Re-inventing it for Legion is too time consuming and resource intensive. Something CCP has never been good at managing for the long haul. It would take them around 7 years minimum, at the rate they work things out. Hilmar will lay them all off by then, because PS3 Dust will no longer be generating income and they will simply be an unattractive money sink at that point. Just like WoD was.
On the other hand, moving Dust to PS4, the actual existing game that isn't vaporware like WoD and Legion, will continue to generate income and draw in a massive playerbase of PS4 owners who want quite literally anything to play that they can get their hands on. That would give them a launch base to do whatever long term stuff they want to do on PC, as well as a stronger system to try out new things on. Totally agree Himiko.....with this new version of Dust and added improvements for PS4 system, I think this game would be revived. couldn't be more wrong. consoles have far too many restrictions for online store games. with PC CCP will be free to do things as and when they like with no one ot answer to but themselves and the players. Also, there are over 500k subs to EVE, not all them have consoles and many wouldn't dream of buying a console. having the oppertunity to download Legion on a machine they're familiar and have a preference too, and that many believe is the 'best' for gaming then Legion is likely to flourish on PC than it would on consoles. I've always been a console gamer all my life but with consoles Sony, MS, Nintendo are quite restrictive about their online markets as well as the security needed for DUST/Legion to connect with EVE, it was one of the reasons reported that MS wouldn't allow it on 360 (same as with the Portal 2 PC to console connections) having both Legion and EVE on the same system with same/similar coding should enable it to succeed and build both playerbase and reputation to then perhaps move over to ps4 and/or XB1 in 3-4yrs time similar to how Planetside 2 is.
Couldnt be more wrong ? That s arguable.
PC may be all freedom and butterflies but the competition is ferocious. Creating a solid player base there will be a real challenge and even if the entire population of EVE was to play it, it wouldnt be enough.
On the other hand, consoles have pretty much nothing going on that specific MMOFPS thing. And visibility is guaranteed with mainstreamed stores. On pc, not so much.
I just love how the main justification for developping on PC are :
- But what about EVE players, they may not want to by a console => Yeah, and so i guess all console players playing DUST 514 just DREEEEEAAAAAM of buying a PC to keep playing.
- But, developping on console is soooooooo hard, and sony's network is sooooo tough. => Okay.... Then how come games like destiny, ACU, and such manage to release 3 patches in the course of 2 month ? Damn, that seems very very hard..... And let's not forget Sony put in some efforts to make things easier.
As for the planetside 2 example. It actually took 1 year to develop. The first announcement for PS2 being available on release for PS4 was under the assumption that they would simply port the damn thing. Then they decided to use their brain and revamp the game UI\Control wise. (Which they havent finished yet). Also, PS2 even on PC was optimised like **** so optimising for a unified architecture took time. So again, whoah..... Hard and long...... and also, let's compare developping time with end product quality, and let's laugh.
And maybe we can say a few words on DCU, or warframe ? Those two games are working. No problem. Hell even blacklight is playable now.
At some point, one's got to just stop looking for excuses or justifications and simply admit when there's an obvious lack of competence and gigantic executive management failure in strategic decisions. The simple fact they hired a chinese studio with no experience whatsoever to build dust in the first place should have been a big enough hint to have us all run in the opposite direction.
Anyway, that thread was delicious to my eyes. Never thought i could be even more amazed by the overall lack of professionalism\transparency\decency than i already was.
