up Sp and ISK for the core upgrades

Hey dude.
Just try to have fun, you are likely going to die a lot at the start but that is totally normal in this game. Try out your starter fits and get a feel for the weapons and the game.
A good idea would be to find a player ran corp / guild to join (Guilds / clans are basically called "corporations" in this game)

Before you start putting points in a Commando, make an alt and try it out first.
Alts are good for experimenting with little time commitment or screwing over your main.
Commandos are a little weak ATM, I would suggesting trying an Assault on an Alt first.
I think Commandos are a good second or third suit once you get enough SP, but that will be 10 to 20 Mil SP down the road.

1. Don't join any Corp with a tax rate. 2. Try to find groups of players to play with through the finder and ask them if they know of any squad recruitment chat channels you could join. 3. Learn to use recruitment chat channels to squad up. 4. Learn to use forge guns to be productive during proto stomps for the first month or two of grinding sp. 5. Be wary of advice from anyone but me. 6. Rank your core skills... Shield and Armor are a must for making all of your suits last longer (TTK is important in this game.) Don't over due it though anything above rank 3 probably won't be worth the SP aside from shield and armor with that 25% boost at level 5 in each. (You can easily fit pretty much whatever you want by rank 3 electronics/engineering of the equivalent tier below proto and you won't be fielding complete proto suits for a loooonnnggg time. Likewise biotics and scan skills aren't a high priority unless you plan to scout.) 7. Don't get slap happy with armor plates. Speed debuffs are a good way to ensure all your opponent's shots land on you. Unless you're amarr since that's all they're good for. 8. Don't worry about Planetary Conquest or PC and skill what you enjoy playing as you won't be involved in PC for a long time if ever. 9. Enjoy yourself while playing and screw the haters...
Also a quick run down on suit types since the militia and basic frames don't really sync up with their races attributes:
Caldari are your long range skirmishers: Shields fold fast in close quarters combat but their quick shield regen after a brief delay makes them ideal for long range fighting, That's why their weaponry includes sniper rifles, rail rifles, swarm launchers, forge guns, bolt pistols, and mag secs. All these weapons generally perform best at long ranges.
Gallente make good short range skirmishers: Their higher armor rep and ability to fit a decent amount of low slots like kincats make them ideal for cover based fighting in short ranges. Armor doesn't rep nearly as fast but reps constantly so you can pop in and out of combat. This is why their weapons include: shotguns, plasma rifles (also known as assault rifles in the marketplace), plasma cannons, and ion pistols. All these weapons generally perform best at short ranges.
Minmitar are your fast moving suits. They have a good median of everything along with some of the fastest base speeds. This makes them ideal dual tanks and fast paced combatants. This is why their weapons include: combat rifles, mass drivers, heavy machine guns, flaylock pistols, and submachine guns. All these weapons perform well in fast paced attacks where accuracy is not as important so you can stay on the move.
Amarr are your brick tanks. They have weapons that are designed to be aimed with precision and reward accuracy. This is why they ideally stack a high amount of armor so that they will have time to release all of their shots. This is why their weapons include: scrambler rifles, laser rifles, and scrambler pistols. All these weapons reward the player for precise and accurate attacks.
All of this said, you can use whatever you want and fit suits generally however you want, I simply mention all these things to give you a base idea of how the equipment of races have generally been designed based on race. That said some things are a bit quirky, like the fact that Minmitar commandos get bonuses to swarm launchers and Caldari commandos do not. Also keep in mind, we don't have full racial parity with weapons especially not heavy weapons so all heavies tend to use both forge guns and heavy machine guns (Forge guns for long distance fighting/Anti vehicle and heavy machine guns for close quarters combat.)
I would experiment a lot with all types of militia vehicles and dropsuits before deciding on any one role and you can always learn multiple roles at standard/adv level faster than one at proto if you don't care about being competitive in PC. This will make you more versatile faster in public contracts/Factional warfare.
I hope all of this helps to give you a very basic idea of what's going on with all the skills and customization options. |

Find a mentor or join a corp like Immortal Guides.
There really is no bad SP investment in the Core Upgrades tree.
Play extensively with all suits & weapons before putting SP in them.

P.s I found out that there a skill book called Amarr Commando suits and I thinking to my self should go for that cause I see a lot of people using assault suit n scout. what do you guys think ?
Commandos are cool. They have large hitboxes and are slow so they take more damage from incoming fire than assault suits. They also deal more damage. Problem with them is that they have very few slots on the suit to put modules - so you'll find yourself with lower stats than everyone else. Commandos are more fun than anything; I have a min com for ***** and giggles and the laser/massdriver combo is fun.
Before you decide what suit you want go ahead and run militia commando so you can try out multiple light weapons at the same time. Since you have a militia heavy frame go ahead and try out the HMG and Forge gun (which is just as good at killing people as vehicles -- don't let anyone tell you different.)
Once you figure out which gun you like you'll need to decide a battle doctrine. There are 4 based on race. Putting it simply you have:
Stack Armor for very high HP but not very fast (amarr) Stack shields for medium HP but without speed loss and fast self recovery from damage (Cal) Stack Armor for pretty high HP, a bit slow, and able to self repair said armor and a mediocre rate (Gallente) Do a mix of all of the above and move quick but be a tad low on hp (Minmatar)
So in the above order: Take tons of hits and get repairs Take some hits and run away, heal and reengage within a few seconds Take some hits while moving cover to cover healing constantly Run around and dodge bullets
Once found a gun you like you can pick a race that matches that gun. THEN choose which type of suit (Scout, Assa, Com, Logi, Sent) you want.
