Would removing sound from equipment increase frames per second? Or perhaps optimizing it so that 20 uplinks and hives close together sounds like one simple modified audio track rather than nearly blowing out my speakers
I just played domination/research lab. Ever since the update it has been fairly smooth, improved. However, this match had PC level lag. It got waaaay worse when I got anywhere near the supply depot, and i'm talking about 5 fps to 1 frame per 2 seconds.
The amount of equipment spam was unreal. Never had I seen it like this before. It was as if my ENTIRE team **** hives and uplinks, but not just normal shitting, like full on ebola/tacobell diarrhea type of shitting.
And it was SO loud. It drowned out the dropships and gunfire for some weapons.
So going anywhere near audio range of these hives, even when not in line of sight, dropped frames to powerpoint presentation levels. So I was wondering if removing the audio from equipment would increase frames.
And because this "community" consists of people who pretty much only play this game in their imagination and disagree with everything by saying stupid things like "no, I rely on sound 100% to find equipment", and can't come up with solutions to these problems, I feel the need to preemptively say that increasing the distance passive scans pick up equipment would be a decent solution to that "problem".
It would definitely be worth better FPS, if possible. |

I saw someone post, a long time ago when CCP made a fix to the lag bombing with equipment spam, thanking CCP for "Solving the lag issue without taking away sandbox gameplay"

That's one of the reasons I keep the volume turned down, that and I don't want to hear tanks and dropships that are on the other side of the map. Though I've haven't experienced lag because of it in a very long time (since they fixed the sound bug the 1st time a year ago or so). The sound and bright lights are annoying as fck though; if EVE pilots could just freely fire on planets they wouldn't even need a merc on the ground to accurately hit that sh!t.

It would definitely be worth better FPS, if possible. i definatly think you may be onto something as the game tries to render all the sounds from each equipment when just 1 sound file should get an increase in volume when in proximity to other equipment

EQ deployment sound nor destruction pop sound have nothing to do with the sound all said equipment generate nonstop while they exist.
Action event sounds are one off. EQ sounds keep going and going.

I feel like the sound files could be a bit more efficient myself. But honestly just remove the hive bubble animation. That right there would work WONDERS. I don't need it. I can figure out how close to stand to get ammo just fine on my own seeing as my IQ is over 50... |

I don't even understand why everyone always spams a fuckload of equipment in that room. What's the point?
A few uplinks, sure, but why all the nano hives? There's a supply depot right ******* there!

I had this same epiphany way back, but was immediately shot down/ignored.
IMO though, we should keep the sounds "unique" as far as each general direction.
E.G. i should be able to tell there's a stack of nanohives "somewhere" to my right.
or an uplink "somewhere" behind me.
How this could be coded is beyond me, but if we could take 20+ nanohives at any one time and make them into 2-3 sound "clips" then i could see no drawback to this, the problem would be if doing that takes significant coding, so we then have to settle with "10+ nanohives combine into 1, regardless of direction, distance, or volume"
An example though of how this "might" be made easier: If multiple nanohives are in the same 20m area, consolidate into 1 sound, at a 15% increased volume or so. If beyond, maintain as separate sounds, so as to keep spatial echolocation viable :D

Quite a nonsensical fix.
If there is equipment spam near installations it would make sense to make a specific area radius around them that breaks equipment if they are planted in said radius. Then if equipment such as uplinks are planted too closely together, the one that was planted too closely will explode.
Not that hard to think of better fixes.
