Admittedly, I've been a little critical since I got back (not that that is any different from how I usually am). CEOPyrex put it best in that I get frustrated whenever I can't get information and that's absolutely true; I'm just like the community when it comes to information. I crave it, I always want more, and I always want to know where my investment is going.
That drive is why I constantly remind CCP Games the importance of a certain level of transparency. This isn't to say that we want to be over-promised things but we do want to see what is currently going on if only for a wellness check; a pulse. It means a lot to us as players having the security of knowing where things are going from here but more importantly it means something that'll perk up marketing's ears: Money.
Now, don't get me wrong, consumers will buy anything. Bill Burr even has a stand-up comedy segment about how people will buy a George Foreman grill even though George Foreman is a boxer who lost Muhammad Ali and knows jack about grilling. The beautiful thing though, is an informed consumer base (especially in video games) will often align with a certain brand if they feel secure in their investment.
So why does this matter? Why is it so important to bear mention of a 'brand' when it comes to Project Legion? Well, because of this interview with none-other than Ryan Geddis, the Global Brand Director at CCP Games. What I find peculiar about this video is that, at first glance, it sounds exciting! Running for the CPM, however, taught me how to read between the lines of what a person was saying and here is what I heard:
"Project Legion is the Dust 514 experience brought to the PC, we don't want to connect it to Eve Online yet until it's able to stand on it's own two feet. Fundamentally, it is the same as Dust 514 except without the PS3's hardware limitations. Dust 514 is still going strong with a great community and we have no plans to change that. It's very important for us to hear their feedback and what they want out of the game. It's really important for us to have that dialogue going all the time."
That last line is the most crucial, as it's not paraphrased - it's exactly what Ryan Geddis said. CCP's consumer base needs to hear the other side of the feedback loop. Dialogue is not one-sided. It is physically impossible to provide feedback on something we don't even know exists yet and that is why it is IMPERATIVE that we have Project Legion's developers openly engaging with us more.
Now, don't take this as a hint to storm the castle and attack CCP Rattati and CCP Logibro - they're doing a great job on Dust 514 right now and we need them to stay right where they are. However, do take this as a hint to start asking questions for CCP Wolfman, Z, and Rouge as they're the ones who can actually answer those questions. PLEASE ask questions, even the hard questions, as they -need- to be answered for Project Legion to do right by it's community.
But most importantly - and this is directly to CCP Wolfman, Z, Rouge, and the entire Shanghai team - we need you to be willing to answer them. Because just as CCP Rouge said at the Dust 514 Keynote at Fanfest 2014, this is a Four Pillar system and the third pillar applies to real life as well: A player driven economy.
TL;DR
Ryan Geddis (CCP's Global Brand Director) said that, "It's very important for us to hear their feedback and what they want out of the game. It's really important for us to have that dialogue going all the time." Dialogue cannot be one-sided and we need to have Legion's developers engaging with the players, answering our questions, and showing us the things to start that dialogue.

We'll hear about it after it's been released and they've done everything wrong when it could have been avoided just by having a few convos with the community.

This argument has been made ad nauseum , even the CPM have urged CCP to be more talkative regarding legion.
There are three possibilities 1) The new CCP is the same as the old CCP. All promises, no delivery. 2) The scope of legion is still in flux and there isn't much point in discussing something that may change 3) They are watching what a certain other space sim is doing first.
Meanwhile star citizen demonstrates mercs flying through space in a spaceship, landing on a derelict, and getting into a gun fight before turning off the gravity.

Yup the guys making star citizen at least are showing progress unlike CCP which is a very untrustworthy company that unfortunately has the idea of the New Eden Universe with all these games connected to it doesn't seem to know what they want to do or that they're lucky that they still have a community for Dust even after fanfest of 2014

When it comes to Legion it seems they say little or nothing we can only hope they are doing something =ƒÿä

Like the guys in the bio-massed podcast said CCPs marketing division seems to be full of idiots, which we can all figure is true by now.
Also supposedly that guy wouldn't talk to anyone but the press at EVE Vegas.

Ya didn't even think of that till u said that lol what he did seems typical of a politician. But still he might have known nothing but the lines that his bosses in CCP gave him.

It would be nice for an open dialogue but lets face it, the "internet" were merciless with Dust 514. Those of us who stuck it out know the game has improved and has depth as FPS. I can see why CCP execs might be ordering the gag. But I don't want to see CCP repeat the same public issues like they did with WOD which I am glad they did cancel, much like I am glad Blizzard canceled Titan. It just wasn't working. But here we have a FPS lobby game that will be on the PC that has potential. Let's say it doesn't get accepted. Eve wasn't a icon when it launched either. I have hopes for Project Legion. I will say this. If 2015 has no public information or dialogue than I will blow this off as an early supporter.
I think it should also be pointed out that games like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, and even No Mans Sky are going to accomplish game play with their game engines that MMO fans, FPS fans, and Eve fans have been asking for. A complete integrated game play experience with a mix of FPS, RPG elements, and a persistent space and planet experience. This market for sci fi is going to change over the next 5 years in terms of releases. Eve has its loyal following due to PvP and the market, but even now Eve is being made more accessible.
This is what I think about as a fan of New Eden and Dust 514 with with Project Legion. How is it going to give the player an experience of an open world, a open galaxy, and refrain from just being a lobby shooter? Or, should we know that it is a lobby shooter which is fine. How far down the line is this game going to take on an experience of New Eden and a FPS? Personally I can see how it could integrate directly into Eve Online but to be honest...there are kids out there that have access to the Unreal Engine for 19.99 a month who can do the same thing and will with their own projects. That community is huge.
But lets look at the communication so far. They are in a development phase. It has been mentioned they are working on it and can't talk about it. And I will bet you they want too so badly. But I am not waiting like I did with WoD. No frakking way . Well, back to Eve Online while I patch my PS3, move it to my monitor, and plug in my keyboard and mouse.
Best wishes to the devs working on Legion - go kick some ass! Hey Execs- give us a bone.

The FPS "community" is a big chunk of the problem, at least when it comes to Dust.
The reason that you aren't hearing anything, is because there's nothing to tell. As a guess, I'd say that CCP is trying to figure out what to do in order to stay afloat through the next couple of years. I hate to break it to you, but given all the money they've thrown away on Dust, I'm sure they're pretty hesitant to do the same re: Legion.
So, right now, I imagine CCP is hedging their bets and seeing how Valkyrie does, and maybe, if that does well, Legion will actually get some work done.
