Some bloody idiot enabled the DS3 pressure sensitivity on the thrusters when it was previously binary (full or none).
Now you have to mash the hell out of L1 for top speed. |

That's right, he didn't nerf the maneuverability or speed of them.
He nerfed how hard you need to press L1/L2.
Do you understand what pressure sensitivity means? It applies more or less thrust depending on how hard the button is pressed. |

Do you understand what pressure sensitivity means? It applies more or less thrust depending on how hard the button is pressed. We do know. Your theory falls apart however, when you take into consideration that the L1/R1 buttons are not pressure sensitive. They are binary. |

It's L2 and R2 that aren't pressure sensitive. I thought those ones were. Still, L1 and R1 definitely are. |

l1 and r1 are shoulder buttons?
why would they have pressure sets?
if you wanted pressure sets they would be the 'trigger' buttons.

I've just realized that that wiki page is worded funny. It isn't wrong, but its not exactly clear about things. All buttons are pressure sensitive. By their very nature, buttons must be pressure sensitive. They need to sense pressure. Duh.
The "analog" buttons are the ones with a varying degree of pressure sensitivity. |

DS4 controllers apparently do not have this feature, or so I am told.

It is worded rather funny, now that you mention it. Still, please, call in a MLT dropship and compare the engine wash lengths which correlate with how much thrust you're getting with how hard you press L1. It's not hard to test. |

Many new shooters have taken to emulating realistic triggers with them. Some weapons require a full pull, while some have more of a hair trigger. Some Hand Cannons and Scout Rifles in Destiny for example have a hair trigger upgrade that does exactly what it sounds like.
All of the binary buttons such as the d-pad and the shape buttons are now "digital" now too. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but they seem to behave the same...
On a related note: The OP has actually drove me into a complete nostalgia spiral. I'm looking at all the old PS controllers and just remembering how they feel. It's nice. |

Oh man, I hated those because I never got used to the lack of thumbsticks. I got my PS1 when they started being packaged with the Dualshock and Resident Evil: Director's Cut had just come out (my mother wanted to play it). The rumble combined with that multi-dog attack jumpscare was terrifying back then. To be fair, I was also 6 or 7 at the time.
Getting back on track, if you ever played MGS3 HD, in first persion view you can aim the full-auto rifles without firing by lightly holding R1 and firmly pressing to fire. If you're aiming a pistol, it works differently, and if you have held down R1 to prepare to fire but can't make the shot, you can slowly back off of R1 to lower your gun. L1 and R1 are most definitely sensitive to pressure differentials in the Dualshock 3.
I'm even double checking it in a Skirmish right now in a Gorgon. It is most definitely true.
The point I was trying to make is that pilots complaining about sluggishness are those used to the old controls of full thrust all the time, and to be fair this was an undocumented change and many may not have even noticed. |

Exactly the same thing here. We got Ape Escape and one of the controllers with the "Analog" buttons that let you turn off the sticks. Gosh, I must have been 6 years old. All this talk makes me really want to get a Playstation, a copy of Spyro, a copy of FFVII, a copy of Tony Hawk, and a Dualshock. |

Hmm. Maybe there is variable sensitivity on all the buttons. I find it hard to believe that even the original PlayStation had that though. If this is the case, it must be a minute amount. |

So I was on my ADS alt earlier on using a Python. (Heh I even tried using a Python with a proto small blaster mounted on the front but I wouldnt advise that)
Things I noticed:
- The Python with missiles still feels great to fly, I have proto afterburner and the skill to reduce cooldown and I felt that change was very balanced. -The Python RoF with the missile I DO still feel is a little too slow. Its extremely hard work to do sufficient damage to tanks and trying to take on the previously buffed hit points of the installations can also be a challenge. Not impossible by any means but a huge challenge at times.
Over all I think the changes are actually ok for Pilots. The only one big thing that I would call a downside is how strong missiles are against shield dropships. They seem to do strong damage, which is ok i guess but they seem to chase for so much longer now, I was getting hit still at 400-600+ meters away from the initial swarmer.
I also also come to the conclusion that swarms need to turn a hell of a lot slower if you actually want pilots to have to dodge shots because they still track and turn just fine.
So overall - The changes are not as bad as people were making out.
The RoF I totally believe needs to be at like 5% per level if I am honest if we are to keep the rest of the changes as is.
Also as for the Blaster, it seems strong and great ..... for a side door gunner. However it fires way too accurate to really do any spray and prey work as the ADS pilot gunning.

Just get an emulator for your PC and get a program to use the PS3`s controller with your PC and voila! (I did this for crash bandicoot 3 warped lmao what a game)

ePSXe is a fantastic emulator and ds3tool is the best for hooking up your Dualshock 3 to your PC. You'll have to play wired though.
Also, ew, FF7. FF Tactics best FF.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I think all of those games you mentioned are available on the Playstation Store under PSone Classics for $5-10 each.
Also, updated OP so that info doesn't get lost amongst the thread. |
