Impact visual effects.
And the assault variant still has splash damage.

It seemed like one of those out of the blue changes CCP likes to make for no reason.
It's not that big of a problem really, as you usually had to rely on direct hits to kill infantry as is, but I don't really see why it needed removal.
too easy to pull area denial on outdoor hack points.
park a sentinel on a hive and you can eliminate any chance of a hack in domination and in a few areas of skirmish maps.
that and to discourage forge sniping, which seems to be the primary function of the weapon if you go by the most common uses of it.
it's why the forge gun charge timers were increased back in the day. it wasn't because they were OP against vehicles.

because whiners will whine. See my post above.
None of the forge gunners who have mastered the weapon lost much of anything with splash lost. Almost all of my forge kills are bodyshots anyway, so my ability to kill with it wasn't notably decreased.

I knew a few people who attached a sticker of a dot on the center of their tv which is where the center of your aim would be to help aim forge guns and no scope snipe hehe
CCP put a reticle wobble that can throw off AFG aim to counter that. the effect used to give me an eyestrain headache trying to aim.
Turns out my glasses/contacts were off just enough to cause the problem.

If that were the case then they should have removed the splash damage from the AFG and left it on the Breach (not many would be willing to wait on the charge to use it for keeping people off the objective) cause the AFG sitting on hives is the best (besides officers) for denying access to the objective. And splash hasn't been effective for sniping since they bumped up the charge time and reduced the splash range; just as easy to hit them directly as it is to catch them in the splash now so it's just quicker to do that than try to splash them to death.
Honestly the whole forge line needs a rework.
the breach isn't useful for AV and overkill for infantry
the standard has less Alpha AND DPS than the assault.
Screw it. Will look at stats and propose a fix.

Diablos Prime wrote:Banjo Robertson wrote:So why do forge guns still have a splash radius if they have zero splash damage? Great question, I have wondered that myself. I am also curious why the forge gun is the only weapon that gets the proto tier weapons with major drawbacks. One of them is a charge weapon that can not hold a charge so you have to be good with your charge timing. One has great damage but you can not move so you are a sitting ducking with a huge target of the glowing from the gun as you charge. Threadomancy is a cardinal sin.
