it is a relief for me to say that the game, the company, staff counting CPM's, and the player base including myself have gave me nothing but migraines every time I play this game. This was going on since last year on this exact date, so about a year. SO might as well get everything laid on on the table about my thought (if ya care) and feelings about CCP and DUST 514. Disclaimer: expect a lot of complaining, crying, and etc.... Also in before stop playing dust and no you cannot have my ISK.
When I first heard about this game from my friend Shad Newton, I was skeptical about playing it. I gave it whirl and became addicted to it, so much addicted that I have 47 million skill points to show for it. All of this back in chromosome. while playing the open beta, Shad, myself, and anyone who was in One Arm Bandits at the time were looking forward to everything CCP was intentionally going to offer to DUST 514. You know things such as free market, PvE, Corp Battles just to name a few. There was a lot more offer but man I was really looking forward to all of it. But as time went by, starting from uprising 1.0 to about 1.7, the game became dull. I went from enjoying the game to finding myself playing it like chore and getting mad over some inanimate. So where did CCP go wrong?
Better question where to start?
1.) Let's start with the game modes. At first glance back in chromosome, the game modes were pretty amazing. Yea we had nothing but skirmish and team deathmatch but it was start. When Uprising 1.0 touchdown we obtained domination. But after that, faction warfare, PC, and etc were just rehashes of skirmish. Being honest I can see COD getting away with that but CCP you know better and you honestly do. Stating that giving new modes of something that is a rehash of a gamemode already in the game does not pass off as a new game mode! If all I wanted to do was just play skirmish, I would just play skirmish under public contracts. Rehashing the same mode multiple times makes the game overall repetitive to play and yes as much as I love Destiny, it is also guilty of this. My suggestion add new modes like CTF, COD's Hardpoint, freaking LAV racing if you wanted to just gave out new game modes and make sure nothing is rehashed.
Want more? Remember this old jewel from back then? I do, I watch that exact trailer from my Shad and was expecting that. This what caused my head to explode with excitement and a year later disappointed as Kayne calling out Taylor Swift. How in the world did we go from that to this having to know what days to play? Respect to CEO Pyrex. That trailer had game modes that could had pleased EVERYONE, what happened? Did CCP just give up on it?
2.) Customization. They thought outside the box for customization. You can do literally everything and anything you wanted provided you had the skill points for it and willing to grind for it. You can specialize yourself to anything you wanted your role to be and that was a HUGE selling point and distinction from other AAA shooters. Name me any other AAA that allowed you do do that? Not many, this was a great point for CCP. And your choices came with consequences in the long run (moving this in the complain later bin). But uh look again at this video. Look in between 0:43 and 0:47. yes that was a forge gun held by a medium suit. Why can we not do that? Why even lie in your trailers? This would have been cool to see. Hell I would love to see a scout wielding a forge gun or a medium suit wielding a HMG. I see that as a missed opportunity. But man did CCP made your choices in customization worthless overtime which goes into the next point.
3.)Player Base and Updates. Just going bluntly say it, this is BY FAR THE MOST PATHETIC PLAYER BASE/ COMMUNITY FOR GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR A GAME AND I KNOW I CANNOT TAKE THAT BACK! Disclaimer: And the following I'm going to say I as well be be guilty for this as well. Seriously surf the forums, from time to time I see some good ideas but they are overshadowed by complaints, OPness, trolling and much more. And yes it is to be expected but not on the scale as this community is. A great example would be when people know something is breaking the game but doesn't want it patch because it gives them an edge. ["Well if you don't like the game then leave!" I'm sorry I didn't take your order, you said you would like some salt with salt?]
When something like that happens expect an update or a hotfix to save the day. CCP, you do realize when you fix something that was OP you pave way for something else to be OP causing a neverending cycle? Look at every update and tell me you did not see any problems there? Then again it not partially your fault. It is us the player base. We constantly whine (ironic is it not) about things being OP or this should have not killed me, and etc. Let me ask a serious question, does the world/solar system revolve around you? My .02 ISK tells me no it does not and that's the problem with the community. We're so focus on on self, self being our fits/FoTM, that we will do anything in our power to make us into gods in this game. NO game should be that way. Because of the constant whining on nerf this and buff that, we the community are responsible for CCP passing up on new games modes and such because of that constant whining. I wonder what would happen if we weren't focus on FoTM and trying to be in god mode all the time?
4.) CPM's. Disclaimer: I respect a small, very small few of people in the CPM positions. They are the voices of the community that discuss our concerns to CCP and in turn have things go the way we want them to go. Some of these people actually do this while others, (just going to say Kain S) use that tag for self-empowerment.

4.) Continued. Or even better hold a certain amount of Bias towards other players and their play styles. Not even half a day ago between a CPM and a player, I was able to pick up the fact that some CPMs hold a bias toward vehicle users. If you are going to be the voice for the community do not hold any prejudices toward ANY PLAY STYLE IN THE GAME! More importantly as a CPM please for the love of god do not put self before community. Otherwise this could have been better.
And you know what Viktor I really do feel like crying right now, not because you ask (as much as I respect you do not flatter yourself please), but because for out of the 2 1/2 years I held hope for this game for about 1 1/2 years. Hope man , hoping that we would get new modes that gave people who did not like PvP something to do or people who do PvP multiple modes to chose from. Hoping that we would affect over EVE side. Hoping that we could literally explore the unknown. Hoping that we would have a MEANING IN THE GAME! I'm sorry for QQ Viktor but after Uprising 1.7 hope for this same was seeping out of me quickly like Alucard going on a blood rage on Hellsing Ultimate (or the abridge if you prefer).
This game not only had potential but this game, due to multiple missed opportunities, could have revolutionize FPS overall. Think about it for a minute. Pretend that Destiny and DUST collided with one another while still keeping everything DUST/EVE related. That would blow so many people away in a good way. Hell if they were selling this game I would buy it in a heartbeat if it was this way. But for CCP to just quit and return to PC for legion (which we have not heard much about since FanFest 2014) was a smart move but literally delivered a killing blow to hope for this game for me and many others. This told me that CCP was either a.) low in funds to support elaborate updates or b.) they quit exploring the unknown. I would rather take exploring the unknown than quitting anyday.
Hell I feel stupid for spending money for AUR to get boosters just to get to 47 million SP, 50k kills sitting on 4.7 million WP and a KD/R of 3.66 (Man I suck) only to find this game in hotfix mode.. To further increase my stupidity I should have known they would just throw away the data gather from open and close beta. I say this because that because almost everything was switched around in Uprising 1.0. we went from a 7 year to complete skill tree to a "we do not know how long it will take anymore" skill tree.
CCP as much as I love you guys and yes I will still play this game time to time, you guys have everything in front of you to make this game amazing you just need to grab it and take it. Until that happens nothing is really calling me back to play this games besides the events. And please stop making events just to increase the player base because if that is the case I see this game being on life support in the near future and I personally do not wish to see that. Give out more games modes even if it means , giving out a huge update to the server. Until that happens I do not see a SIGNIFICANT increase in players meaning we will play the same people over a N number times. As stated I will play this game still but not as much as I normally did.

You might be taking this game to seriously, i have had hope for dust for many years and still do. But about 1-3 months after the release of dust realization hit me, the things we were suppose to get just are not happening anytime soon if at all, back then i was a high level director of corp with 200+ dust players and about 50-100 EVE characters active on both side of the game. but it did not change my world i was rather sad but i kept playing because i don't take video games all that seriously as they are just video games. It's not even about getting your hopes it about just knowing it is a video game and even if dust became what everyone wanted it to become at the end of the day it is still a video game we play for the entertainment value it currently provides it is not work we are not here slaving away for a future happiness. You can't be living in the future but must embrace the present.

To reading Viktor's response, I'm going to say um, yea...you're taking this just a wee bit too seriously. It's the same sentiments I had for folks going crazy after FF.
Bottom line, I love Dust 514. Said a million times over. I also know not everything lasts for ever. I know things change and evolve. Another bottom line? I know that what CCP truly envisioned for the console couldn't come to be so this is what we got. How we got here doesn't matter. The ride has been great and its still rolling.
If Legion happens, great. If Dust goes over to PS4, great. If it gets better on PS3, great. Other than that, I don't lose sleep over it all. I will hold my fond memories of it and talk about it for years to come, probably when I'm old fussing at younger kids about how difficult games used to be.
You gotta be smooth, in a sense, about all this. Not worth getting overly emotional about.

I agree with this. I mean, we're spending money on a video game. Nothing tangible. Just in game items or in game economy. That's almost a joke in itself but who cares? I still buy aurum when I want to and will continue to do so when I want to.
I'm spending real world money with the knowledge that its expendable. I'm doing it for my entertainment.

You know we can easily focus on what CCP has done wrong, its self evident for most aspects of the game and even CCP have virtually admitted that things didn't go to plan for DUST. I also believe CCP as a company suffer from expectation management issues.
However we rarely spend time talking about what CCP got right. Customisation is a great example. The RPG like character development. The fact that this is more of a sustained fire fight type of game instead of the one shot two shot dead twitch style of games like call of duty makes it unique. The Skirmish game mode is a favourite of mine being an old Battlefield player.
I always feel that, without even going into things that would take a lot of man power to do that CCP missed out on fantastic opportunities.
The NPE / Start of the game is very unforgiving and always has been. A few proper tutorials and some proper thought on the new player area of the game would have gone a long way to aid this game years ago.
Bug fixes and the glaring huge / obvious imbalances in the past too contributed to making players leave. We have got to a point where balance is much better now (while maybe not perfect but certainly good).
I could go on as I think there are many things CCP got right but also just as many crucial things CCP missed out on. The market / player trading would have been one of those key areas too.
And lets not forget the original premise of the game to begin with as I feel we have forgotten about this particular aspect - interconnectivity with EVE Online.

POST RANT: Alright since it is not 2am in the morning and I'm not in complete rage (and too emotional), I will try to summarize the points I was trying to get across to everyone. Sorry for the words said in the first couple of post and the horrible grammar (irony). Before I begin, I am sorry for my attitude and for words I cannot take back. Sorry if anyone was offended. Lets start.
- Game Modes: I wish to see more game modes besides Skirmish, Ambush (both regular and OMS), and Domination. In other-words give out more variety. I would be fine if CCP copied game modes from other triple a shooters. Examples includes but not limited to Capture the Flag, Free For All, Destroying/Defending Objectives (COD's Demolition/Search and Destroy). Player versus Environment was something a vast majority of the community wanted and they could, for all I care, set it up Borderlands style. To add on to that thought, players could accept contracts from different factions to take out a massive threat anywhere or do optional missions similar to Destiny. All of that while maintaining the EVE feel. That was the reason why I posted this video. From my perspective I do not care if you copied a game mode from other games, I am completely fine with that so as long you add your own design or twist to the said game mode. This what was really on my mind for game modes but I did fail to understand how much man power this would take. My feeling thus far: meh...
- Customization:Refering to the same video but start from 0:43, seeing a medium suit using heavy weaponry is a cool concept (to me anyways). I would wish to see a scout wielding a forge gun. I sat there wondering what could have been the system for customization or what the initial thoughts were going to be for it. You are not limited by anything in this game but yourself and your capabilities. There are a X number of Fits for a Y Number of suits with a Z number of weapons and modules. It is same to assume infinity but we the player base limit how far we can get almost like a integral. Examples would be Fit of the month(s) since that particular fit dominates the field. Once that term came into play, we immediately limit the number of fits possible.
Creativity died at that point. But to be fair CCP should take some blame due to constant weaken/buff something while not accounting for other methods as well as not realizing that these edits could affect a N number of things that the player did not chose to do. A great example would be Caldari Logistics in early Uprising. For the people who wanted that suit just to Logi in paid the price for people using it as Fit of The Month and were stuck with that choice until the next re-spec. Feeling for this point:
- Player base and Updates: I went all over the place at this point. Lets start with updates. Updates added in multiple variables such as new suits, weapons, vehicles, and much more. This in turn increased variety but consequently increased the possible chances of Fit of The Month. Understand that no matter how many ties you update or fix something there will always be some Fit of The Month in there. From here we can tie in the player base. CCP knowing that they cannot catch everything depended on the community responses hence the CPM positions. CPMs would tell CCP the expressed concerns of the community via fix this or add that.
Somewhere in this line of communication, there was a failure. Player base wise we were too focused on self instead of seeing things from 2 or more different point of views and I am guilty of this. Examples would include tanks in 1.7. Recall that some tankers did not want to lose their near impenetrable vehicle(s) while everyone else knew what the problem was and suggesting what could be done to fix this. Another would include the long standing fight between vehicle users and AV users. Ponder on those two points for a while and mark out some self-center moments as well.
Combine the two together and there is you update. Due to our constant whining of too powerful anything or self-centered players we cost our self the possibility for new anything. Why? Most of the man power CCP had at the time went to nerfs and buffs while it could had went elsewhere in DUST. Ponder that for a moment.
- CPMs: They are to tell CCP community ideas and concerns while they can give their own Some CPMs are helpful but are the shadows of other CPMs who are not helpful. Will not give out names about the non-helpful but the gist here was to mark out that CPMs should express the concerns while giving their non-biased point-of-view(s) on subjects. Cross Atu I find to be helpful in the Logi department, ISW in discussing concerns (could lose credibility here), and some others who were helpful but cannot remember their names (sorry). It pains for me to see players attacking the CPM and vise versa especially on touchy subjects (coughvehiclesAVcough). We should work in tandem with another but until that happens this game and the possibility that Legion in the future could go nowhere fast.
The final part was completely unnecessary on my end. But CCP realize that a huge mass of opportunities were there and it seems that they were passed up. Event should not be the reason to increase or maintain the player base i.e. the Million clone challenge on the same week Destiny came out. Constantly affecting player choices almost making them meaningless and/or doing nothing about a problem for a time frame too long drives away your vets (which is good and bad) but could also drive away potential new players if they listen to the vets or decided that they did not like this game. Give out more game modes, just mix it up a little. Who knows there might be an increase in players do to this.

After the Legion announcement I realized that we would not get most of what we were promised for a long long time, if ever.
So than I asked myself: GÇ£Do I enjoy the game we have not?GÇ¥
If the Legion announcement had come during 1.7 the answer would probably have been GÇ£noGÇ¥, but thankfully 1.8 had been released by that point, so the answer after I thought about it was: GÇ£yes, I am having fun playing this game as it is now.GÇ¥
So I set all my hopes and expectations aside, and focused on DUST as it was, rather than DUST as it could be, and with each hot fix I have been enjoying DUST as it is even more!
I am saving my hopes and dreams for Legion, but I will be a lot more cynical the second time around. I wonGÇÖt be impressed by flashy trailers and empty promises. To impress me with Legion CCP will have to have the stuff I want in a working build and not on some mocked up concept video!

What i really loved the most was all the great warriors, people, corporations, and alliances that fought on the other side of the fence as me. forget all the trolling and hate underneath all that there is a level of respect for people who bring the fight to you and make you push yourself. without enemies this game would have no meaning. o7

Wow, One Armed Bandits, that takes me back, I still remember the comm's where we were all so hyped about what was to come to the game, seems like an eternity ago now, I feel your pain Dj and after failfest have to agree, spot on

I don't blame some people on the forums for complaining about OP weapons , because quite frankly there almost hasn't been a patch or every new update when something wasn't OP. There are still stuff right know that might be just that. |

i agree, definatly.
this has been more than just a game at this point. the community (not the forums...) is absolutly AMAZING, massive alliances with thousands of people, bittervets getting to know each other by trading blows time and time again, massive chat rooms where you cant hear anything specific over the insane amounts of laughter. its been an absolutly amazing ride it really has.
Unfortunatly the communities we built are falling apart, the game is now in a place where it will no longer change and grow. but hot damn its been good while its lasted.
im mostly casual now, and after having so much sp its really easy to play this game as a casual so im sticking around if only for the occasional game now and then. Im looking forward to legion and yet im still kinda sad that most of the playerbase ive gotten to know over the last 3 years cant join me because simply not everyone can afford a gaming rig, most of my original clan (Inf4m0us) dont even have a PC.
Im looking for the biggest collection of jokers left in the game to occasionally chill out, drink beer, and have some laughs with though so if your that group let me know, lets keep the good times going till the end.
