The breach shotgun is absolutely useless and I almost never see it. It doesn't have enough damage per clip to take out a heavy and the small clipsize is needlessly punishing. I'd recommend a clip size buff to 4 or increase the rof/damage.

The breach SG has always been subpar to other shotties. The only 'benefit' is questionable as well.
People would enjoy Dust a lot more if they accepted the fact that EVERYTHING is subject to change

a small damage buff and 4 round clip is good enough. if you haven't used it, it can take a heavy down with both shots as to 3 from standard shotties

What I'd like to be done to the Shotgun is make it be useful on suits outside of scout suits.
To make the Shotgun more universal for at least medium suits I'd have two variants.
The "Base" shotgun would turn into more of an Assault Like shotgun with much more range, more of a controlled spread (enough to keep a hallway clear) reduced damage, same amount of rounds until reload.
The Breach Shotgun would get 2 more rounds until reload and more spread.

Imo 2 shots is fine.. Just make the reload speed like normal shotguns... Currently it's like it's smashing in 4 rounds, that's what the animation looks like.. Then it's all about timing..

Just a few few tweaks and we've got a new viable weapon, ala breach SMG.
Definitely need to reduce reload time and increase clip size. That's it I think. It already has the better accuracy (and slightly more range?)

I think that buffing the damage could simply create an ohk fotm nightmare if you are not careful.

Just look at the TF2 shotgun vs F.A.N.
TF2 scattergun: 6 shots @ 0.64s delay, with 0.76s+0.56s reloading
TF2 FAN: 2 shots @ 0.4267s delay, with 1.64s reload. +20% more pellets with higher spread, -10% damage per pellet.
The guns play very differently; the FAN is for hit and run assassinations at short range, while the scattergun a generalist weapon that copes with medium-range scrimmages where a tougher enemy is whittled down over two or three shots where committing to cqc is not wise.
This role split can easily be applied to the breach shotgun.

It really just needs a damage buff. I fell in love with this gun in Chrome, but back then, suits generally had a lot less health. A 10 to 15% buff to the damage would probably fix the gun, though you're never likely to see a lot of people using this weapon as the low ammo count means you can't physically go through a crowd of guys and kill everyone with minimal effort.
Ugh... now I want to try shotguns again...

Once upon time I cared about the shotty and the breach was my favourite...
To bad I never could get the mouse settings the way I wanted them, which lead me to abandon my old scoutly ways...
Now I just run whichever seems to be working for me (for whichever reason). |

I just started using it before the last event after hearing complains about it. It's actually a pretty good weapon once you know how to use it. If the ROF or clip size if changed the damage needs to be reduced IMO. It may also have a couple bugs.
For anyone having difficulty using it the way it is now the issue I had was that I had level 0 Rapid Reload. With level 5 the reload time drops to about 1.1 seconds (so per round this is less than a regular shotgun with rapid reload 0). Delay between shots is 1 second. Also know when to switch to an SMG. 1 hit does a ton of damage so if you don't kill them right off the bat your sidearm can real quick.
One important thing I noticed is that you can stop the reload process part way and shoot. The HUD don't tell you when you have 1 bullet ready to go but it's possible per my testing if you time it. I think this is a bug.
1 hit at close range kills almost any dropsuit that isn't a heavy, including a lot of proto assault suits (but not heavily armor tanked ones). 2 shots at close range kills most heavies. I mostly use the breach in close quarters when I notice that there are heavies without logis. If you're a little further away from your target it's basically like a normal shotgun with a lower ROF and smaller clip. You can't spray and prey. You need to connect your shots.
If you equip this to a commando I'm guessing it would be pretty useful. You can drop the reload time to be less than then the ROF plus boost the damage. Only downside is that it's a heavy dropsuit so you wont be ninja-ing up to people which is usually the point to a shotgun. But this could be seen as a bug possibly. Shot, reload, shot would be faster than shooting twice.
Basically I love this weapon because when I have a scout with a breach shotgun and remote explosives there is no single unit on the battle field I need to run from (just squads or tank brigades). I can take down individual tanks, scouts, heavies, assault. Anything. Perfect assassin. |

I'm sure someone has brought this up before, all the shot guns have less ammo than their descriptions imply. Why is that? Is it done on purpose, if so why not update the description? Rattati, since you're keeping an eye on SG proposals, can you take a look at it? Either update the description or fix the ammo clip size on the SG's.
From memory(I only know these two):
CGR: Description: 34 magazine Actual: 24 magazine
K5: Description: 18 magazine Actual: 13 magazine
Even with the ammo skill at 2 or 3, it only adds about 1 or 2 bullets. I was a bit mad when I noticed after I had sunk some SP into the ammo skill. (._. ) Mine is at ammo skill Lv.2, does anyone have theirs at a higher level? Is there a major difference?

My slower internet and old 80G fat boy PS3 makes it very hard to use shot gun due to lag and low frame rates at times but when all is running smooth the breach SG is a beast just until you face multiple enemies....

In my opinion the Breach feels like it's attempting to replicate a slug firing shotgun, so that's what I think it should ultimately become.
No Spread - A single fist sized projectile should expelled from the barrel High Damage - The 2 shot clip should take out MOST soft targets (1400 dmg, 700 per shot) Longer Reload - 5 second reload due to erranoues amont of cooling the shotgun requires Longer Ramge - 10m Optimal 15m Effective

Literally man it just needs like another round or two in the mag. Gather any opinions you can of course but I feel that a sweet spot for an initial 'pass' would be add +1 to the magazine / drum and a bit of extra damage, or add +2 to the magazine / drum and no extra damage.
