I am not nearly as informed on the mechanics of the game as many of you have deeply invested your interest. I am looking for open advice and opinions on the current assault role.
My noob opinion based on observation and using my Assault Ak.0.... This suit Kicks Ass. I am having a blast playing assault and am very happy I took it to proto.
I am used to playing gal scout since before 1.8, then went heavy and now assault. I am having a hard time seeing how the assaults' cons out weigh its pros.
I use my assault based on the situation, as I do all of my suits. If I am not running ambush I stick with a squad. While running assault, if I leave my squad to lonewolf I am SOL. With teamwork i find my survivability is higher than my scout and less than my heavy. (seems about right)
So what am I missing? where am i falling short?
Assault doesn't have ewar... I don't need it. My squad mate can risk running an paper thin ewar scout.
Decided to tank my suit instead of repair mods... my logi has my back.
The squads sentinel went down... reps on me, i have over 1000HP and alpha damage to mow them down.
Shotgun to the back...my hp can eat 2-3, jump turn and blap scout is dead unless he has positioning, first mover advantage, ect in which case he deserves the kill.
Are people just not willing to change out of there favorite suit? Are they not willing to counter what the other team dishes out? Am I just oblivious to the issues at hand?
thanks for responses Community and thanks CCP for the hotfixes. I honestly didn't think we would make it this far.

Echo, that is a good point but im not sure bonuses would be the deciding factor. I hear assault logis were a thing, did they have rife bonuses? or did bonuses to hives, links ect make up for it? |

I appreciate the constructive replies. my experience is limited and I am far from the knowledge of this game that many of you and the devs have. also my view of dust is probably different than some having enterd the game only a month before 1.8
I agree that there is a lack of assault role in PC. from my experience i see mostly heavy/logi in citys with a few scouts/tanks on outside objectives. A few floater scouts and ADS move through city as needed.
I thought the medium frames role was to stick with a squad or other mercs. Is it not? I saw medium frames as the ultimate team roles. Logis and assaults for the team play enthusiast.
I am probably mistaken but that was what I always liked about dust. That the assaults weren't the end all be all like most twitch shooters. instead they encouraged teamwork. |

hmm i like your logi comparison. having a harder time understanding the other half though. In your example of the tanked scout, if the scout fits plates/extenders instead of damps/precision/range the only advantage I can see at the moment is the scouts base ewar stats, in which case would only give an advantage if playing lonewolf.
i didn't initially see it as forcing teamplay as you can switch roles (mid game) to heavy, scout, vehicles, ect if you wanted to solo play more efficiently. I thought that was the real benefit of grinding for more SP and separated the new player from the veteran. Being able to counter more obstacles on that battlefield.

Hey Cypher, haha. My point wasn't meant to reassure scouts of their roles, just commenting on how much i have been enjoying the new role of assault recently and looking for opinions like yours considering the many negative assault threads lately. Maybe I should have made that more clear.
and on the racial thing... I am a mixed mutt of a man in real life, so be it in the game. loyal to no one but my family, friends and corp. |
