Okay so CCP stated around a year ago that they will NOT BE DOING ANY MORE REPSECS.
People whined and they were rightfully ignored. People continued to whine, and they were ignored. Legion is announced and CCP decided to get every cash grab they can from DUST. With the return of the BPOs which they also said would not be coming back (though that was SLIGHTLY justified).
Now, I literally don't know what to believe if CCP makes any more statements about their games because they are showing that they will actively just change everything they said so fast.
This respec now means that whatever is considered the best will be played in almost EVERY game you play in DUST. Imagine this, situation:
This feature was available last patch. How many scouts would you see with the max possible stats? There would be WAY more and they would be stronger.
No more reasons to commit to your choices because now you can just change your mind if you fork over -ú-ú-ú.
Thay guy that specced in Plasma rifle that loved his weapon? Now corps will expect you to respec to the best just to be competitive.
CPP clearly stated there would be no more respecs and for good reason. People will soon see why this move is a terrible idea and how you will have no variation in DUST anymore with everyone respeccing to the flavour of the month.
I would have agreed with this if it was a ONE time purchase to allow people to fix mistakes.
My prediction:
Now that this feature is in place, CCP will continue to rebalance the flavour of the month to get as many people to buy respecs as possible.
I hope I am being over cynical about all of this but my suggestion is to change this feature to a ONE time purchase to at least keep the "choices have meaning" part of this game alive. |

Players who berated those crying for respecs are now crying because there will be respecs, but seem to think that it matters considering how people would still have ample opportunity to use different gear in the first place.
But that's none of my business.

If anything this only helps balance since it will make whatever is OP very visible. All CCP has to do is change a few numbers either nerfing things or buffing counters, which can happen a lot faster than in the past thanks to the new hotfix trend.
The ultimate goal is to make everything balanced so that everything is viable in one way or another. I think we're really close since I really can't think of anything that is either OP or is dominant in Pubs or PC.
That said, I'm not too happy about it. The increased SP was enough honestly.

Somebody didn't read the scout nerf bit. After 1.9 DUST will be in its best state it ever has. The scout nerf makes running assault more viable and the only suits that need any sort of changes are the logistics and the commandos really. All the weapons are in a good place with some underperformers but best of all, none are really OP since the bolt pistol got a small nerf in the hotfix. |

My objections to respecs was that it took manual dev time to unscrew instead of developing content.
Oh look they automated the process.
Shut up, pay CCP your :tenbux: to reallocate your points and merrily bugger off.
Now I never have to listen to another puke whining about nerfs meaning they deserve respec.
Don't like the nerf? Pony up and shut up.

My view is this is a wonderful middle ground: Yes, you can get a respec. But it is going to require you open your wallet. It helps support the game, and the cost being AUR-based is likely to prevent people from abusing it heavily.

This is honestly a perfect way to respec.
You need to pay (support the game) and you are only refunded 80% of skill book cost, which will be a few million ISK if you are a high SP player. Bigger penalty ISK wise depending on how many SP and skills you have got.

If the complaint is that respecs support FOTM chasers, the solution is to diminish the severity of FOTM advantages. The complaint that respecs diminish the significance of our choices, has always been an empty argument, in the face of an actively maintained game with a frequently changing skill tree.
The occasional thread to remind CCP that their customers are aware of all this, is actually a pretty good use of a forum thread. Looks like those Previous threads weren't a waste of time. |

But that's none of my business.
I was always against respecs but CCP has made it's choice when it comes to Dust. I did start to see an AUR respec coming once (i think it was) Archduke was consistently coming into respec threads with the C&P response saying currently no plans but will be announced through the usual matters.
I don't see myself taking advantage of the respec based solely on my personal opinion and SP amount, but I can see this being beneficial to people in the 10-20 mil SP range.
Although with the proposed booster stacking and higher cap, I'm not certain it was necessary, but at least they can get some additional revenue out of it and keep Dust alive and potentially green light Legion.
Legion, which probably has been green lit without telling us (for oh so many good reasons) since we have seen it in a freaking movie. |

This is the best way for them to do a respec (as many others have already said) Notice in the description is says if you need to fix a few bad SP decisions The increase of weekly SP cap as well as doubling SP per WP will help curb any perceived abuse as well as the fact that it will cost you real money |

Although, I think it would be wise to hand out 1 free respec token or sell respec tokens at a discount (of course depending on what a respec actually costs) at the release of 1.9.
This could bring back vets. More vets in game = better game.

It does hurt the game though. It affects the people you have to play against all using the same suit that is best for the current patch. No variation at all. |
