So why do forge guns still have a splash radius if they have zero splash damage? |

Impact visual effects.
And the assault variant still has splash damage.

Better question yet, why did they even remove the splash damage?
It seemed like one of those out of the blue changes CCP likes to make for no reason.
It's not that big of a problem really, as you usually had to rely on direct hits to kill infantry as is, but I don't really see why it needed removal.

too easy to pull area denial on outdoor hack points.
park a sentinel on a hive and you can eliminate any chance of a hack in domination and in a few areas of skirmish maps.
that and to discourage forge sniping, which seems to be the primary function of the weapon if you go by the most common uses of it.
it's why the forge gun charge timers were increased back in the day. it wasn't because they were OP against vehicles.

You still get the 4 red hit markers when the no-damage splash hits you. It's pretty much a warning not to stand still and take evasive measures.

None of the forge gunners who have mastered the weapon lost much of anything with splash lost. Almost all of my forge kills are bodyshots anyway, so my ability to kill with it wasn't notably decreased.

I guess the visual is the important thing they wanted to keep then? hmm, I still woudlnt mind if they just removed the splash radius from the variants that do not get splash damage, just kinda makes sense.
I knew a few people who attached a sticker of a dot on the center of their tv which is where the center of your aim would be to help aim forge guns and no scope snipe hehe |

CCP put a reticle wobble that can throw off AFG aim to counter that. the effect used to give me an eyestrain headache trying to aim.
Turns out my glasses/contacts were off just enough to cause the problem.

If that were the case then they should have removed the splash damage from the AFG and left it on the Breach (not many would be willing to wait on the charge to use it for keeping people off the objective) cause the AFG sitting on hives is the best (besides officers) for denying access to the objective. And splash hasn't been effective for sniping since they bumped up the charge time and reduced the splash range; just as easy to hit them directly as it is to catch them in the splash now so it's just quicker to do that than try to splash them to death.

Honestly the whole forge line needs a rework.
the breach isn't useful for AV and overkill for infantry
the standard has less Alpha AND DPS than the assault.
Screw it. Will look at stats and propose a fix.

Will look at stats and propose a fix. Breach is best used with another AVer (swarmer most likely). It does huge amounts of alpha and the other can whittle down what's left. Two breaches could probably alpha anything but a well fit tank.
Regular are good of you're bad with the assault (I am guilty of this).

Forge sniping and forge objective covering dominate because of instagib direct hit.

Cause tryhards think the direct kill is cool..
The splash damange on the Forge was a great weapon for clearning out tons of equipment for killing scout running in your direction. No more...
They also removed the splash from the rail turret.. why even have a freaking tank then.

Speaking of equipment, I actually see one way the splash removal was good.
It used to be that when I spawn camped uplinks with my FG like a ****, the splash would often destroy the uplink in the process.
But now I can kill merc after merc until they either get a clue or it get's destroyed by other means.

It was removed due to the fact that higher tier forge guns could kill people based off of splash damage and NOT from a direct hit.

Forge guns still have splash damage on certain variants(and with that they can still be used to kill infantry and not vehicles. Even without but the splash damage still makes it more easy to do so.) |

One has great damage but you can not move so you are a sitting ducking with a huge target of the glowing from the gun as you charge.
