What is the downfall to this weapon? It says their is a charge up time but thats laughable. It has excelent range a good magazine size good dps its good in cqc it shoots around corners sometimes. Im not qq I just want to know is there any negative to using this weapon? Im fine with it having a .5 charge time just make my kn the same across all tiers. |

my own oppinion is..
1 rail rifle 2 ScR 3 AR 4 CR 5 misc
but from experance out on the battlefield its more like...
1 rail rifle 2 bolt pistol 3 AR 4 SMG 5 RE <-- 6 SCP 7 CR 8 ScR
id love if CCP could grace us with a faptastic spreadsheet to show us the % of weapons used Pre Delta and Post delta so that we may speculate on the reasons why (and probably whine more about nerf this nerf that)

It's very good in all scenarios which is why you see it so prevalently in the kill feed.
It's noob friendly, deadly in experienced hands, good up close, great at range.
In my entire DUST "career" *shudders* I would guess I have died to a RR more than any other weapon.
Playing since 3/1/14.

I find RRs pretty awful in CQC. Stopping to aim means wasting a lot of time because of the chargeup. And honestly, the RR's damage no longer seems competitive either. At what I would expect for the RR's ideal range, it seems awfully low damage.
But maybe that's just me. I think it got nerfed too many times.

RR was too damn good when it was introduced. It still wreeks today and it needs a nerf in echo

In CQC just swing it back and forth while holding the trigger, aim assists well ensure a good amount of rounds hit.
At a distance it will kill most suits in under 1 second.
It is easy enough to fit.
It has a really decent amount of damage per clip.
It does not overheat, or seize, or go through ammo unbelievably fast.
It is still the very best rifle to use without exception.

Ah, I don't use aim assist, Black SlaverX. Couldn't if I wanted to since it's only for controller kiddies. ;) Maybe that helps.
I am doubtful of it's ability to kill suits at a distance in less than a second, because even when it was a lot more powerful than it is now, it still didn't do that.

Without any proficieny or damage mods a PRO RR does ~ 400 DPS at nearly 80 meters. (kills most scouts and fresh out of the academy players in under a second)
@ proficiency 5 with 3 damage mods it does ~540 DPS.
The aim assists on RR ensures that an unreasonable amount of rounds hit the target at that range. With just this one weapon, you can project over 500 DPS over a 500 m^2 area, encompassing a large part of most maps. It can maintain this amount of DPS for over 5 seconds, at which point it has a 3.2 second reload and then it starts all over.
This is assuming that pro RR still has a 75m range with a 100 meter effective range.
Also, you are part of the reason why we even need aim assists. So is everyone else who uses a mouse/kb. Aim assists matters when balancing weapons.

The sound of the thing. Thats the downside. And since i like quieter type weapons RR not my thing. And its so easy to use. I do like the assault rail but that thing sounds even worse. But not easy to use as much.
As a player that has to pick and choose my engagements constantly the RR takes that away by excelling in every area.
Which is why i hardly use it.
Also hate aim assist its stupid but in this game its hardly enough to complain about. Console players dont NEED AA to compete with KB\M players. So they shouldn't use a PC to game or play stupidly just to make console players feel better?

Controller = acceleration control

Controller = consoles

Funny. I hardly play PC. And when i DO im not playing Dust. I see your point actually. One of the main reasons i dont PC much is cause id rather be in my favorite chair in front of my favorite TV. As of now, im leaning towards PC and console. Im finding sitting upright more comfy.
I dont understand the precision acceleration thing. Then how can they outstrafe console if they move slower. Sorry i though you were one of those your killing the game by playing it types.

I dont understand the precision acceleration thing. Then how can they outstrafe console if they move slower. Sorry i though you were one of those your killing the game by playing it types. Sorry for assuming you were "one of those" types:
Acceleration means as you tilt the stick you go faster/slower, you kind of have to guess when and where you will stop.
Precision means you move your mouse 2 cm = 60 degree turn, regardless of the speed
This means with a controller you have to guess where you will stop, it is prediction based. As such it is incredibly inaccurate.
With a mouse you have exact control of where you will stop, and you can train muscle memory so that you can become extremely accurate (i.e. headshots become cakewalk to the very best.)
Movement is analog for a controller, you speed up and slow down but you cannot perform a immediate change of direction (there is a slight delay because of movement of the stick)
Movement on a keyboard is analog so you just immediately go in the other direction.
What is hilarious about the differences is that a controller much more accurately mimics control than a mouse and keyboard do, but realism is not why we play this game.
Either way, everyone who whines about aim assists that uses a mouse/KB typically don't realize THEY are the reason why we have aim assists.

Mouse = precision control Controller = acceleration control precision >>>> acceleration but Controller = consoles mouse/KB = PC comfy couch/ergonomics >>>> desk chair & carpal tunnel This is also why the consoles have always had a larger marketshare (yes they do, don't debate this and look stupid), and why PC gaming marketshare is only just (in the last few years) starting to come around (Xbox controller support being somewhat standard.)
I used KB/M all the way from Mordu's Private Trials (closed beta build) til Uprising 1.8. (I am a hardcore PC Gamer) Somewhere along that great span of time KB/M was nerfed into oblivion. I think maybe it was either at the end of Chromosome or Uprising 1.5 that KB/M was seriously gimped.
For many PC games aim assist doesn't exist, and even if it does many of us simply do not use it. We are quite adept at aiming without machine guidance, and our target acquisition speed is unparalleled. In Dust, this ability is severely hampered, because it doesn't have proper acceleration.
Acceleration exists for Mouse users as well. This acceleration effects your aim depending on how fast you move your mouse. It doesn't just effect games, it effects everything you do with a mouse. Proper acceleration is your life on any device you use a mouse with, period. Dust NEVER had normal acceleration, and it still doesn't. It has the "mouse smoothing" idiocy, which is negative acceleration, and only makes sense if you have proper acceleration to begin with.
Controllers received an absolutely ridonkulous Aim Assist boost, at some point.
So between the AA-steroid gamepads and the jerky mice.... using a good gun depends entirely on which input method you're using.
Also, the intial price to own a console has generally been lower than a PC (although this has changed significantly over time), and that's why the console gamer market has generally been larger (though that too is also changing gradually).
Not a fan of the RR anymore. I always loved the TAR, and I'm happy it's viable again. It better suits my playstyle. I don't need the sustained-suppressive fire capability of the RR, when I only need the burst DPS power of the TAR's 18 rounds. The TAR can send those 18 rounds downwind so fast, most RR guys can't react in time for the DPS they end up swallowing. And if a few of the TAR's rounds hit them in the head? Forget it. It's in direct encounters like that, where the RR's spin up time kills it. I've seen it repeatedly.
And if you're using a Gallente Commando with a dmg-modded TAR?? G fkin G. Good bye, Rail Rifle....

When has it been good in CQC the charge up time makes you start spraying and hoping you kill someone and if you stop shooting then you are doomed. |
