Just a thought, should/could FW be the place where budding PC corps should be training and grinding? Abolutely yes. A simple way to encourage this is to give corporations standings with each faction. Benefits of corp standings could stack with personal standings. The higher your corp's standings with a faction, the more LP you earn. Corp standings would go up with a faction every time a member fights for it (moreso if they win) and down when members fight for an opposing faction (moreso if it's the directly opposing faction).
The simplest tool that I can think of for corp leaders to manage standings is a new system that will send all officers an alert mail when a corp member completes a battle for either opposing faction. (This would require the CEO to have aligned his corp with a particular faction.)
I suggest that the higher levels of corp standings also provide corps with some other bonuses, such as less WP required for strikes, member access to a few elite items in the LP store, and tiered faction loyalty badges that will appear on killboards, "killed by" screen, and character information.
My gut tells me that another new motivator, on top of corp standings, is needed to attract a critical mass to FW. My suggestion would be spreading out some more bonuses among personal standings levels. For example, at standings levels 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, players would receive a new bonus on top of more LP. It might look like this:
(Generic titles are provided, but titles could change for each faction to reflect their "culture") 2 - "Valued Asset" - Hefty one time LP bonus. (Many players would get this retroactively, which might draw them into the FW economy.) 4 - "Membership" - Provides a small LP store discount and unlocks some new LP store items. 6 - "Compatriot" - Standings increase for fighting for this faction or its ally gets a multiplier. Standings decrease for fighting for the enemy also gets a multiplier. 8 - "Honor Guard" - Player will receive a permanent weekly stipend from this faction (as long as standings stay above 7), accompanied by a small gift package of prototype faction items, with a chance that they will be unique faction officer weapons or equipment. 10 - "Inner Circle" - Something so awesome I can't imagine it yet.
An even more fundamental change is needed, however, to make FW battles more attractive and sustainable to the average player, and that is a dramatic increase in LP rewards for a loss. Currently it's so low that it's a complete waste of time to solo FW or go in with a pub squad. Yes, this does encourage squadding up, but the average player can't always squad up. Often I only have 30 minutes or so and soloing is all I can handle. Other times I just can't find a squad. If FW is going to be something that I can play all the time for one or two factions, I can't be paying for my team's failings like that all the time. It's draconian. I'll tell you right now I don't care what you do to FW--if I get table scraps every time my team loses I'm out. It's not worth it. I think I'm a very middle of the road, average player and I'm sure a lot of other players feel this way. I strongly suggest that you do away with this penalty altogether and employ less punitive motivators. |
