I don't write much on these forums but I feel that this needs to be said. I have many real life friends who I have tried to bring along to play this game over time and they ALL turned away within a week. The reason that always comes up is that matches are too one sided and they always get wiped out by organized groups in an unorganized evironment, which in turn gives squads the possibility of using top tier gear against average joes and litterally farm public matches. The fact that CCP has not implemented solo vs solo matches and squads vs squads matches is beyond me. |

Short version, too few people to add more game modes/improve matchmaking. CCP really wants to make balanced matchmaking but would need a bigger playerbase... |

I understand your point, but I believe they would get more players hooked if it wasnt a protostomp fest. Maybe it is too late, but I did write a similar complaint 1 year or so ago. I just came back to this game and there have been a lot of improvements, but the matchmaking system is ruining the fun out of this game, whichever side I play on. Once in a blue moon I do get a balanced match and it is the reason why I keep playing, but it is not enough for most and this had to be/should be adressed. |

I enjoy DUST 514 but at the same time understand I am in a small group to which the game appeals.
No other game extracts such rage from me but the flip side of the "coin of DUST" is the sheer fulfillment I get when I do well. It took me weeks if not months to be competitive and I still, after these many months, feel I am good but not great. Yet here I am.
Having said that, it speaks to the failure of CCP's endeavor. There is no white washing it. DUST is a free to play game on a console that is in the hands of tens of millions of end users.
Yet, DUST has always struggled to maintain a workable player count.
For those that were here from the beginning, they speak of bitter vets and cliche BS. Those that joined the Fraternity later and had to endure the hazing of the noob beat down that lasts for months, understand why new players aren't retained.
The fact that the idea of other potential modes which divide the player count into even smaller increments precludes us from having a better NPE only highlights the failure of DUST 514 as a CCP business money making venture.

Yep that's Dust for you. Tried getting a couple of my friends into it and they just wasn't with it. It's brutal and the neckbeards aren't going anywhere because hey, they suck at everything else.
New players got a grind on their hands. Though SP is increased for the time being and more chances are given for these guys to come up, not a majority of people want to spend their time grinding in Dust 514 against self proposed Dust Gods who send "git good scrub" to them.
If they stick around, salute. If they leave, I understand.

but there are some fun moments where both teams try hard and that's when Dust really shines. Yep. I mean basically the entire point of corps is to bundle up noobs into a larger group of noobs so that they a slighty better chance of survivability against higher skill players. Eventually there comes about new clones who are even noobier than the older noobs so the older noobs have a group they can actually do better than. It's a cycle of ascension.
Let me just say though that players that are good at other shooters will generally excel at Dust because Dust penalizes you hard for bad skills and rewards you a lot for a lot of skill. It's just the way it is.

So basically what the advice is , if you and your friends could find a corporation to join ... you would have better success and learn some of the secrets that would increase your potential and within a corp , you find help as well .
It's hard to stay with this playing solo , few can do it and those few sometimes squad with some known players or they just get their lumps and learn from experience .
If it's not for you then know that it's not for everyone but if you stay , learn and adapt then you would come to understand that it's just a game ... one where things are not handed to you on a silver platter ( which is part of the reason that I play this game ) and you have to work for what you have , " You keep what you kill " .. in other words so , if you don't like to work ( which is the attitude of most in the current generation ) then there are other options out there that would cater to the style of play that's more to your liking .
It's not for everyone and that's part of the reason you find a lot in the community acting so passionately .
Get into a corporation and help make it easier for yourself and your friends .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

Nope.
The undeniable truth is that players who joined after beta have more blood in the game. The hazing makes us indoctrinated to DUST in a way Closed beta vets do not understand.
If you were here from the beginning, you started on the same level as everyone else. Only by starting with an alt can someone like that begin to understand. And even then it's not the same because you have in game knowledge.

I do understand the comments about the grind, but I still believe new players with previous experience in shooter games that would come with a 6 man in public games would still wipe the floor with solo players. They should be seperated, but that is my opinion and that of my friends who played the game and quit. I am not emotional contrary to some responses and I do have fun playing this game, I just wish that more ppl stayed. |

nothing new.
new eden isnt welcoming to new players. you cant pick up a new fit and go and win like cod with 0 experience. new players are very small fish in a big pond full of sea monsters.
you all should join a corp or split into teams to practice with experienced players or tough it out. or i guess the other option is quit since thats what they did lol.

So... they were getting beat bad and went to other games that they were good at? At some point, they had to have been bad at the other games too, and no offense, but players who only do what they are immediately successful at won't stick around for a lot of games. Those willing to take the knocks of a new game that is challenging usually get the most reward out of those games.

Matches will continue to be one-sided until we have other options but on the contrary, if they played the game as much as you claimed, they shouldn't be getting stomped continuously because they would wind up on a team eventually and should learn that it is a team based game. It's not that the game favors organization that's the issue, it's that your friends don't like to organize. They essentially want a more COD/Battlefield/MoH gameplay. Of course I don't know them personally but I'm assuming from what you've said about them, is all.
We'll probably never have a solo vs solo. Can't see where that really comes into the EVE Universe. Maybe when Legion gets the arena? But even then, that would be extremely boring. Haven't played in a while but Dust's TTK is much slower than the rapid action that most solo vs solo matches demand. A lot of eHP, stealth, and healing factors... That adds up to bad math for making fun solo vs solo matches.
Squad vs Squad would be much more plausible but you're going to find the same issues that you get in the regular matches. One organize squad vs one unorganized squad. And what's worst is that you won't have the option to choose which squad you want to enroll in or to build a squad in-match. Oh and the fact that you'll probably get a lot of matches going on and because it's one squad vs one squad, your odds of ending up against one of the MANY organized squads are high.
These mechanics will not solve the issues your friends are having.
And I probably sound pretentious or something, but Dust isn't built around unorganized battles. You can't just jump into the game and say, "Screw playing for the team" and expect to do really good. Some people are capable of doing really good with that mentality but then these people aren't reliable on the field of course. You have objectives, you have missions, and you have roles. The people who "survive the dust," are those that learn how to cooperate when it benefits them.

You say that it would not solve the mechanics but I can't help but compare to the old guild wars, even though it is a completely different type of game, the same logic applies. You could solo Q and you would be teamed up with other soloers and would face other soloers. It was fair. I do know that people don't like fair because as it turned out, people would go onto the korean server to ''sync'' up with their teammates and be paired against soloers to farm. It's basically what is happening in dust, except that in dust, the game is made like that and to me it is boring to be on the winning or losing side and I don't see the ''skill'' involved when all the odds are stacked in favor of the team with a squad in it. I guess it's just me, but the reality is that regardless of the ''welcome to new eden '' blah blah comments, most of the potential player base left, and there are good reasons why. Anyways, that was my 2 cents and all I had to say on the matter, I just wish the devs read this for future games because solo players are numerous and should not be ignored. |

Idk It is always hit or miss with me some matches I play like a rockstar and other I can't kill one person. I find that what my team is doing is a much larger factor than anything else If my team has 3-4 snipers I might as well not play to win because I will just lose a ton of money (fuckin worthless snipers) last night for instance 4+ snipers and I burned 5 tanks trying to assault the point myself I was fighting a squad, but that was not the problem. In my view it is snipers which are pretty much afkers that twitch every now and then.

I was not the first, I was one of the first ones yes, but no I did not get a good entrance into Dust! I quitted for a few weeks because Dust was far too small, only when I came back did I regret my leave. I was a piece of meat that was thrown into the wolf's nest, I had to re learn the controls, then I had to compete with the advanced and protos in militia, then I had to continue fighting my way to the best possible condition I could be in while playing this game. When academy was added I had no idea until my first 'alt' was made in the open beta... the original Sir Ravenwing... I competed and came out on top each time, I was like trying to fight blind, shieldless logis who had a slingshot for a weapon. DUST needs an optional 2nd tier academy mode so new players can build up a solid base of SP, learn the maps, learn the mechanics, make friends, join a corp, etc. without going up against organized/experienced players. I have a pretty extensive thread on this and other NPE ideas. If you have feedback (positive or negative), I'd be interested to hear it.

There are counter tactics for the stomps. Usually a good stomping squad will have proto logi-heavy trains and constant scans. Often a heavy can weather full clips of enemy fire, even from proto weapons. High alpha strikes can work, like explosives, plasma cannon (not recommend), and forge sniping. Sometimes a whole match can ride on the assassination of the logi. This isn't COD.
