Read this historic thread again. There are post by jenza aranda, Nova Knife, Heinrich Jagerblitzen, and Kain Supero, all expressing how not fun it is to be a CPM.
Now I want to know CPM1GÇÖs experience. Not looking for NDA stuff here. I want to hear your impressions of the job contrasted against what CPM0 was experiencing nearly a year ago. How is the work load? Are you having fun? Are you feeling optimistic or pessimistic? Do you think the Community likes you or hates you? What do you do, in a general sense, as CPM?
I suspect I know many of the answers, as I have been following what you guys are doing, but I think it would be a useful exercise to write it down for others to see. Although I expect your workload is still very heavy, you guys seem to be enjoying the experience a lot more than CPM0. I imagine this has a lot to do with what was happening behind the scenes then versus now.
I would particularly be interested in hearing IWS contrast his experience in his first term on CPM0 with his experience this term on CPM1.
I would also be interested to hear from any other members of CPM0, to hear how they feel about how the development of DUST has gone, and hear whether they feel more optimistic today than they did back in January.
Finally, CPM1 & CPM0, if you were to write an open letter to CPM2 candidates, what would you say?

It is a lot of work. It is fun, but it can also be a bit rough. I'm actually very optimistic right now. I am pretty sure everyone hates me, though that was to be expected. Really, most of the effective point of the job is passing on important stuff from the community, and occasionally really having to drive home a point with CCP that they maybe don't prioritize on the same tier as players do.

I think the fact that you are hated has a lot more to do with you continuously poking at pilots and Trolling than the job itself.
Although, truth to tell, I don't think you are actually hated. You are more like the nemesis from an Auston Powers movie.

Nobody on the CPM trolls. It is a very highly respected office and no member of the CPM would ever tarnish the position by lowering themselves to such behavior as trolling.

The work load can be intensive at times.
I've had weeks where I put in upwards of 30-40 hours doing CPM **** (be it meetings for 6 hours + getting points together to send to CCP based on such meeting + getting feedback from the community (see especially recent revisions to RR charge time), working with people to get video's of bugs, defend my good untarnished name (lmao :P), helping shape spreadsheets and more.
You can be as passive and backseat as you wish, or you can be very assertive and involved.
CCP have been a wonder on many points to work with. And Snorri/Ben especially have just been very gracious in opening the floodgates.
When I first arrived on CPM1 I worried the most I'd be doing is chirping for legion news and helping set agenda's for hotfixes and gather feedback obviously and relay player concerns ex: "Hey ____ I've been getting lots of people recently (read: Aeon Amadi)* poking me about the ISD and wanting to see if dust is any closer to having such a thing. What do you think? What can we do to further this player agenda?"...etc etc you get the gist.
Instead it's very much a different process. Snorri posted I took the lead on the sidearm rebalancing. I was very grateful for the opportunity to participate in that process. I probably ****** up a lot of things and some of my suggestions weren't put in (magsec having 0 kick ADS..or ion pistol having the capacity to have 2-3 follow up shots after a charged shot like the scr) but almost universally I felt like Snorri valued my assertions and we had great communication about the various things both of us had in mind.
Since then it's only grown better.
in short, the workload is your choosing (unless they ask you for something...and then its kinda ****** if you just ignore them O_O)
I'm very optimistic, and I think you all will be as well.
I don't know what the community thinks of me. I've always had the most vocal of detractors (see my original "you joined the donut though you future Kane 2.0") but I do listen and I come with an open mind and i love playing devil's advocate and I love people who can argue assertively but not caustically about an issue.
Some people are...annoying..or just hilariously petty (see Attim "hey you're not listening to me" when I really am...or "hey you're from FA you just want _______ to be overpowered cause FA all uses _______go **** yourself"
What would I write?
Get back to you.

Zatara, since I mostly stay out of the War Room I did not know anything about you until you ran for CPM. I actually added you to my top 7 voting list based on your detractors. If your critics prove themselves to be complete idiots, then you must be good right?

Well I'm not on CPM1, obviously, but I will say that I feel most of the members of CPM1 have been exceptionally more effective than most of CPM0. May this be due to internal politics or whatever, I don't know the inside story, I can say that I feel far more connected as a player to CPM1 than I ever did to CPM0, and for that I applaud them.

My post back then, the main objective was to scare off anyone easily scared off. However its also true that back then i thought it would be harder. Reason being that it was about that time that we where told that team true grit was slowly being turned back to eve online. Back then 99% of the interaction that we had with CCP was through TTG. We also became quite close so the idea of not having them around with seemingly few to none to relace them was very daunting.
NONE of us expected to be on the CPM this long. Hell it was originally a 3 month thing that turned into 18 months making us the longest running council CCP has ever had!
Anyhoo, I am in Japan now, and very much without a ps3 so not really my problem any more :P

Thanks for the response jenza. I think the primary intent of your post back then was successful. We ended up with a new Council who, for the most part, expected hard work and long hours.
This thread was more alluding to the underlying tone in your posts. It is interesting to hear that it was the realignment of Team True Grit that was shadowing your statements. I knew you guys were dealing with something very disconcerting behind the scenes, but it is interesting to hear which event you were being effected by at that time.
I am betting you guys really did expect the worst for what CPM1 would have to face, after the term you had had to that point, and then seeing the one group at CCP that you had a functional relationship with being pulled away.
My point in posting this thread is to highlight the contrast between the dysfunction of the CPM/CCP relationship in CPM0GÇÖs term with how well it seems to be functioning now. I am certainly not blaming CPM0 for that dysfunction. Obviously the fact that CPM0 was signed on for 3 months with a specific mandate and then found both the mandate and term stretched beyond reason, meant that some of CPM0 was probably not prepared for what was asked of them, so that did cause some problems. But I think the main dysfunction in the relationship between CPM0 and CCP was that CCP Shanghai did not know how to make effective use of the CPM. While CPM1 was obviously better prepared for what they were getting into, I think that the progress that CPP Shanghai has made in integrating the CPM into the development process has a lot to do with the successful working relationship that has formed between CPM1 and CCP today.
I think CPM0 had a VERY hard term, and I believe that although it was difficult for CPM0 to be as effective as they would have liked, due to the circumstances they were operating in, they laid the groundwork and the foundation for what we have today. Without CPM0 we would not have CPM1.

This is extremely true. I've only heard bits and pieces of what CPM0 had to deal with, but it was enough to realize we would not be where we are without CPM0. People give them a lot of flak on the forums, but they did the best under incredibly rough circumstances.

Well, people tend to be self righteous ignorant prick who like to comment and judge everything even with absolutely no knowledge of what they're talking about.
CPM0 was a very interesting experience, but sadly very much underwhelming in terms of effectiveness due to the fact we had to deal with the entire reorganization of CCP's shangai office and ****.
Also, trying to collaborate with a team of devs for 10+ month that is led by an obvious ignorant cocky basterd that doesnt even consider talking to us more than 5 minutes is worth his time doesnt help.
As much as i got in fierce oppositions with Rouge for obvious reasons (despite the fact that he s french), the guy is light years better than youknowwho as he actually sees the real value in player feedback. If he had been on board at the very first stages of Dust 514, game would have been what it is now. Only a year ago, easy.
Anyway, CPM is demanding, but i surely hope it is now demanding regarding the game itself and a lot less about what's around it.
One thing is sure, i'll never do anything like that ever again. Be it for the pesky behaviors of many people you're actually trrying to help and the fear it could just go down the same way it did before.
Good luck to you guardia.... hum mercs.

It's alright. None of the other CPM's have noticed that I secretly live under the floorboards of their meeting room. I like the dinosaur NPC's we were shown by CCP in a powerpoint though.
