Firstly, this post is mainly made in the interest of the Commando's but as the title suggests it's also related to Assault's.To get straight to the point; I feel that the
racial Assault and Commando bonuses should be traded with each respective racial dropsuit (Assault gets damage buff and Commando gets the Heat reduction/Clip size extension/Hip fire reduction/etc.) because I feel that the current Assault bonuses are (at their core) more oriented at suppresion (firing over extended periods of time) than at slaying. That is all, please play a few matches and try imagining a Commando like the Amarr or Minmatar being able to extend their firing times over longer periods of time (Let's also assume Gallente and Caldari Commando's get an equally useful bonus
). I'm just a player who loves DUST and wishes to see it become the very best it can possibly be,
Things to note:
1. I'm aware that giving a generic damage bonus to Assaults is probably a bad idea because that means that the dropsuit with the highest slot count is going to end up with the strongest damage output.
2. I know that even though the Amarr and Minmatar bonus swaps would be interesting, this would not be a good deal for the Gallente and Caldari (
Especially Caldari, 50% reload speed on rail weaponry
) so their Assault dropsuits would need a better suppression skill for this to work on them.
3. I know that many of you will be against this idea because it would mean that you could be potentionally "screwed" when the dropsuit you skilled into has it's bonus swaped for something as boring and generic as a flat damage bonus. I wish there were more
fun bonuses I could think of fore assaults but I have none right now.
4. I don't intend to hurt the Assault role in this game, I simply (IMO) believe that their racial bonuses would be far more effective on a dropsuit with higher reload speed whose role was made with the idea of suppression in mind.
5. I'm aware how touchy the idea of taking such a long standing and practically trademarked bonus such as the Amarr Assault's Heat Reduction bonus and suddenly giving it to a different class, but if we don't even
try to change things (for better or worse) we'll never truly know whether they'll work or not. Please keep an open mind and remember this is just mostly my personal perception on things and this is merely an
idea.

Thanks for your time!Edit: after reading Aeon's OP (and getting a good nights sleep) I believe Caldari and Gallente Commando's should get a range bonus (Caldari) and an ammo capacity increase bonus (Gallente). The bonuses would then go something like this:
Commando Role Bonus: +5% Bonus to Light Weapon Reload Speed per level.
Racial Commando Bonuses:
Amarr: +5% Heat Build-up reduction to Laser Weaponry per level.
Caldari: +5%(?) to effective range of Light hybrid Railgun weaponry (This bonus is subject to change if something more appropriate shows up)
Gallente: +5% Bonus to Maximum Ammo Capacity of Light Hybrid Blaster Weaponry (AR, PL, SG)
Minmatar: +5% Bonus to clip size of Light Projectile Weaponry per level.
Do you guys think this would be alright?
