CCP shouldn't abandon Dust because we the Community created Dust with all this Feedback. If it wasn't for the feedback then right now there wouldn't of been a 1.8 and we would of been stuck with 1.7.
Keep it going Iron Wolf Saber !!
Keep in mind that this is IWS's vision for Legion's open world. It's not necessarily reflecting that of CCP's overall plan.

Its DAME unfair how Legion gets all the fun stuff while Dust doesn't. I don't like using bad language but its just unfair. Look at other games. They have alot of stuff but in Dust oh no it can't because have Minmatar and Amar HAV, Dropship, LAV, ect..and maps because its limited. Was MAG limited when it was released NO, how about The Last of Us NO, Killzone 3 NO, or how about the Uncharted series Effin NOPE. I can keep going and going about how the ps3 is a console that has been pushed and that's what Dust needs to do. Push it to the limit, use every thing in the ps3 system and in the end Boom its possible.
You can say it's unfair all you want. But the fact of the matter remains that CCP just wasn't good enough for the console market. Many of us, including me, felt that CCP should have built Dust for the PC first because then they would have been able to update it faster and with less hassles which then would have meant it would be ready in time for the PS4 release. But no, we went console first.

Also the console approval process seriously impedes CCP's ability to release timely updates or have a test server. The PC will be able to evolve with the game going forward. It's the right decision, as sad as that reality is. Fairness really doesn't come into play, it's simply how it is.
I'm certain it would've handled a large number of players like it did with MAG. It's just the fact that the connection with Eve Online and the lagfest we regularly experienced would have made it a problem to have that many players on one map for Dust.
As for the test server, many of us wanted CCP to implement a test server as a separate client like how Eve Online does now, but there lies a problem. The Singularity Test Server is not known for being optimized or stable. PCs have no problem handling it but consoles would definitely have problems with it. The PS3 is designed to handle optimized and stable games. It's not designed to handle poorly-coded clients let alone maintain connection with an iffy server. Many of the problems we had before while in Singularity went away as soon as we moved to the Tranquility Live Server. Of course, Dust was still poorly coded during the migration but it didn't have as much problems after compared to before. Back when we were still in Singularity, PS3s were turning into useless bricks on a regular basis. That started to decline shortly after migrating to Tranquility.
