He nerfed how hard you need to press L1/L2.
Do you understand what pressure sensitivity means? It applies more or less thrust depending on how hard the button is pressed. We do know. Your theory falls apart however, when you take into consideration that the L1/R1 buttons are not pressure sensitive. They are binary. |

It's L2 and R2 that aren't pressure sensitive. I thought those ones were. Still, L1 and R1 definitely are.
Can everyone just take a moment to chuckle at this fellow? |

Fine.
Dualshock 3 controller, under Input 6+ù Pressure-sensitive buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square, L1, R1)
I've just realized that that wiki page is worded funny. It isn't wrong, but its not exactly clear about things. All buttons are pressure sensitive. By their very nature, buttons must be pressure sensitive. They need to sense pressure. Duh.
The "analog" buttons are the ones with a varying degree of pressure sensitivity. |

The "analog" buttons are the ones with a varying degree of pressure sensitivity. DS4 controllers apparently do not have this feature, or so I am told. They definitely do. Many new shooters have taken to emulating realistic triggers with them. Some weapons require a full pull, while some have more of a hair trigger. Some Hand Cannons and Scout Rifles in Destiny for example have a hair trigger upgrade that does exactly what it sounds like.
All of the binary buttons such as the d-pad and the shape buttons are now "digital" now too. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but they seem to behave the same...
On a related note: The OP has actually drove me into a complete nostalgia spiral. I'm looking at all the old PS controllers and just remembering how they feel. It's nice. |

Exactly the same thing here. We got Ape Escape and one of the controllers with the "Analog" buttons that let you turn off the sticks. Gosh, I must have been 6 years old. All this talk makes me really want to get a Playstation, a copy of Spyro, a copy of FFVII, a copy of Tony Hawk, and a Dualshock. |

CamClarke wrote:Oh man, I hated those because I never got used to the lack of thumbsticks. I got my PS1 when they started being packaged with the Dualshock and Resident Evil: Director's Cut had just come out (my mother wanted to play it). The rumble combined with that multi-dog attack jumpscare was terrifying back then. To be fair, I was also 6 or 7 at the time.
Getting back on track, if you ever played MGS3 HD, in first persion view you can aim the full-auto rifles without firing by lightly holding R1 and firmly pressing to fire. If you're aiming a pistol, it works differently, and if you have held down R1 to prepare to fire but can't make the shot, you can slowly back off of R1 to lower your gun. L1 and R1 are most definitely sensitive to pressure differentials in the Dualshock 3.
I'm even double checking it in a Skirmish right now in a Gorgon. It is most definitely true.
The point I was trying to make is that pilots complaining about sluggishness are those used to the old controls of full thrust all the time, and to be fair this was an undocumented change and many may not have even noticed. Hmm. Maybe there is variable sensitivity on all the buttons. I find it hard to believe that even the original PlayStation had that though. If this is the case, it must be a minute amount. |
