When you hold the eject button it boots the PS3 in its Cleaning Mode, if you like. Consider it like booting your PC in Safe Mode, or something like that.

By repeating, I mean the following:
-Unplug the power cable from the PS3
-Whilst holding the Eject Button, plug power cable back in
-Release Eject Button 2 seconds after fans have turned on
-When fans have turned off unplug power cable
-Reconnect power cable

Do this before and after vaccuuming the system. Big smile

I should have reinstalled it earlier, but whatever. When I went to uninstall, I noted that the install file was at 5.7GB, and now it's around 3.2GB. I'm hoping that this will reduce hard crashes. Elevate your PS3 with 2 blocks to make a gap for air to pass through and avoid placing the PS3 inside any confined space such as that of a backed shelf. Found the fresh copy significantly smaller in footprint. Also took the opportunity to do a back up and full reformat of the SSD I've got in my PS3. This solved the problem for a while but despite these methods it would persist. Eventually, I solved the problem completely by reducing the amount of channels I have. I know this works on both slim versions, not sure on the fatty: -Unplug the power cable -WHILST HOLDING THE EJECT BUTTON, plug the cable back in -When the fans start wait 2 seconds and let go of the eject button -Once the fans have turned off, unplug the power cable again -Take a vaccuum cleaner, and use it to suck all dust out of the vents at the back, do it for about 1 minute. -Plug back in whilst holding the eject button omce more -Repeat the above steps till you have unplugged the power cable again -Put power cable back in, power up as normal. I was getting more frequent hard freezes, PSN cut outs, and crashes with Dust, and then all of a sudden one day the console just spontaneously shut down (while playing Dust). Haven't been able to turn it on since. Also, had no idea the client file size ballooned up to ~6gb. I've never deleted and re-installed Dust since I first downloaded it in 2012 (apart from update installations). The slow blade penetrates the shield.

Currently I'm stuck in the infinite recovery loop, and will be looking at a clean reformat or new hard drive depending on the course of the day. What is this "Eject button" you speak of? None of those fancy upmarket features on my Superslim. My laptop, my gaming PC rig and the PS3 have SSD. Even my mid 2007 iMac now has a 1tb SSD hybrid in there. The important thing, if getting one for the PS3, is to get one with TRIM support built in, as the Sony OS doesn't have it. The difference in loading speed is noticeable, as well as the console being a bit quieter. Textures and maps load much quicker from the cache and UI just seems snappier. The real difference is in installation times especially for Disc based games. Dust installs quicker than normal as you'd expect but The install time for The Last Of Us was halved from its disc. Formatting, recovery and back up is also much faster. Ultimately you can still use the normal drive and enjoy the console and game to the same extent.
