I am a Minmatar. I am a former slave. I was raised as a slave. I worked as a slave. I lived as a slave. My owners challenged me mentally as well as physically. Life was hard and I was expected to perform, not just as a slave but also as a human, at a certain (at that time) unknown level of capability.
Time passed and I tried my best to live up to my owner's expectations. Every action was a test that I did not know I was taking. I was constantly conversed with by my owners as though I were a peer about my opinions and feelings about the world around me. I was punished when I tried to please them during these conversations.
Then one day they freed me...they abandoned me. I had not been punished in a long time and I would both agree and disagree with them on a variety of topics. I thought I was too worthless for them to spend time one.
But...I was told that I was a human of strong moral character, fierce determination, and capable empathy. So I was free. And I was alone.
My former owners are now my peers. They raised me into a person both willing and able to contribute positively to society. I can have no hate for the Amarr with what they have given me as a person. We talk, we laugh, we argue, but we do so as humans that are valuable to out fellows around us. Even those who we have not met.
I have a slave of my own now. She is young, and stupid, and selfish. She thinks only of herself and not at all of others. She does not value others and she does not even value herself (despite her being unaware of this fact.)
She, like vitually all other people, has potential to be great. She will be remade. She will surpass me in her greatness.
Heathens who refuse to even entertain the possibility of improvement will be burned. Those that are willing to learn will be taught. Even if they disagree with what they have been taught at the end of the road -- they will have value.
The Empress is kind. Some say that she was hasty in her decision. However, her choice will give other former slaves a chance to see the society people without proper physical, emotional, and psychological support can do. I believe it will encourage them to return to the fold of their own free will to better themselves.
