I am thinking about taking all my weapon related skills to level 5 but I have yet to maximise my passive dropsuit upgrade skills. I want to play Amarr assault with the laser rifle. I have the Amarr assault at level 5 so that is not a problem. I have the following skills left to take to level 5: 1. Dropsuit Core upgrades (level 4) 2. Dropsuit Upgrades (level 2) - I am only taking this to level 4 to unlock biotic upgrades 3. Dropsuit Biotic Upgrades (not skilled into this yet) 4. Kinetic Catalyization (not skilled into this yet) - For fun fittings at prototype level 5. Precision Enhancement (not skilled into this this yet) 6. Profile Dampening (not skilled into this this yet) 7. Range Amplification (not skilled into this this yet) 8. Nanocircuitry (level 2)- For the reduced CPU fitting bonus 9. Shield Recharging (level 1) - For fun fittings at prototype level I do not really see the advantage of ewar skills on an assault but who knows it might be useful. Should I max the remaining core skills first or should I maximise my weapon skills first? |

Here are the Core Skills you should get before going PRO in your Weapons & Dropsuits:
Dropsuit Electronics: +25% CPU Dropsuit Engineering: +25% PG Dropsuit Shield Upgrades: +25% Max Shield HP Dropsuit Armor Upgrades: +25% Max Armor HP
If you only plan on using Assaults for slaying, the only eWAR skill you'll need is Profile Dampening because it allows you to dodge Active Scanners.

This. Don't bother running proto if you didn't max those categories |

No need to increase fitting skills any further than needed to fit whatever it is you are trying to fit.
If you are increasing your fitting skills to fit proto weapons before proto shield or armor mods stop what you are doing.
No need to go past ADV weapon until you have your base shield and armor upgrades maxed as well as your extenders and/or armor plates to complex.
Once you have that then I'd get a racial suit to ADV.

Don't listen to any of these fools. You need to max out all weapons first and slowly build your core. It is more important to have the best weapon than to have the skills to survive. Just kill before being killed. Max out kincats so you can sprint faster.
You already have a proto suit, you dont really need any core skills to be honest. Just still 4 basic plates on it with some militia light damage modifiers and you are good to go. |

What he said! You'll regret having all those weapons maxxed, and dying due to lack of passive dropsuit skills?! If your just playing slayer then max the core upgrades, the suit you want, and then your slaying weapon of choice. However, you are limiting yourself to ambush for the most part?! If you ever want to do PC you will want to have some versatility to help the team in 3 different forms: AV, area denial, and slayer just for starters.
Your core upgrades make all fits better regardless to which it is. I am about 2 months out from literally finishing every upgrade on the skill tree! Having the option to run a completely proto assault or scout is nice! The upgrades make this a possibility. Even my advanced level commando does better because of the upgrades.
If your just starting, and playing Amarr assault, I would suggest core upgrades, the dropsuit skill you have to 5(which you have), weapon of choice to prof 5, nanocircuitry and uplinks to 5(especially uplinks for amarr), and swarm launcher to atleast level 3 to help the team with AV. (No good to any team without it)
The further you go the more you can do obviously. If you're strictly a slayer right now let your squad leader and field commanders in PC know that right away so they dont put you on a role your not equipped for. o7

Hmmm this seems like terrible advice. Sorry but why waste so much SP before getting a proto suit? And unless you are a heavy, you do not need to max shield upgrades and armor upgrades. On top of that maxing PG and CPU takes millions of SP too.
Get your proto weapon, whatever you like to play with and put your proficiency to level three. It's relatively cheap SP wise and makes a huge difference. Continue to run advanced weapons until you get your proto suit.
I also disagree with the last statement about eWar. I run a Assault ck.0 with two complex precision enhancers. I see everything on the battlefield except extremely dampened scouts which there are few of as most are brick tanked. |

Okay, after reading this I'd suggest getting your weapons skilled up if the above are the only things you are lacking.
I wouldn't try to shield tank your amarr assault at all. You'd be better off with damage mods there.
You are correct that ewar skills aren't important on assualt suits currently. However they can give you a slight jump on other medium frames and heavy frames that don't have any skills into them.

I wish more new players did what you have done here! The competitive play in this game wouldn't be such a landslide from match to match, and there would be a lot less QQing about tanks, ADS, and other things?! So many players have a plethora of knowledge from how to to tank economically to how to take out really good tanks. They know how to hunt scouts, take down logi trains, hold points with minimal manning, etc. New players with low SP do loads better when they simply join a corp and come to the forums.
As veteran players, directors, ceos, and recruiters it is kinda our responsibility to make sure these guys atleast get a bit of a brief. If they don't wanna listen I got it he can be tax until he gains some sense, and grows tired of being slaughtered?! I actually try harder to recruit noobs than vets if I'm honest. Vets are nice, but alot of them have some horrible bad habits?!
If you run into any new players in-game encourage them to come to the forums.

Stay away from proto weapons. Just put the miliita variant on your proto suit and the skills you specced up will carry to that weapon acting in a like proto capacity. Save some money. Make sure you spec Hacking Skills to Lvl 5 first so that you can access the Lag Switch that comes with proto level. |

Honestly take your favorite weapon and proto it with a sidearm, then continue the core skills. Then slowly spec your weapons as you want or whatever FOTM is. |

Ok, on a serious note, a standard rifle with maxed proficiency will WRECK dudes in dropsuits. Also, it helps if you have good aim!
To the OP, the skill system in DUST is built around the principle of diminishing returns. For your enjoyment and ours, unless you have a specific reason or suffer from OCD, don't sweat the Level 5s you don't already have and consider versatility on the battlefield over having one awesome fit.
Adapt or die. I will counter your Viziam Laser Rifle all day long.

amp, enhance, and and damps won't do a huge amount if you're running assaults.
Once you've got all your core stuff up just see which mods you use the most often and up those, I wouldn't worry too much about the "might make fun fittings at proto" stuff just max out the stuff you use now first.
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
