((The big thing to remember is that ship sizes changed drastically over time. I'm pulling my information from the basis that we're about equal to the 1600's.
To really boil it down, you can say there's 4 main classification of ships, Big Ships, Small Ships, Galley's and Trade Ships. The Big would include things like the Carrack, Nau, Galleon, Ship of the line and so on right up to modern day battleships. Small would be your Barque, Caravel, Frigate and so on. Then there's the Galley size, which consists of the namesake, Galley, as well as Galleas, Galliot.
Now, I've named all of those in chronological order, but that's not to say that once the galleon was deveoped the Carrack was useless. It was still bigger than the second class of ship, and even then it later entered service as a makeshift merchant vessel.
TL;DR Ships man, they complicated as ****.))

What I imagine Osmari Ships look like - http://www.desktopwallpapers4.me/fantasy/pirate-ships-20496/
What I had in mind with the Thalassae was a bigger caste of ship with an extra deck or guns or even catapults/ ballistae on a wide deck the kind of think that would normally be a design feature of having a larger hold for cargo but fitted instead for combat purposes....perhaps also a troop carrier.
Anywho as I've asked what the **** is going on? War? This became too complex too quickly.))
