Just wanted to toss this note into the fray, my PS3 has been hard-crashing with Dust514 for a few months now. I should have reinstalled it earlier, but whatever. When I went to uninstall, I noted that the install file was at 5.7GB, and now it's around 3.2GB. I'm hoping that this will reduce hard crashes.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Maken,
Thank you for the good suggestion. I have done this and have also experienced crashing within 10-15 minutes of boot-up
Apothecary,
Interesting, I'll keep notes on the behavior. I'm not worried about the file size, but I had the client installed from back in the 1.2-1.3 days on this particular box
Kevall,
How do you like the SSD in your playstation?
Additional notes,
On a second PS3, my profile would still crash, but it usually took half as long. On my primary PS3, a different account doesn't have freezing issues.
Thanks all,

Update: Played on and off over 5 hours today, responsive and stable, lots of FW. Then, while waiting for deployment, it hard froze on me again.
Atiim,
Thank you, I have not thought to flush my channels, I will try this next. This is probably the last thing I can think of to clear [Fits, Save Game File, Install]. Now that I ramble on, I haven't cleared my vehicle fits... so I'll do that as well.
Can anyone think of any other cache location to clear?
Cache Locations I know of:
Channels < thanks Atiim Fittings Vehicle Fittings Save Game File < on the XMB in the PS3 Menu Install FIle
Thanks All,

Denchlad 7,
I appreciate you sharing that method. I'm curious to the reason for the eject-button dance? Does this clear out capacitors? ("The Capacitor Is Empty") I'll give this a try.
I'm not having hard freezes in other games during extended play, other than the 1/year that most playstations experience.
Thanks to you all for your advice!

EDIT: Denchlad 7, can you clarify [Repeat the above steps till you have unplugged the power cable again] in the above list. I'm wondering how many cycles.

Followed instructions per Denchlad 7, and experienced a "Your file system has been corrupted and will be restored" type error.
I'm restoring now....

The file system restore seems to be very slowly completing.

Turns out this is not recommended for SuperSlim PS3's. Currently I'm stuck in the infinite recovery loop, and will be looking at a clean reformat or new hard drive depending on the course of the day. Hopefully all this will result in the freeze issue stopping after all.

Bump (sorry): I consolidated a guide to my experience and the gamut of solutions for hard freezing and other issues, I hope this helps some people get going again.
