The ultimate downfall of this game(besides the crap announcement of Legion Coming Soon) in my opinion is the number of high latency players. Latency so high that the server cannot keep up with their location so they are never able to be hit with bullets. Its bad enough we have this crap hit detection that is RPG hit/miss percentage based when the reticule is red, but adding unnecessary lag ruin the game. I have ranted and raved about the option of switching battle servers being crap, but of course me being just a consumer, have no say. Many of the "elite"(and i say this with the most sarcasm possible) have exploited this and their KDRs show for it. I really wish I could believe you guys if you said you play your own game, but the state of the game shows otherwise. You cannot go by hearsay of whatever you have the CPMs monitoring as they were all a part of the "elite". DEVs, I ask of you to play your own game in a squad with each other and join different battle servers for a few matches each. You will find that the one where you have the highest latency, will give you the greatest advantage over people. I have tested and seen it. It is the most prominent with light suits due to their quicker movement.
With 1.9 Coming out I saw matchmaking on the list. PING and DROPPED PACKETS need to be a criteria for matchmaking. I could do with a more lenient skill/WP/KDR/etc based Scotty, but he has got to analyse the connection of players.

TL;DR: I blame the japanese and south american player hardware for my poor performance.
Dude there is no other server for them to play on since oceania took a dump because the smerican/brit players were exploiting the fact that they could do EXACTLY WHAT YOU DESCRIBE DELIBERATELY.
It's why they are in the US server. CCP had to shut theirs down because of abusive players here.
We made our bed. We have to lie in it.

You can't blame those players for high latency because they are far away and there are so few servers available.
On Twitter: @HilmarVeigar #greenlightlegion #dust514 players are waiting.

This is where real matchmaking comes into play. Real matchmaking not only incorporates the skill level of the plaer but their connection quality as well. When there are very few players online I can understand running into people with lag, but when there are plenty to choose from I should not have any connection problems.

Been noticing this a lot lately. At first I thought it was -my- connection but it was only a handful of specific players who I had recurring problems with.

In other FPS games I play (BF for instance) the low ping has an advantage.
It's always seemed to me that Dust is exactly the opposite -- with high ping players having an advantage.
I don't know enough about the netcode to understand if or why this occurs, but I've had that impression for some time now, and I wonder if others do too.... |

Here's some info.
The American Server is located in Texas... the closer you are, the less you ping.
*cue the Hispanic corp rage posts*
But truthfully, if you look at the leaders boards (all time and weekly) and the "known" players in this game... vast majority have something in common. They are west coast, and southwest in the US.

Clientside calculation favors lower ping to even the field.

The problem with people living in areas with horrible connections is the following...
The client (you) TRIES to receive informations such as position from the server(s) in every few milliseconds and with extrapolation and interpolation does further PREDICTIONS to smooth the delay between those milliseconds.
Keep in mind that lots of those informations (packages) are lost because your brother is playing Advanced Warfare, your Mom watches "How to loose 100 kilograms in one week", your ISP decided to cut the wires for shitz and gigglez. But because you are in an awesome EU country with very cheap 100Gbps connection you still doing good.
When you pull the trigger and hit a target named RandomRedBerry123 the client sends this information to the server. The server then confirms if this information (the hit on RandomRedBerry123 from you) is valid (based on and then sends the hit confirmation to RandomRedBerry123.
Now IF RandomRedBerry123 has potato-net and downloads a huge site-rip from LatinosWannaHaveFun.com there is a huge chance that he will never receives this information and simply won't take any damage. For further speculations assume that RandomRedBerry123 is a cheap gamer and loves running around in PRO Caldari Scout suit (with shotgun of course).
The Caldari Suit is a pretty fast stuff and it can cause problems on your side because of the PREDICTIONS mentioned above. You can hit RandomRedBerry123 as many times as you want he won't take damage AGAIN because your client made bad predictions and the server refuses to confirm your hits.
This is just a very basic and stupid explanation of how ****** up and ultimately complex the online FPS gaming since Quake 2. And DUST514 is extremely clunky in this world.
Yes, I'm that desperate...

They are also in EU or the server do not care of our settings and put us where there is a place.

Speed tanking doesn't work because that only increases sprint speed, not movement...Run Ferroscales, not plates to preserve your maximum strafe

Get the most trouble from the Japanese and Spanish corps. I don't think it's their fault particularly, but I'm sure they probably think they're better shooters than they actually are because of the latency they don't see. On even playing fields they would probably be disgusted to see what we're actually capable of. We give em hell even with the latency issue. They'd probably get absolutely crushed if my shots actually registered lol!

If you sprint at you're opponent @ 45 degrees on the asia server they'll be shooting 10ft behind you, blap them and keep going or reverse over their stream of fire and blap them on the other side.

Well that would explain my carppy performance(too a degree). I am in said server state. Im not saying that i would be the best ever but im sure some more of my bullets would hit based off these hypotheses

I think you might be complaining in reverse. When you are lagging you are easier to hit and it's harder for you to hit others. Ask anyone who got stuck with super lag: They would turn a corner, fire half a clip into someone, only to be teleported back to around the corner they were at originally with all the bullets they fired going into the wall. Then they die cause the guy they were shooting turned the corner and saw them standing still there shooting into a wall.
Or when it over assumes how far you move, and you teleport forward 5 feet and fall off whatever you were standing on, and all your bullets were shooting 5 feet to the left/right of whatever you were aiming at.
If you can't hit them it's not because they are lagging but more likely because YOU are lagging or your framerate is taking a poo/cig break. |
