I sight the following as my evidence for Dust having 3rd person as an option.
I believe the evidence speaks for itself.
Put your flags up in the sky.
And wave them side to side.

It would allow them a greater field of vision to better predict the direction of enemies. Isn't that part of the problem inherent in this idea though. The limited 1st person perspective of this game is part of what generates a connection to your character. I am my merc and all that. By making it a 3rd person game not only to you create a situation where players have unnaturally large field of vision but you also disassociate the player from their character. This would be awful in the sense that I would loose the connection that makes every action I take so visceral and meaningful. I for one am truly opposed to 3rd person views becoming a part of this game. It looks like there are plenty of other games which include 3rd person elements. Why aren't you playing those if you like the experience so much? Cause I like Dust. Also I'm proposing an option not a forced setting. If you wanted to keep first person you could and it would be fine

The second DUST gets Third-Person (with regards to infantry) is the second I am done with DUST. Third-Person would make my preferred POV irrevocably irrelevant. The two cannot coexist in a competitive/tactical PVP game. Those who use First-Person would always be at a disadvantage. This is not true. I cite all four of the Star Wars: Battlefront Games where both coexisted and people did not complain about either being OP.

Shotgun and Knife users would also get a huge benefit from being able to see more.

I cite all four of the Star Wars: Battlefront Games where both coexisted and people did not complain about either being OP. I hardly consider SW:Battlefront a competitive/tactical PVP game. Disclamer: When I think of a competitive/tactical PVP game, I immediately think: CS1.6. When I played the game (just the first one), it felt like a rather laid back, casual arcady shooter. And never mind that those games had both perspectives from the get-go. (and even then, using First-Person would still put you at a disadvantage) Different game, different playerbase, different atmosphere, different stakes. You are comparing apples to head lice.
If the gameplay of Battlefront wasn't tactical then Dust definitely isn't.

/sarcasm Because shotgun scouts and HMG heavies don't do this already.
Corner camping isn't anything that an M1 grenade won't fix. Also in all reasonable scenarios camping would actually be reduced not increased.
All issues that have been brought up so far have either been nit picky, irrelevant or simply untrue.

Ripcord19981 wrote:not really for this idea. I play another game on PC, face of mankind. Both 3rd person and first person are available but 1st person is obsolete and uselees because 3rd person lets u see things around the corner, aim better, more awareness, etc. This wil kill dust if introduced especially cuz CCP will now have another headache they have to handle (balancing the 2 views). What if a high amount of "momentum sway" was added in third person. Kind of like in Gears of War where your camera zooms in and rocks back and forth while travelling. You have this sway only in third person, but not in first person. Sounds more than fair.

Ironic given that people use to complain back when Dust had no iron sights.
Regardless, you fail to remember that people in first person tend to have an inherent ability to track targets better when in ADS because both sides of the screen are widely open, while 3rd person inherently has less zoom and obscures part of your view because of the body of your character model.
3rd and 1st person could be balanced, but people are simply looking at small problems instead of seeing solutions.

I've played plenty of games that allow both. I'm telling you, there is no sensible way to balance them, because these advantage are incomparable. In every single game, the competitive gameplay is dominated by TPSers, to the point that people would make FPS locked lobnies so they dont have to deal with TPS shenanigans. You cannot balance around it in any way that makes any sense. I don't meant to sound like a ****, but if you want to play a TPS, go somewhere else. Solutions, the name of the game is solutions. You can't overcome an obstacle if you never try.

So yeah, it's a feature that I would like to see I'm this game and that I truly believe could be included in this game in a balanced fashion.

I don't recall explicitly stating that Battlefront wasn't at all tactical. But technicalities and irrelevant labels aside: No matter how you slice it, DUST is currently an FPS, which as you know, stands for First-Person Shooter. The POV is directly tied to the genre that this game is in. Allow for Third-Person, and the game is changed fundamentally. It ceases to be an FPS. Changing DUST fundamentally this late into the game with the amount of resources available is nothing short of foolhardy. If you want third person in an EVE infantry shooter, go over to LEGION GD and try to get those mute and secretive devs to tackle the fundamental balance problems associated with FP/TP. They have the manpower and maybe the resources to do it, and the game is not even in Alpha; changes are much easier for a game the earlier it is in development. Already did ;)

One feature I really like from Ghost Recon: Phantoms is moving in 3rd person, but ADS in first person. This might be cool along with the Drone-camera integration. I dig it.

This will never not be a bad idea, alright? There is no possible reason why a third person view should be implemented. Hell, I'd support removing 3rd person from vehicles if they'd put in some workable first-person views for Dropships. And this is why I don't play TPS games. Just make it so that you can only look at what your player is directly looking at and set the camera to show only the upper torso of the player.

I would like to just say how much I would like this, but it would be unfair to those in first person. Let's just drop this Aztec, at least until there is 'private match' in the game. The World isn't ready for 3rd person. Just like they weren't ready for white jeans
