With the recent cloak nerf, I'm not sure what to do; should I not be cloaked so I can hopefully scan any mediums/heavies coming my way, or should I cloak so they would have trouble shooing me from a distance? Does it depend on the map? What if I were running precisions? Or does it depend on what Scout you're using? For the record, I'm using a Gal Scout, but what if I were using my old Min Scout? o7

I never understood why people cloaked while hacking the objective, an installation I can understand as you could be anywhere around it but it's a given where people are standing when they hack an objective.

Generally, no, but there are exceptions....
I generally cloak when I have squadmates watching me or providing passive scans -- sometimes that's just enough to give me some reaction to incoming fire (or hack while crouched and hope they go over my head). Otherwise it's no cloak and passive scans and hope a double dampened scout doesn't sneak up on me.
Come to think of it, I do often cloak up in one other circumstance: Counterhacking. You'd be surprised at just how bold you can be when the redberries think they've gotten off the hack. |

If you are hacking an objective, they already know precisely where you are, no point in cloaking. Plus it leaves you vulnerable if there are heavies and mediums in the vicinity making their way back.
If you are hacking an installation of some kind, cloak up.

Don't bother equipping the cloak. It's not worth using, and the slot can be better used for some useful equipment.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Ok, here's the thing about cloaking and hacking an objective.
You can get very far off to the side, or even 2m to the front of an objective and hack it. This will give you the smallest bit of extra time you need as the enemy will often fire in a frenzy around the objective to kill you instead of just shooting you immediately.
So if you really want the hack, go ahead and sacrifice yourself, you'll get it off 50-60% of the time. If you're concerned about dying, I'd stay uncloaked and bail if you see someone coming towards you.

CRUs/Installations: Yes, almost always imo. By the time they find out where you are, they should be about in your scan range or else you've gotten the hack off (and the CRU will scan them for you).
Objectives: depends. If you do cloak, try to be skewed a little bit and not like right in the middle where they'd expect you to be, if you get attacked it should give you like a half-second to react.

I usually use walls to bounce grenades off after cooking them so your cloak won't help you at all lol |

While the reduction in passive scan range affects the strategy a bit, I still cloak up to hack a point. One reason is snipers and yes the enemy may know someone is hacking but you can stand to one side or crouch or wiggle and that will make it hard enough for someone to hit you that you can get the hack off and get away. May not work all the time but it works sometimes. Also, hacking level 5. |

If hacking a null cannon area, and the protection is from a distance, cloaking can get you the hack.
They can't really see where you are, so if you go as far back as possible and crouch, you can watch as they fire right in front of the box and hit nothing. Then they spray everywhere trying to find you and focus fire.
If you are running speed hacks, this will get you the hack around 8 times out of 10.
Smart people start chucking nades.

Anyone shooting into most null cannons at distance is lucky to hit anything but the stupid shield it has. Most of the time you have to get right on top of the null cannon to be able to shoot into it and the time it takes most players to get there is what allows people to get the hack off. Having a speed hack suit is the only thing that reliably increases your chances of getting a hack in.

Depends. Open area objective. (B/A in Gallente Biomass Facility) yes Closed area objective, no CRU, yes! Plus try to squeeze into one of the small areas while you hack. Supply Depots, yes Blaster/Railgun, yes.

I make sure to scout the area before I hack, and I position myself as far away from the center as possible and cloak up. I can't see anybody sneaking up on me due to the cloak nerfs but as soon as I hear a bullet I'm gone. I can't tell you how many times being cloaked while hacking has saved me
