I've recently started using a Breach shotgun on my Min Assault. It has been reasonably effective with the STD, but I went to see if the ADV Br SG would be worth getting. Much to my disappointment, the only difference was a potential 24 damage per shot and 0.9m. This for the price of 8,000 extra ISK and 31 more CPU.
Is there even a reason to use the ADV? Does one meter and 24 (potential) damage per shot really justify the extra price?

No.
To the best of my knowledge, the Breach Shotgun is the worst shotgun to use by far. You should pick any other variant besides that one.

I've actually been doing fairly well with the Breach Shotgun. My main problem is that the higher tiers are not worth getting.

This is true of any weapon.
No weapon gives you more than a 10% damage upgrade between tiers at best - more often less than 5% per tier, without any range changes.

These small damage additions between tiers make more sense on most weapons due to the fact that they fire more in a short amount of time, and have a larger distance between their absolute and effective ranges. However, on a weapon that only has 2 shots of 12 pellets at all tiers, at a very low rate of fire, with only 2m between absolute and effective range this does very little to benefit the weapon even marginally.

The Breach Shotgun hasn't been healthy for quite some time; it simply hasn't kept pace with HP creed. If you're doing well with it, then props! The weapon needs work, but its a great training tool at the moment. Run your wooden sword for a few days, then switch back to the "real" shotgun. |

I was testing it half year ago, and I came to conclusion that using this weapon does not pay back. - Weapon sometimes jams and do not want to fire second shot. - Sometimes reloading takes 2x longer then it should. - Poor shoot registration.. Beside 2 shots is not enough to kill sentinel, with makes normal shotgun more efficient.

Additional bugs:
* Occasionally raises side arm instead of firing. * Occasionally "locks" user out of secondary weapon until reload animation completes.
It is rumored that Calamity Jane once wrecked CCP Cmdr Wang back before the great shotgun nerf. Though not confirmed, it is believed that the Devs have since found and corrected many of the special gifts Cmdr Wang had buried and obfuscated in the Shotgun's coding. It is entirely possible they haven't hide time to rid the Breach Shotgun's coding of WangBang Easter Eggs. |

One interesting thing is that the Breach SG seems to be better than the regular one when you try to fit a more combat (as opposed to stealth) oriented role, the main issue I run into is that there is little to no room for error. If you miss one shot, you are either dead or extremely lucky. Additionally, even if you had a third or fourth shot the RoF is so low that you would not even have a chance to fire it (sometimes you hardly get a chance to fire the second shot).
I've managed to go head-on with a CalSent in the right situations, and win. Of course, it is important that the situation is right.
I can say that I've had my character pulling out his sidearm instead of shooting a couple of times, and it was very annoying when it happened.
The Breach SG is even more situational than the regular SG, but under the right conditions it is pretty much invincible. You have to be very careful about choosing when to engage.
