The upgrade is coming. I've tossed the idea around so many times and come up with a different conclusion each time I think about it. I can watch videos, read articles, ask friends etc... about which do they prefer, and talk myself into a different decision each time.
Possibly I'll get both sooner or later, but the projected Christmas list is looking pretty stout already and unfortunately I can only allow myself one over another. So for all of you out there with experience on both platforms what are your opinions on the few areas that leave me choosing one over the other.
Personally I start leaning heavily towards pc, but these are the areas that make me question. Cheaters, hackers, whatever you call them. People using aimbot, wallhack, etc, types. I've heard/read you get those on pc, whereas I've never experienced that stuff on ps3. Sony does a pretty decent job as far as security and keeping the trash out of games. Yet, this is coming from someone who doesn't play online pc games to compare.
Social aspect, I can log on and see who online hop in game w someone without having to look them up. Is there anything like that in pc world? Or do you have to text or email someone "hey, you online, what are you playing?
Bang for buck, I'm not gonna go out and buy the top of the line $1000+ dollar pc, are the rigs I read people building in the $400-$500 range gonna be a disappointment, or am I not gonna be able to tell the difference? I like the small step upgrade ability factor about pc and will eventually get to a better build when funds allow, but is the initial purchase gonna leave me saying, "I shoulda went w ps4 first"?
Video sharing/editing on ps4? How it it, a joke? Or is it a built in capture card?
Amount of people playing pc? Popularity? You know when there is a larger pool of people playing a game, its easier to get put in a lobby of people closer to you and you have less laggy/latency more fun matches. Are there say 100,000 people playing whatever title on ps4, but only 10,000 on the same game on pc?
I'll stop here at the moment, I'd hate to overwhelm whoever is gonna take the time to answer these stupid questions. And a pre-thanks to whoever indulges my ignorance.

They are both really good but the bad thing about pc games is that no matter the anti cheat software, you will get hackers. It's not some magic thing and it's not hard to get away with.
People simply hotkey scripted hacks and switch them on and off at will and there is barely any real way to stop it.
With that said, its barely noticeable and not as many people do it as you'd think.
People swear blind it doesn't happen but it does. I have successfully had around 50+ people banned from planetside 2 on pc in the roughly 5 months i have been playing. It's always very subtle but i have been pc gaming for ages and i know when someone is doing too well, the 50+ banned people speaks for itself.
I can tell when someone is using no recoil, a bit of extra speed, no clip, lag switch, you name it, i'll spot it.
Your best bet if you are going into pc gaming is to first do a bit of research into cheating, scripts and hacks. Then with every game you get, search online for hacks etc so you are clued up about the crap that so called 'gamers' will be trying to pull off.
Beware, people who swear blind it doesn't happen are either young, ignorant, doing it themself or any combination of the 3.
Console gaming is far more casual friendly, much more jump in and play and generally facilitates social tools right off the bat and built into games you buy.
It's late, i hope that helps. I didn't really read much of what you put either, sorry lol.
Edit: concerning the poppulations. there are roughly 200 million pc gamers in the world. There are at least 250 million psn players alone, not counting xbox. You have to realise that the pc gamers are divided among a whole plethora of games while on console, they are much more concentrated around the comparably limited amount you get on console. Generally speaking, games have much more longevity on pc as console gamers tend to be young fotm types who see games as more of a fashion, in season kind of thing rather than actually looking for something for the long run.

Hackers are always a thing in PC games, but there's ways to mitigate it. Unlike most other FPSes, Legion for example, should involve progression over time. So the penalty being banned is much more severe than just getting a new account, because you start from scratch again.
Some games are using some neat tricks to avoid outright banning too, like condemning cheaters to play in special rooms only with other cheaters, hence providing them no real advantage except perhaps who has the best hacks.
Call of Duty by far was the worst game for hacks, because it's so mainstream, the engine is the same as it was a decade ago, so the hacks all still work. But in most other games, it tends to be pretty infrequent.
Controller players on PC will be playing at a disadvantage, but it's not impossible. I actually have my PS3 set up at a desk since I play DUST with keyboard and mouse, but one of my gaming computers is on the big TV, with the keyboard and mouse (wireless, of course) on the coffee table.
